I like all Italian bikes and things cycling. I just bought a 2012 Masi Alare road bike for $240 here in Texas. She's Euro blue and white, 56 cm, aluminum frame, carbon fork, Shimano Sora 2 X 9 drivetrain and weighs 21.2 pounds complete. I've named her Sophia and can't wait for her to be delivered.

Jon: You forgot to mention why Magni has the inner tube in his teeth - connected to his bars. He was riding (uphill) with a broken collar bone and couldn't pull on the bars (or get out of the saddle, for that matter). He was also found not guilty, possibly incorrectly, of war crimes, as a supporter / member of the Italian fascists during WWII.

jackseph03 Yep, noticed it as well. Video had some nice graphics, but the commentary?? Not surprised really as Jon is someone who seems to only judge bikes by some vapid ‘photo rules’ - crank in the 3 o’clock/ valves at the 6 o’clock. Very shallow.

His fascist politics are so sad, especially since Italian communists had liberated Trieste and many other northern Italian enclaves months before the US and Soviet troops had arrived. The communist workers had taken over factories from the generally fascist owners/bosses and either kicked them out on their bums or required them to take jobs on the shop floor in like everyone else. They also gave jobs to soldiers who had been disabled by war and who had been left to poverty under Italian capitalism/fascism. This all horrified the American generals when they finally arrived. I wouldn't be surprised if Willier's factory was one of these. All this was documented in the 1991 book by Noam Chomsky "Deterring Democracy."

The size aspect Claudio mentioned, and many articles mention is no joke. My size XL Cento10SL not only fits my 6'2 body like a glove. But is very aggressive while somehow maintaining a comfortable ride. Another very important factor to me is that the proportions are great, my XL Cento10 looks aesthetic and clean. Meanwhile my previous size 57.5(XL) Pinarello prince was Massive.

‘In 1995 we made 1,000 frames per year. Now our number is 30,000,’ says Andrea Gastaldello, co-owner of Wilier. As a result, Wilier’s headquarters is used less as a factory and more as a centre for assembly, design and prototype development. As with most of the high-end Italian brands - such as Pinarello, De Rosa and Colnago - frame production largely takes place in Asian factories

If given a blind test of bikes from Trek, Specialized, Canyon, Bianchi, Wilier, etc would you be able to feel any noticeable difference when riding? All of these high-end bikes have very similar geometry and they are all built with the same or similar materials, I think GCN should investigate this.

Nice video to see where my P.7 was painted and finished. No mention that Wilier is an acronym for W l’Italia LIberata E Redenta, where W is an abbreviation for "viva!", as other riders that ask me about my bike want to know WHO Wilier is.

I'm a huge fan of the Superleggera and that "Modern Classic" style of bike. Do you think you guys can do a piece on that sort of steed? Superlegerra Vs. Colnago Master?

Hey Jon, cracking video! Just a heads up; the double g leggera is pronounced as a j in English. It means ‘light’ (as in weight, not lumens).

I'm quite sure Alan or any of the GCN Italian crew called out Jon for this, way before Lasty upped the video on KZread.

I love these manufacturing facility visits. Generally they are an interesting mix of old style and modern painting and assembly facilities. Since the frames are almost always built in East Asia, painting and final assembly are the only things done in these plants. Since all of the frames come from the same few plants and the non frame components are all from the same few manufacturers, I wonder if there are any real differences between modern bikes or if we are really mostly paying for branding.

Thanks for the tour Jon. I've been really tempted to plunk down a large sum for a Cento10NDR. Did you happen to get your grubby little hands on some coupons for a discount?

Can GCN find that one megafactory in Schenzen, China where pretty much all the frames for all the brands are made? That would be very cool.

I suppose the frame manufacturers are under strict non-disclosure requirements, I doubt a factory tour can ever happen.

You may want to explain the whole "break" thing for those not privy, I feel there may be some people thinking that people in the UK only do high tea and don't have lunch breaks.
