Having lived for a while in both countries and eaten from different regions, I prefer Italian food because it is fresher and lighter and because the ingredients are often local and not over complicated you get a better depth of flavour.

Good taste.

I'm French and I don't wanna choose!!! We have a lot of excellent things here in France, cheese, boeuf bourguignon, crêpes, gratin dauphinois, magret de canard, foie gras, moules farcies, dinde aux marrons, blanquette de veau, ratatouille, soupe de poisson à la rouille... We cook a lot with olive oil as well, especially in the south of France (where I live). But come on, italian food is excellent too! I've already been in Italy, Roma, and everything was good! Risotto, pasta (best in the world!), pizza, tiramisu, gelato. I refuse to choose! And we're friends, we're neighbours, we don't fight^^

I totally agree: both countries have fantastic recipes, different from each other, but both delicious. Honestly I find it stupid to have a fight about this, considering that our personal taste is "built" during the first years of our lives, so for example the reason why an Italian finds Italian food the best is simply that he/she is used to specific flavors that are common in the Italian recipes. Personally, as a northern Italian, I like the northern Italian and the French cuisine more than the southern Italian one, and I don't give a s**t about the criticism that I receive when I say this.

Quando viaggio in Francia, mangio spesso in un ristorante italiano. Mi piace particolarmente il cibo italiano per la sua semplicità e leggerezza, in più lo trovo onesto e senza pretese inutili. Spesso cucino anche cibo italiano a casa :-). Insomma, sono d'accordo con tutti gli italiani che sono così felici della loro cucina!

io non mangerei cucina italiana fuori dell'italia mai più. Primo perchè mi piace provare cucine straniere poi perchè nel migliore dei casi cucino parecchio meglio io. In francia ho mangiato benisssimo quasi ovunque.. ogni due giorni però mi fermo e mangio pane e insalata per riprendermi. Quello che mi ammazza in francia è il costo del vino in ristorante.. lo trovo contro i diritti dell'uomo :)

A nice video but one very glaring mistake: Raclette is NOT French, it is Swiss. It is from the French speaking part of Switzerland, but bad form to assign it to the cuisine of our neighbors to the west.

non voglio parlare bene della cucina italiana... dico soltanto che non si può neppure lontanamente confrontare con quella francese!!! italia a parte credo che esistano cucine migliori e più interessanti di quella francese: in spagna ad esempio il cibo è nettamente migliore che in francia con una cucina assai più confrontabile con la nostra... in francia ci sono vissuto e non ho mai dico MAI mangiato decentemente!!

Preferisco il cibo italiano a il cibo francese. In America we have Italian food everywhere. NY and surrounding areas have by far the most Italians although there are probably a lot in every big city. But, you can go to even small towns throughout America and find pizzerias and Italian restaurants. Still, it is best in NY (trust me). In my whole life I have never met anyone who doesn't like or love Italian food. I have met only one person who even knows someone they claim doesn't like Italian food. And I know a few years ago an international poll found Italian food by far the world's favorite. There was never a great French migration here and where you can find it - only in very populated areas, it is usually much more expensive and the restaurants are fancier. Personally, I like almost all foods, but I prefer Italian. I have been lucky to get to Europe some, Italy and Greece longer than anywhere else. But, my favorite local cuisine so far is Corsican, a mix between Italian and French.

In all latin countries food is traditionally a value , the variety of italian dishes is like the variety of french cheese. Unbeatable. Even the vocabulary for dishes is incredibly rich in both countries. We both have a fantastic old tradition . France dominated the upper class world for centuries in cooking and now Italy is monopolising the world of common everyday s food.

Katie: next time you speak French in one of your clips, please put a warning up front. My French Canadian heart almost melted. Besides, I have been six times in Italy, and six times in France. Both extraordinary cuisine, though quite different. I feel the French like to explore a bit more and they are a bit better with meat, but Italians are so much better at cooking with vegetables. If I were vegetarian, I would stick to Italy. If I have to spend the rest of my life eating just one or the other, I would lean towards italian food.

