The "Sei Ancora... una siracusana" line is actually quite a neat historical reference that some might not immediately pick up on You see, the whole Siracusa story is, of course, about Mafia. One of the characters involved in the story, Penance, is named (and based) after Giovanni Falcone, which you mightve heard of as being the judge who tried to fight the Mafia, and ended up being assassinated by the Mafia blowing up an entire part of a highway. One sentence uttered in Falcone's trial against Mafia itself, said by a mob boss to a pentito, was "Sei Ancora Un Siciliano" - "you're still sicilian." The line in the trailer echoes this very closely, merely switching the gender and replacing Siciliano with Siracusana, but especially interesting is the fact that, due to the framing of the shot, it puts Texas in the position of the pentito.

It's kind of ironic that Penance is supposed to be based on Giovanni Falcone when his assassination was kind of referenced by, of all things, the beginning of Code of Brawl. There have been some people saying that the first cutscene of that event actually has a lot of parallels with Falcone being bombed.

He said, that, during the scene where the wall gets blown up, he removed every sound except the running and breathing of the Uruk, so the following explosion would *feel* even louder. They used it more than once through out the trilogy. One from the charge against the orc raiders during the evacuation to Helms Deep and another from the Rohirrim charge against the Mumakils.

Glad to see you react to this one! It's a very nice introduction for Texas' character (and a new thing HG/Yostar is doing for new limited characters). The event Il Siracusano will indeed happen in Siracusa (which is, ofc, inspired by Italy as a country), and the characters from this event will also get a Italian dub ! Oh, and another character from the event (codename Penance) is a judge, and is actually inspired by/from Giovanni Falcone, a Italian judge who worked a lot against the Mafia back then.

The cool thing about Texas story is that she is a Columbian (the USA equivalent in Arknights). The Texas family migrated to Columbia, and assisted the imigrants and take the role of intermediary between Columbia and the Siracusa families and helped to modernize siracusa with the Columbia technologies. They were respected and had a lot of influence until they tried to independence of the Siracusan system and their 12 Families so they were annihilated with only Cellinia Texas as the last survivor. She moved to other country and stayaed away of Siracusa and all the mafia releated things for years. Until this event when she is returning to Siracusa. There are a couple of good songs with this events and the new characters, hope you like it.

The most spoiler-y thing in this comment maybe only the amount of Famiglia and her being the last member of Texas household.

Well, I have never played Arknights, but, I've been wild about the lore since it's prerelease. Tbh, that first scene basically told me most of OP's comment. It screamed to me "Texas is family to mafia-connected people, and she may be the last person who can go back to handle this shite." Still, seeing those in the know explain is pretty rewarding.

Didn't said "independence" started by Texas' father killing her grandfather who was against it? More like "power grab" than "good of the family" IMHO. IIRC certainly.

While not opera, there is the 3d animation of this event also released a bit ago set in a beautifully decorated theatre so there’s at least a sign there’s something of that musical heritage in there, maybe in the future! Also regarding your thoughts about the setting, i think this event would try to tackle something alike the realities of what organized crime meant back then (and now) considering one of the other characters we will get is “Penance”, a judge whose name is Lavinia Falcone and apparently is a reference to real life Giovanni Falcone, a judge who was murdered because of anti-mafia work. Obviously no representation is perfect but i think the angle they’d choose to focus in here is the easiest way to introduce us to a new faction by picking the obvious thing, this is the first event for Siracusa after all. I was nodding along after rewatching the original and noticing really the difference that the silences made! I quite liked the pacing of the voiceover contrasted to the music but didn’t quite realize some of it. Thanks a lot for your overview! 😊

Good news: Il Siracusano has several great songs of all different genres. The Teaser PV, Sentenced, Thorns in You, Go My Way, and WLFMSTER all fantastic.

