Italian Lemonade The Original Italian Soda

Where did Italian soda come from? Well, originally, it was found in old cookbooks, even Jerry Thomas' 1862 cocktail book, but the only reference to a modern Italian soda in old soda fountain books is the Italian Lemonade. Now, this drink used expensive French wines in the recipe and most of the recipes didn't have any lemons in them. It's an interesting low-alcohol drink though, so check it out.

Thank you so much for this channel! It clarified concepts that were hard to grasp by reading it in a book. Sometimes you need to actually see. Hoping you will make an episode about amari and break down herbs in detail. Just finished reading A. Stewart's The Drunken Botanist and wish books like these would show the plants with real and original pictures, and not just a paragraph and a little illustration. Channels like this fill the gap perfectly! Cheers!

Thanks! Now that the weather is too hot to spend much time outside, I can spend more time inside making videos! That's the theory anyway.

Just recently found your channel, excited to start making my own drinks. Speaking of regional sodas, have you ever tried or made your own dandelion and burdock? It's popular in the UK, but I don't know if I've ever seen it in the US.

I have tried it but I haven’t come across recipes for it in old soda fountain manuals.

What does it mean to serve solid? :P I try to google "solid serve cocktail" but can't find anything. I watch a lot of bartenders and haven't heard that before :D It's that you first pour the carbonated water?

It means to serve a soda/highball without ice by adding the soda water first and then pour in the syrup. It is a soda fountain term from the 1800s and early 1900s. This method keeps the drink highly carbonated and doesn't go flat quickly.