You have to taste our ''hidden'' meat dishes. A lot of italian recipes are never been internationally known because our immigration has been profoundly localized in southern italy and Venetian region. I suggest you to explore these gems: Neapolitan ''genovese'' sauce, sicilian braciole [from Messina], piedmontese brasato, venetian stracotto d'asina, sardinian porceddu, calabrian nduja and lombard casseula.

No, one the best steaks is found in Italy, Bistecca Fiorentina ? The French are very good with sauces and meat. In Italy, they don't care for sauces that just make the meal heavier.

The guy at 7:14 is awesome. He actually has more experience with French food. It seems like many Italians haven't even tried French food, so they can't exactly speak on it. There doesn't seem to be many French restaurants in Italy, although many Italian chefs might use french techniques. They should open up more French restaurants in Italy and honestly all over the world, seems like many have forgot how good it is and only know it by reputation or by technique. I'm just an American guy, so this is just my opinion, but definitely try some galletes(so many styles), crepes, Tarte flambée(so tasty), Jambon-beurre, Cacasse à cul nu, Quiche, Bœuf bourguignon, Coq au vin, Gougère, Oeufs en meurette, Gratin dauphinois, Soupe à l'oignon/French onion soup, Tartiflette, Gratin de crozets savoyard, Aligot, Truffade, Fouace, Soupe au fromage, Cassoulet, Bourride, Brandade, Bouillabaisse, Moules à la crème Normande, Matelote, Pompe à l'huile, Ratatouille, Garbure, Confit de canard, Pôchouse, Far Breton, Kig ha farz, Poulet à la bretonne, Kouign amann, Flaugnarde, Pâté aux pommes de terre, Tourtous aux rillettes d'oie, Teurgoule, Tarte Normande, Soufflé, Saint Honoré, Pain perdu, Mille-feuilles, Éclair, Dacquoise(amazing dessert), Tarte Tatin, etc. There is so much good French food. I'm french and genetically half Italian. I have traveled a lot and I would say Italian food is very good but French food is divine. There is no equivalent to bœuf bourguignon or coque au vin.

like to choose between star wars and star trek .. why should I choose? I get both.. I'd say close but different.. For cuisine we could compare same receipt but there are few comparable. And also how can compare Italian cuisine when the same receipt take 30 differen shapes around italy itself? there's pizza Napoletana, romana, siciliana etc.. Italian cheese? there are more then 400 d.o.p. .. can't even compare north with south. Wines? the same. Maybe on the top priced ones france have higer numbers but generally italian ones have much better quality/price rate so .. baahhh I'm happy to have the opportunity to have both ones and don't feel the need to measure things that can't be compared.

Having traveled extensively in both countries, the Italians here are right that French food is heavier (more butter/cream, more sauce) but they are wrong about the relative lack of diversity or regional particularity. French cuisine is just as regional as Italy's. In the end, I prefer Italian food, but French food does fit its (cooler, damp) climate/environment.

As an American living in a metropolitan area, I find this a very interesting video. On a weekly basis we eat a range of foods - American, Italian, French, Mexican, Thai, Chinese and many more.

Pizza and Pasta are an Italian national treasures fill out with love and passion while French Cuisine is very adventurous full of pride and flavor. To defend my church haha, i have to say that French cuisine is very diverse too ;) And has a lot of varieties between regions! But yes French food is less exported than Italian one (wich can be partly explained by Italian immigrations in America, France too etc). Also there is big differences between family food and restaurant food in France (i'm talking about good restaurants, not bistrots, brasseries etc) If you want to know why French food has something very special and unique you need to eat in a gastronomic restaurant in France, you will not regret if you are food lovers! My favorite meal in Italia is Osso bucco, wonderful! Honestly i like both Italian and French cuisine

Food is not a question of a unity , it is a question of products, climate etc From Bretagne to Provence you can t imagine it is the same country. I will not write here all the différent meal (and it is not Always butter) because even me (passionated by food and French) didn t try all the meal, all the cheese, all the desserts and all the wine France produces. And I m not saying Italian cuisine is not diverse. From my perception i would have said Italian one is less diverse for one reason: I know much better French one. So sometimes when you don t know it is better not to talk ;) sans rancunes, mes amitiés !