As an italian, it's nice to see this kind of videos where you explain our culture Love for all you do

Having played the event now, it might interest you that its all set around a Opera performance "La Morte Di Texas" as the background that much of the event revolves about. Even though the story itself is hard into the fun maffia/Godfather pastiches with some fun added parts of Rome culture in the form of spirit/god-wolves and generally a massive sprinkling of wolf themes (just about everyone involved, Texas included, is a wolf-person) the Opera theme is absolutely a a big secondary theme for the event

Since I'm affiliated a bit with Italian culture, this gave a some nostalgic cultural vibes when I used to live in Italy. Mhm....them memorys...

Yesssss, I was so excited to see you check out the music from this event, it slaps so hard!

I'd really recommend giving a listen to Sentenced, a character song for one of the characters that are prominent in the Il Siracuso event, Penance/Lavinia Falcone. Her role as a judge in Siracusa is pretty significant and I'd love to hear your thoughts on the song and the story it tells! She's also based on a real Italian judge, which is super cool :D

I was seriously impressed with how delicately and precisely they handled the details for such an event. The developers of the game really care about the artistic aspect of the game above making a quick buck, unlike most mobile games. I really could say it's a sensational game. It's made even better by the analysis of such respectable professionals as you, sir. Bravo.

in the game there is a rivalvary between texas and another character called lappland (who is best girl) that symbolises texas' desire to separate herself from siracusa and all the gang violence, but never being able to as her past (lappland, who is the heir to one of the most powerful mobs) will always catch up to her. I would not be playing arknights today if it wasn't for the worldbuilding and mystery around these two, even if it's only a minor part of the story

This was my favorite event in the game so far.

Their choice to call a siracusan crime family “Texas” remains funny to me. Texas comes from Spanish “Tejas” which comes from Caddo táyshaʼ. There’s also a character named “Grace Arizona” from their legally distinct UK.

Texas family is said to be exiled from Siracusa (AK Italy) and made a name for themselves in Columbia (AK US or greater NA), basically referencing the Godfather plotline, so it could very well be that our wolf girl's grandfather picked a more local "Columbian" name for the new born family. Texas is also referring what our wolf girl design is based on - the Texas wolf, an extinct subspecies, which also correspond the family's fate.

Texas is one of my favorite characters besides the Nearls and Lungmen Police (Chen and Hoshiguma). I love the lore behind the Dragon Siblings as well. Should take a look at them. kind of a late comment was wrestling with the flu, but from what I gather about this event n the country Siracusa, it draws a montage to the Godfathers. I might be wrong "I don't really know Italian culture/geography that well" but the area & tone feels like a prohibition period Chicago ie the jazz n speakeasy kind of music. "Someone with more knowledge of the subject please correct me" As for Texa's story, it hints for a while that Texa's past comes knocking whether she wants it or not, in her character records n side story content. So this event was anticipated, both to learn more about Siracusa as a country and Texa's story and her growth. also, I love that AK dev n publisher is adding Italian n English dubs, it getting to the point I can't choose which voice to pick and wish they add a random option :P

Imo you should review Operation Deepness, or any "Operation [something]" from Arknights too, but Operation Deepness is my favourite, love your content

WHOA there’s MORE Mafia and italian culture in this game?? I love Italian culture so much sfdgfdgfadssdfg I was so disappointed Mihoyo won’t have an Italy equivalent in Genshin. Perhaps I will look into Arknights more! Your reaction makes me want to. Have you heard of Gunslinger Girl? I think you would like the manga. The story takes place in Italy and the author has drawn the characters in Italian settings. The anime itself has a classical Italian OST, and the ending theme Dopo il Sogno has two versions (the tv version, which sounds different and the album version) and is sung in Italian. It’s really the only anime/manga afaik that has so much of Italy in it.

I like silence as a toold because it gives you nowhere to run, there are no emotions to be lost in, no comforting familiarity. There's just a void, sucking you in, only to be hit by that solemn, desperate voice. You can do nothing, see nothing, feel nothing, but that one single thing that they want you to feel, making it feel... not overwhelming, but it feels almost suffocating? Idk the word.

