itchy boots (Noraly) please see this important message to you.

Ойын-сауық

This video is made for all travelers getting involved with the corrupt road police. And my proposal is recommended by many governments in Africa. For example in Mozambique there is a group called DriveMoz on Facebook and no matter what kind of problem you have with the police, you report to this organization with the location where you are and the problem you have. Then the help comes immediately to you.

Good advice. It's should be remembered that the cultures there are tight knit and they all know each other. They have phones and radios. So if you are tagged as a "payer", the nightmare will never end. Better to stand your ground the first time, and the next time will be much easier. They will not want to waste time on you. My advice from many years of living there.

Great advice, but you have to consider the gender & physical dynamics, as an older white male this might work but sometimes you have to consider the situation for your safety, and its safer to just pay and avoid further conflict! Reckon Itchy weighed up the situation and acted accordingly and is now able to tell her story and certain that officials will be livid that this has happened!

That's what it's all about, there are a lot of fake police officers and when you've been treated like Noraly, you know that you won't hand over your papers. You insist on driving to the next police station, then the crooks will let you go. I am not blaming Noraly for that, i understand her situation. I want to start a conversation about that problem. Its about the next travelers and the next one. It can not go on like that, we have to be strong and stick together. When you pay, corruption will grow!!!

I understand that she is passionate about what she does, but hopes that she understands that there is a split occuring in humanity. One side is getting more angelic every day and another side getting more horrible every day. I would be more sellective of the places to visit, establish very strong social, economical, political investigative filters and grape-vine impressions of locals on general safety. It might also be a good idea to switch to a team format and not always be alone out there. Besides this I pray for her and wish her well. What a gentle soul this lady is!

I agree she is a wonderful role model and very skilled and courageous young woman. My point is that in a country like Liberia where police are often corrupt and she is frequently in very remote places a young woman is at risk when confronting corrupt police. I would suggest that she pay, get to a safe place and then file complaints or contact senior police officers. Like you i watch all of her videos and only hope she stays safe.

That is by no means a reason to give up on the plan. She won't give up on her plan to travel through Africa because of this. Noraly is made to do so, she is and has the strength and energy to handle difficult situations. She has learned to handle even the most difficult situations. Based on her experiences, she will certainly take certain measures that will not put her in unnecessary danger. I'm sure she can do it without a male companion. @@RoadPirateReno impossible to not hand over papers. You get asked at border's, check points, stopped on road and even some hotels up to 10 times in one country. Its common knowledge that this is a practice that exists in most poor countries so is ignored by officials even if you make a complaint. The problem with going to the next police station is that the captain/officer in charge is likely to be in on the graft as well. After all, he has to see and work with his two cops every day. While you'll be gone tomorrow, forever. Every country, every situation is different. Once you're off the main road, you're at their mercy. Better to pay a few bucks (especially if you can afford it) than to end up "disappeared". I had to do that once, long ago. My fault for letting myself get lured off the main thoroughfare. You learn as you travel. Meanwhile, nothing stops any of Noraly's subscribers from writing their local relevant embassy and reporting such incidents. The last thing such governments want is bad publicity for their tourism industry. I once spent twenty minutes in a tiny, un-airconditioned office in Nagpur, India, while the local police captain accused me of transporting drugs. I smiled, joked with him, understood he was just doing his job (no, I didn't have any drugs), and he made sure I made my flight. Gender also plays into these confrontations.