@@jermr8311 The reason the Italians in the video think that French cuisine is less diverse is that they don't know it (as they themselves admit). I'm not sure how you can "measure" diversity; I'd say both cuisines are very regional. I'd also say that these Italians omit the fact that northern Italian cuisine is also butter-based and rich. Just think of sformati or the bonet.

Nel sud della Francia in Provenza in particolare si usa 'olio.

i am italian and i think that the France is surely better for the haute cuisine. Infact the best chef are french. French cuisine is very elaborated, italian food for me is more simple

Ho accompagnato turisti per molti anni in Europa, poi in Nord e Sud America in viaggi semi-organizzati. I turisti avevano alcuni giorni liberi per loro. Una cosa che mi ha sempre sorpreso è che la maggior parte degli italiani chiedeva sempre dove trovare un buon ristorante italiano. Le altre persone di solito volevano provare qualcosa di nuovo, ma non gli italiani. Per quanto dicessi loro che probabilmente non sarebbe stato come in Italia, i ristoranti adattano la loro specialità al gusto del paese, e che c'erano ristoranti molto migliori per lo stesso prezzo, non cambiavano idea e di solito tornavano delusi. Nella mia esperienza, la gente è tornata più soddisfatta dai ristoranti francesi che da quelli italiani. Ma di nuovo, questo è fuori dall'Italia e dalla Francia.

Arguably the two best food in the world. The only difference i can take is that meanwhile the French elaborate so much their ingredients to decompose and trasmute their flavours, the Italians instead tend to not alterate the ingredients flavours and focusing more to master the food flavours matching, over the French.

Conosco la cucina francese, anche un po' quella regionale francese. Sono d'accordo con quasi tutti i commenti che segnalano le differenze e anche le complementarietà. Se devo dare un giudizio netto e semplificato direi questo: italiani molto forti sui primi piatti come pasta e risotti, francesi molto forti sui secondi a base di carne. Italiani bravi coi dolci ma non al livello dei francesi. Sui formaggi vedo un leggero vantaggio degli italiani per la varietà dei sapori, sui vini un leggero vantaggio dei francesi (ma solo sui vini rossi). Sul pesce l'Italia è troppo più forte della Francia. Dunque riassumendo: antipasti italiani, primo piatto italiano carne francese con un vino rosso francese. Se pesce, italiano con un vino bianco Italiano e alla fine un dolce francese. :)

due cose totalmente incomparabili: cucina con mal di stomaco!!

Quando è preparato bene il cibo francese è ottimo, senza contare che la cucina italiana è stata nei secoli pesantemente condizionata da quella francese. Soprattutto al nord, in Piemonte, dove molti piatti sono di origine francese o reinterpretazioni di piatti francesi. Su quale piaccia di più...forse bisognerebbe chiedere a chi non è né italiano né francese.

Penso che in questo momento direi che preferisco la cucina italiana a quella francese, anche se a dire il vero la mia preferenza è prima la cucina greca (anche se non è famosa come le altre, per i miei gusti è più attraente), poi quella italiana, e poi quella francesa, anche se bisogna riconoscere che quando si tratta di dessert e dolci, la Francia ha un livello eccezionale. E fuori concorso, la cucina spagnola. Visto che ognuno si vanta della propria cucina, farò un po' di pubblicità per la nostra in Spagna 😅. Per me non c'è niente come la tortilla, il gazpacho, il salmorejo, le acciughe sott'aceto, i churros al cioccolato, i polvorones e mantecados a Natale, la paella, i gamberi all'aglio... mmm... mi viene fame 😃😋. Suppongo che, in generale, ci piacciano i piatti che abbiamo mangiato per tutta la vita.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 bravissimo!!! non so perché ci ostiniamo a mettere a confronto la cucina francese e quella italiana che sono radicalmente diverse. credo che la cucina spagnola è nettamente migliore di quella francese e assai più paragonabile con quella italiana!!! in francia ci sono vissuto e non ho mai mangiato decentemente. i dolci li fanno meglio loro dici? basta andare a napoli o in sicilia e vedi chi sa fare pasticceria!!

