Unused / unissued material - no paperwork - dates unclear or unknown. 1936?
Italian voiceover.
Ethiopia / Abyssinia.
Italian troops cross large Ethiopian plain. They are mainly native troops in Italian uniform. They are travelling in lorries. Travel shot from a lorry showing Ethiopian people around large Red Cross flag. Some locals clap as Italian vehicles go past. They now are entering a more built up are - presumably Addis Ababa. People are out in the streets to see the troops arrive. Italian troops relax outside a building. Shots of damage caused to buildings in the fighting to take the city. Dead bodies lie on a street corner. More shots of destruction. Shots of Addis Ababa railway station. Man with dog walks amongst rubble. Train arrives at station. Italian dignitaries arrive. More shots of damage to buildings. Family with furniture piled outside home. More shots of troops coming into city and people leaving.
N.B. Italian troops entered Addis under the command of Marshal Pietro Badoglio in May 1936.

Ethiopia looks like a very beautiful and fertile nation with much economic potential. It’s hard to believe that it’s had so many famine’s. And it’s interesting to see that there’s so many Eritrean or Somali Askari’s among these troops and that many Ethiopians don’t seem too upset, maybe Haile Selassie wasn’t so popular among his own people?

In my opinion, ww2 started in Ethiopia not in Poland as we're led to believe because of Hitler. Ethiopian conflict ended on Febuary 1937 after the Spanish civil war began in July 1936. Then before the spanish civil war ended in April 1939, the sino Japanese war began in the far east in July 1937 till September 1945. Then there was the Italian Albanian conflict a few days later in April. After a period of almost 5 months Nazi Germany reignited the European theatre by attacking Poland.

After declaring war on the Allies, in June 1940,, Italy attempted to invade British Sudan & Egypt..... It went badly for them. The RAF destroyed the entire Italian air force in Abyssinia, whilst it was still on the ground, the morning after Italy declared war. The airstrike lasted 5 hours, involved over 100 RAF aircraft and ended with the British having total control of the sky over Abyssinia & Sudan.

1922 Fascism invented by Mussolini in Italy, and H!tler studied it, and began to copy it. 1931 Japan land - grabs northeast China (that is, Manchuria) without penalty from the League of Nations (other than a pathetic letter of reprimand). And so Mussolini was emboldened to land - grab Abissynia (Ethiopia) in 1935. The League of Nations attempted an oil embargo against Italy, but Mussolini circumvented the embargo by buying oil from U.S.A. (not a member of the League of Nations). And H!tler studied it. And so H!tler was emboldened to violate peace treaty [that is, occupy the no - military - zone (the Rhineland)] with German military (1937). The League of Nations did absolutely nothing about it. Also in 1937, Japan begins a land - grab of central east China. And the League of Nations did nothing about it. And H!tler studied it. In 1938 H!tler began referring to British prime minister, and French prime minister as "worms". Question: Who is the head of the League of Nations Answer: The U.K., and France. In exchange for a promise of no further land grabs, H!tler land - grabs northern portion of Czechoslovakia (the Sudeten Land,) in October 1938 using intimidation of German military strength. March 1939, the German military occupied the rest of Czechoslovakia. Again, the League of Nations does nothing. 1 September 1939, H!tler begins to grab Poland. 3 September 1939, WW2 in Europe began. H!tler did not expect the worms to declare war against him. And the President of the U.S.A. publicly, like a bigger worm, declares that the U.S.A. was neutral. So I would say WW2 began in 1931.

I think because, before italians arrived, Ethiopia was an absolute monarchy which was based on a feudal model of society and where slavery was still a legal practice. Moreover, most of the population lived in total misery and many inhabitants were not even Ethiopians but they were peoples that Ethiopia subjected with bloody war between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

Finally, I believe that at that time there was not even a real "Ethiopian national identity" and for most of the population it was simply a matter of passing from one regime to another... but at least the new "rulers" promised peace, prosperity and modernity (therefore they were welcomed)

@@alberto_sosso_4784 That's not true and nothing more than false Fascist Italian propaganda used to justify barbarically killing off millions of Ethiopian patriots, women and children and using chemical warfare to occupy Ethiopia through brute force. This propaganda was also used to undermine Ethiopian national identity and pit Ethiopians against each other which never worked. During the Battle of Adwa (1986), Ethiopians from various ethnic groups saw the Italians as a common enemy and fought together as one to fight off the Italian invaders and was as a result of this unity that maintained Ethiopia's independence during European colonialism. The Italians later realized that the information that they had received about tribal tensions was grossly exaggerated. Even during the Second-Italo Ethiopian war, the Ethiopian Black Lions was a multi-ethnic patriotic resistance group that was formed during Italian occupation of Ethiopia to defeat the Italian aggressors but were almost all killed by Fascist Italian soldiers during the occupation and the Ethiopian Arbegnoch (Patriots) which was also a multi-ethnic patriotic resistance group defeated the Italians in less than 5 years.

Haile Selassie was not only loved by his people but African countries around the world (hence why many African countries adopting the colors of green, yellow and red to symbolize freedom and independence from their former colonizers). He is also loved by the British, and receives sympathy from around the world. Yet Mussolini, died like a coward in his own country hanged and killed by his own people for his brutality.