A nod to real Italian history would be the fact that one of the character of this event is a judge who's last name is Falcone in reference of the real judge of the same name who gave his life in his fight against the mafia. From what I've heard and read this event is about breaking the rule of the "family". That being said as a lover of Italian culture I totally understand how this systematic assimilation can feel reductive (because it is). I choose however to see it as a door and rejoice at the prospect of those who will go past the stereotype and discover one the most seminal culture of the western world. ;)

from the context I have gotten is that Texas (Her last name) is the last of the Texas family. Her family has been wiped out. The event is pretty much "Sins of the past have come for" Texas and she has to deal with it

Hey Marco, interested in Arknights music? Here are incredible songs you will be excited to react to: Rhytm in Literature, sfsui (battle theme), Ling theme, Shatterpoint (ch10) boss theme. As all of these are quite heavy and deep music suggestions, here are some lighter variants - Lee's theme, Texas the Omertosa theme and im lazy to think of more, its already a lot. By heavy ones, I mean they have a very good plot and you will certainly find them interesting, and if you want to go for lighter ones, they are more of an enjoyable music to listen to and upbeat your mood. Also I gotta give you a credit for paying attention to the smallest details in your analysis, I love that you are spreading the classical music for the others and make it easier for them to take in, accept. ❤

While Texas the Omertosa as a unit is so broken its actually unfunny, I still will enjoy the coming Il Siracusano event!

Fun fact: Texas is considered the equivalent of Italian-american, her en cv is an American accent while her counterpart you saw during the fire scene, Lappland, is Italian and has an en cv with the Italian accent. If you wanted to start reading an event i would recommend this one as they are taking a new approach to include viewpoints from each character and an exploration aspect through the city. Okay one more fun fact: One of the new released characters is based on Giovanni Falcone, the famous Italian judge who sought to rid of mobsters. They even released the event on the anniversary of his again.

If you want a more in lore statement on that,Texas was born in Columbia,hence her American accent. Of course,at the time when they first started adding English voice actors into the mix,they didn't particularly account for adding British accents to Australian Operators. Definitely improved since then.

@@master_swish ,again,considering how they first dumped British accents onto Australian Operators,had they chose not to change that,Texas could've easily been given a British accent for no particular reason. Also,if you're going to mention a characters' likeness to another nation,you have to state where she was born and raised,not who her CV is. It's like saying "Shaw has her Hong Kong accent,you can tell from her Scottish VA."

@@NareshSinghOctagon The fact she is Columbian, which is the terra equivalent of American, had nothing to do with her VA having an American accent. She simply was in lore prior to both the EN VA and the IS event and they did not change it to match the accent. If you check her place of birth in her original operator record it says Columbia. We've known that's the equivalent of America since they started showing us the map of Terra etc. Now unless this is some Mandela effect that they retconned stuff then yokek(who does the en va localization) and HG are both on the same page that she is American and thus should have that accent ideally. Granted ik many of the others in the beginning batches don't match right, ie phantom not being British, etc. This however doesn't mean that all of them are wrong. Whoever was conducting the first batch VAs could've known to make certain ops have a certain accent as they are vastly more in the know than us. We simply do not know if they knew to make her have an American accent that batch however my original comment was to draw to the fact that in the current state of the game the VA matching to their ethnicity is true for these characters, allowing one to draw that they come from the respective equivalent countries on terra to their accent. I made no meantion of the en va nationality or their normal accent, only the character's accent in the current batch.

And yes,they are very wrong with the first batch,unless you're trying to say that British accents are perfectly acceptable for an Australian,especially after it was proven that they can speak in a thick Australian slang. Again,though,mentioning her EN VA as having an American accent as the backing up point to her being American-Italian is arse-backwards and doesn't work in context of everyone else. Saying that she's born in Columbia as part of a Siracusan family,hence her American-Italian accent,not because of what her VA did,is how you should say it.