In molti più che i piatti francesi (nati dalla preparazione delle materie prime), citano le materie prime stesse, tipo i formaggi, il foie gras, lo champagne ecc.. In generale la famosa e rinomata cucina francese e soprattutto una cucina di ristorazione, molto elaborata e quindi poco accessibile anche perché spesso per gustarla bisogna andare in ristoranti dove ti spennano e ti lasciano a pancia vuota. Il grande successo della cucina italiana è dato dal fatto che è di certo più "semplice", conviviale e più facilmente riproducibile a casa.

It's funny how much this same stereotype comes up every time, you need to try the local cuisines and get away from the fancy stuff that's often not that special (especially in Paris) most french dishes are peasant foods

Non mi è mai piaciuta questa domanda, la Francia è un grande paese dal punto di vista culinario e l'Italia pure.

Adoro il modo francese di preparare la carne. Sono cresciuta con la coq au vin. Anche i dolci francesi sono fantastici.. i croissant... Però, per tutto il resto ... la pasta, la pizza, il risotto... vincerà l'Italia, per me! Però è mica una competizione.

difatti non c'è proprio paragone e confronto!!! poi non capisco perché ostinarci a mettere a confronto la cucina italiana e quella francese. penso che ad esempio in spagna il cibo sia nettamente migliore che in francia e assai più confrontabile con quello italiano

Sono felice che siano state menzionate le crepe (dalla mia regione). 😋😉

Che si chiamano crespelle e sono state esportate in francia grazie a Papa Gelasio nel V sec. Che sfamò I pellegrini appunto francesi al loro arrivo a Roma..

Here in Australia there are heaps of Italian restaurants. I have no idea if French ones exist? I do know of 1 French bakery and a cafe where the owner went to France to learn how to make croissants. I live on the Gold Coast. Maybe in our cities there maybe one or two however Italian food is far more popular in Australia.

Ho anche difficoltà a definire una cucina nazionale. L’Italia ha il vantaggio di avere piatti emblematici, facili da mangiare e facilmente esportabili, come la pizza, la pasta e il risotto. Non esiste un vero equivalente di questi piatti in Francia (ma, a parte questi piatti e pochi altri, non credo che si sappia molto della cucina italiana in Francia. Ad esempio, ho letto che c'erano piatti italiani con insolite verdure e frattaglie, che mi piacerebbe moltissimo ma non ho mai avuto modo di assaggiare). Esistono almeno due tradizioni culinarie in Francia: la cucina cosiddetta “locale”, che tradizionalmente si tramanda all'interno delle famiglie, con prodotti locali e spesso poco costosi, e la cucina gourmet, molto elaborata, con salse e prodotti ricercati. Spesso è proprio questa seconda cucina ad essere conosciuta in tutto il mondo, ma in realtà è poco consumata in Francia.

C'è anche da dire che in Francia la gente mangia molto raramente la cucina francese nel vero senso del termine, i giovani soprattutto tendono a mangiare molto più spesso kebab, "tacos" rivisitati che di tacos hanno ben poco, "sushi" che di sushi ha ben poco (come in Italia tra l'altro), pizza spesso all'americana, pasta carbonara non molto ortodossa, varie cucine asiatiche, molto spesso vanno nelle catene di fast food...questa tendenza sta arrivando anche in Italia, ma comunque direi che la maggior parte degli italiani mangia cucina italiana almeno una volta al giorno, lo stesso non si può dire dei francesi a mio avviso

French cuisine refined and complex, whilst Italian about simplicity. I feel like I would best enjoy spaghetti a la frutti di mare and a glass of a good Calvarino whilst having a view on the Capri marina in summer And I feel like I would best enjoy pot-au-feu while sipping on some fine red Burgundy in a cozy, warm restaurant, having a view on the Eiffel Tower on a windy, autumn afternoon. I love food in general and I love both cuisines. I feel like both have Their special place in my heart, and, being so different, each suits me best depending on the circumstances.

