No problem with single track. The span of single track is short. It would be more costly to lay the double Tunnel and track. Timing of trains is not the tension because the traffic density will not be much.
Main reason of single track at such a great hight and in heavy wind pressure is only to keep the bridge in iqilibrium by keeping the load in centre of the width only. Load will not distribute equally when there is only one train and next track is without train at a time.

The more bridge is widely constructed , the more it is prone to get dammaged at the altitude of 359 metres, single track is in the middle of the bridge which allows the weight of the train carried evenly.jaihind.
The single track has been constructed because of the single tunnels, constructed in both ends of the Chinab bridge. The double tracks will be required double tunnels too, which is sufficient in accordance with the railway traffic flow in the present time.

Most freight trains are container trains. each weighting 40-80 tons. Note that the foundations of the single arch bridge have been constructed in a landslide/earthquake prone himalayan slope. The length of the bridge is 1.3 km with the arch about 720 metres. The load of a freight train may exceed 7000 tons once it is on the bridge. possibly bridge cannot handle load of 2 trains simultaneously.

Very simple answer. It is called incremental approach. Indian railways has done this level of work for the first time. They need the performance data of the bridge. Slowly as traffic increases it is possible to go from one track to two tracks but if they start with two tracks and there is some complications then there is no going back. It will be a lost project.

बहुत अच्छी और सही जानकारी देने के लिए धन्यवाद । मेरे हिसाब से वैज्ञानिक दृष्टिकोण से भी इतनी ऊंचाई पर किसी एक पुल पर डबल ट्रैक बिछाना सही नहीं है । पुल का भार संतुलन बनाए रखने के लिए रेलवे लाईन को पुल के बिल्कुल मध्य में ही बिछाया जा सकता है क्योंकि बहुत कम ट्रैफिक होने की वजह से डबल ट्रैक पर एक ही समय में आमने-सामने समानांतर रेलगाड़ी का चलने की तो कोई संभावना नहीं है और सिर्फ एक लाईन पर ही ट्रैफिक चलने की वजह से पुल पर भार संतुलन की समस्या पैदा होने से पुल और रेलगाड़ियों के साथ साथ यात्रियों की सुरक्षा भी खतरे में पड़ जाएगी । इन कारणों से इतने ऊंचे सिंगल पुल से डबल ट्रैक बिछाना संभव नहीं होगा । हां, समयानुसार डबल ट्रैक की जरूरत पड़ने पर इस पुल के समानांतर नया पुल बनाकर नया ट्रैक बिछाया जा सकता है ।

By common sense.... the very first point is..... Demand of 2nd AC should be 100% or more than 100 % .
Plain aur pahadi area mein bahut farak hota hai. Double line banane mein double se bhi jyada kharcha aa sakta hai.pehle single line ko operation mein aane doe,double line bhi ban jayegi.

As per technical specifications, Chenab Railway Bridge is designed for dual carriageway, but they have installed single line in the center and done blast proofing on either side. The entire stretch from Katra to Banihal is single track. That is what I could understand from various sources online.

Soon we will need a to build another track to copup with the demand ... why dont we setup 2 rail track in single construction time ? We we will need it later on .

@@amangoel3828 valid point, but to achieve that, the terrain seems to be difficult with loose soil conditions, landslides, methane gas formation, and the project cost may go up magnanimously. Viability is the key issue, since future rail traffic may not be that busy compared to other regions. Modern signalling method also ensures fast movement of rolling stock. Konkan Railway has busy traffic and so has the Mangaluru Hassan Railway. Yet the lines are single.

Please let me know as to why only Gatimaan Express and recently introduced Bhopal Vande Bharat are allowed to run at 160 kmph on New Delhi-Mathura-Agra Cantt section whereas other premium trains like Mumbai Rajdhani, AK Rajdhani, South bound Rajdhanis and some other fully AC trains are allowed only 130 kmph despite fit rolling stock.

@@sanjaybhatnagar5944 I googled and found this answer on quora 👇 Why Rajdhani doesn't make 160kmph on its run? Rajdhani express uses any WAP7 locomotive which has top speed of 140kmph. Gatimaan express uses WAP5 30007/30014/30020 locomotive which has top speed of 160kmph. These three WAP5 has installed TPWS (Train Protection and Warning System) in it which allow Gatimaan to run at 160kmph. Rest are restricted to 150kmph. Now Why Rajdhani doesn't use these WAP5 to make 160kmph? There are only 3 WAP5 which has installed TFWS system. Is there anything about coaches? Yes. Gatimaan has 12 coaches which allow it to make 160kmph while Rajdhani have 18 to 20 coaches. Then Why don't Rajdhani uses WAP5 to make at least 150kmph? Well All Rajdhani passing through that Delhi - Agra section are for long distance. While Gatimaan is busy covering section of 403km only, Rajdhani covers more than 1000km. So they has to deal with so many speed restrictions, terrain, etc. And WAP5 can't handle terrain and is very bad for accelerating 18 to 20 coaches at 130kmph after speed restrictions. (This is the reason why WR trying push pull system for 09003 Special Rajdhani to run at 160kmph) Agreed. Rajdhani can't use WAP5 and hit 150kmph. But still Why Rajdhani doesn't hit at least 140kmph with WAP7? Hitting 140kmph isn't that easy. WAP7 with Mumbai Rajdhani used to do it. But due to wheel slipping issue the speed was reduced to 130kmph. So it doesn't even hit 140kmph. But now again 22221/2 CSMT Rajdhani will be hitting 140kmph.

Because at that time trains had Vaccum Brakes which apply when the pressure is increased so cutting the brake pipe resulted in the failure of brakes, however now trains have air brakes which apply on reducing the air pressure.

कोरोना काल के समय भारतीय रेलवे जो ट्रैनों को स्पेशल ट्रेन बना कर चलाई थी , अब भी वो ट्रेन बहुत जगहों पर स्पेशल बन कर चला रही है और पैसेंजर ट्रेन के बदले एक्सप्रेस का किराया ले रही है । ऐसा क्यों कर रही है रेलवे??
इस ब्रिज का वर्टिकल balance तो बहोत safe लगता है but horizontal balance कमजोर लगता है, उम्मिद करते है ई से काबी ल इंजिनिअ रो ने नियोजीत किया होगा
प्रोजेक्ट की लागत डुबल नहीं होतीं, 30% बड़ती बस जो भविस्य में 70%-100% तक जायेगी सुरक्षा हेतु भी इसका अल्टर्नेt होना चाहिए भविष्य में आर्मी किसी भी हालत में बॉर्डर पर पहले 12 घँटे में पहुँच जरूरी
भविष्य में POK भी आयेगा, तो congestion ज्यादा ही होगा, उसको भी consider करना चाइए था

Konkan railways itself have single tracks.
उदाहरण के लिए पश्चिम रेलवे का मुंबई से अहमदाबाद खंड समतल है। उस रूट पर साधारण डबल डेकर पैसेंजर ट्रेन चलाना जरूरी है.