I'm french, and with this vidéo i see that italian dont know french food in fact ! Actually i think less than 3% of french people who eat escargot. And crêpe are breton. It's good but it's 0.05% of the french food maybe, cause french Cook is very diverse! Butter is uses in the North only. French food is really the best in the World, but italian food is so good 👍👍

Surprised to hear that this selection of Italians haven't had much French food. I think here in Asia (Hong Kong at least) we have access to way more French cuisine than Italians do in Italy (& also a lot more Italian options in HK than say, anywhere in France). I love French wines, cheeses & their sublime bread & pastries, but the average Italian definitely eats better & healthier than the average French person. Would definitely pick Italian over French as I cannot live without noodles & rice LOL.

The French exercise great rigor in their food preparation. Though it is based on tradition they aren't afraid to experiment with flavors and surprise you so it is more modern and evolving than Italian food, which is firmly fixed in tradition. That's what makes Italian food so good, its simplicity. Overall, though, French food is much more varied and involves more input....they definitely win for desserts, especially cakes (though tiramisu is one of the greatest inventions of all time!)

La cultura culinaria francese in Sicilia ha lasciato in eredità la brioche che noi chiamiamo brioscia la quale viene di solito farcita con il gelato. Altro piatto il gateau meglio conosciuto come gattò, di origine francese, ma si prepara nel sud Italia.

Anche il profiterole è un dolce molto diffuso in Sicilia e fino a qualche tempo fa era abbastanza normale cucinare le lumache. Credo che nel video si sarebbe dovuta fare una menzione di questa eredità francese nella cucina siciliana.

Preferisco il cibo italiano come pasta al sugo pomodoro. Ma mi piace anche il cibo francese supratutto i formaggie come brie e camembert.

Nella mia esperienza non c'è molta scelta in Italia, ovviamente in un senso globale. Qua in Australia posso mangiare cibo da ogni paese... ma forse questa è la cosa che rende l'Italia così speciale. *Dai ragazzi, basta con le zone con Bosco Verticale, Eataly e Feltrinelli (quella di Herzog e de Meuron). Milano è molto più grande 😜

The “best” is a difficult concept to define. If we refere to the pure beauty, to a perfect shape, the language is ITALIAN. If we refer to a sweet and melodic language that may be FRENCH.

Per carità !!! Come si osa paragonare la cucina italiana alla cucina francese ?!? Lool per cortezia !

Mio marito è francese, andiamo spesso in francia, anche in regioni diverse. La cucina francese e quella italiana, da quanto ho colto, partono da due assunti diversi: in francia cucinare significa trasformare il cibo, rielaborarlo fino a trasfugurarlo. In italia invece cucinare è accostare, accoppiare, far esaltare i singoli sapori. In francia si fa tantissima carne, e tantissimi latticini. Cose che io non amo. Per le verdure siamo assolutamente migliori quibin Italia. Forse abbiamo un pareggio sui piatti di mare: dall'oceano al mediterraneo, i crudi e le zuppe di pesce e crostacei sono ottime. Ma anche da noi tra cozze, anguilla, branzino e zuppe si mangia benissimo. Ho detto! Comunque io preferisco la cucina giapponese.

Just a note: when you compare two things (in this video: cuisine), one does NOT use the word "best" (a superlative adjective) but "better" (a comparative adjective). So you really should edit the title of this video: "Which one is better?" You may use "best" when you compare three or more cuisines. Secondo me, la cucina italiana e meglio; ma mi piace anche la cucina francese, particularmente quella della regione meridionale di Francia (Provence) e le isole (Corsica)... Amo i vini forti italiani e francesi anche...

C'è una domanda difficile. Amo ratatouille - infatto è il mio cibo preferito. Ma amo anche il cibo italiano come la pizza, pasta con sugo o melanzane marinate. Hm ...🤔

difatti la ratatouille esiste con nomi diversi nella cucina italiana: spezzatino di magro; caponata; antipasto mediterraneo; cianfotta... il solito plagio francese!!! d'altronde basta guardare il territorio italiano e quello francese... dove crescono le melanzane??!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Mi piace molto il cibo francese come quiche, escargot, cassoulet, bouillabaisse (zuppa di frutti di mare), patate al forno con crema di erbe, e lo stufato di montone, per esempio.
