God Bless Alpini and Italy, the story is fascinating. From Hong Kong.

War is a tragedy. Even as a Russian I cannot force myself to hate this man. I am glad that some of them retained their humanity in that hellish bloodbath that was Eastern Front, where evil, barbarism and violence reigned supreme. It pains me that he and his comrades had to kill our people, but at the same time I am glad that he survived and lived to tell his story. To anyone endorsing the war I recomend to take a long look in the mirror. Let's hope that there will be a peaceful sky above us and our children.

@@sala7972 Yes, the war in Ukraine is horribly acting as an erasure of something great (...), which was fixed for decades and decades in the guts (minds) of everyone in the world who studied WWII, namely, the great suffering inflicted and the great resistance and then the bloody victory of the Russians (of the "Soviets" we should say, in the absence of other quick definitions, given that other populations are also involved); in fact no one suffered as much as those populations in that horrible war (and we Italians too contributed thanks to fascist stupidity, in spite of the many Balzari and Rigoni Stern present in our army). Putin and his closest men are also guilty of this... I hope it doesn't happen entirely, that the Russians find a balance as democratic as possible, and that even NATO stops moving against them for its geostrategic interests (which have so much justified this 'imperial' Putin's madness); so that we will be able to go back to admiring that great epic without hindrance (which, moreover, Stalin fueled, although he was a "criminal" himself). Che cazzo di casino...

Much respect for Italian vets from Poland. The war stories should remind all politicians to keep peace.

No different from other soldiers of different countries showing the same compassion towards human life in a horrible war. On the other side, Italians also committed atrocities like everyone else. Nonetheless, I admire this man and his comrades for his courage and compassion towards human life.

Il fratello di mio nonno, classe 1914, alpino della cuneense si è fatto, guerra in africa nel 1936, poi guerra in albania-grecia e infine nel luglio 42 partì la russia, tornando solo ad ottobre 1945, dopo quasi 3 anni di prigionia, malato e senza forze x lavorare in campagna e senza uno straccio di pensione x via di una assurda burocrazia. Quando io ho compiuto 18 anni, mi ha chiamato da parte e mi ha raccontato la sua terribile storia, le marce del davai, la catastrofe del campo di smistamento a krinovaja, poi la malaria in uzbequistan, a tasken...infine l italia.Morì nel 1994, grande eroe dagli occhi sempre tristi. Vedendo quello che succede adesso in italia credo che è la, che si rivolta nella tomba...

Cosa aggiungere a questa triste ed epica pagina di storia... La CUNEENSE, è stata la Divisione Alpina che si è immolata sul fronte Russo, e che ha pagato il prezzo di vite perse più alto. È stata la Divisione Alpina che dati alla mano è stata letteralmente decimata, un vero e straziante sterminio di giovani e di uomini. Seguiva poi la TRIDENTINA, anch'essa protagonista nella steppa Russa , ed era tenuta a combattere con i suoi Alpini gli spettri di un nemico invisibile sul fiume DON, e di un Inferno bianco fatto di ghiaccio, neve perenne e la sofferenza di un mal equipaggiamento dei Nostri Alpini impegnati sul fronte Russo. Uomini semplici, contadini e montanari insieme uniti nel combattere al fronte russo. Gente che ha lasciato i propri cari, la propria famiglia, i propri borghi, paesi e le amate contrade per combattere una guerra assurda contro un nemico invisibile. Molti non sono più tornati, e i reduci erano i nostri libri viventi di storia. Il massimo Onore, ed il rispetto per questi GRANDI UOMINI. È triste dirlo, e personalmente provo un senso di rabbia nel vedere inutilmente le vite spezzate ed i feretri dei Nostri caduti avvolti con il tricolore, e con il Cappello Alpino sulla bara, quando ci si ritrova di fronte alla triste realtà attuale di un " AMATA PATRIA ITALIA " che NON NE È PIÙ riconoscente, e che è la prima a Voltare le spalle e a dimenticare i sacrifici fatti dei Nostri Caduti ALPINI sul Fronte Russo. Invece il Ministero della Difesa va al risparmio con LA SECONDA VIA (2023). Va apprezzata la ricerca linguistica dei personaggi e musicale. "Qualcosa" da ridire sui costumi, effetti visivi del gelo, e ambientazioni. La Germania ha prodotto l'ottimo "Stalingrad" oltre trenta anni fa con uno sforzo produttivo notevole. Non si può dire lo stesso per "La Seconda Via". La scelta narrativa di descrivere la ritirata di una mezza dozzina di alpini rientra forse più in una furbata produttiva che stilistica.

Ho sentito questi racconti dallo zio Rino, ma avevo 5 anni, poi mio padre me li ha narrati. Incredibile quello che hanno sopportato gli italiani.Lui era artigliere, e quando sparavano i mortai, il nemico rimaneva intirizzito , tutti in piedi, tutti morti, gli ufficiali russi sparavano ai loro che inditreggiavano davanti alle mitragliatrici italiane. Testuali parole: attraversavano il don a battaglioni(500) e e centrati morivano in piedi!!!! Erano talmente tanti che rimanevano in piedi! Poi è tornato a casa , e i suoi figli se ne fregano... per me è l'eroe massimo.Onore alla TRIDENTINA

The Italians fought hard on the Russian front against all odds. There story is not told in the English history of ww2 only there defeats in North Africa and false propaganda about them being cowards.These brave men should have there story told and i thank you for posting this video. So ora sto sentendo questa testimonianza molto toccante!!! Mio papà classe1920 è partito anche lui a meno di 20 anni anche lui artigliere alpino .lui però ha fatto il fronte greco albanese e è stato in Iugoslavia dal 43 al46 prigioniero prima inFrancia poi in Inghilterra come forza lavoro. Io sono de59 lui raccontava cose terribili quando ero piccola poi non ha piu raccontato niente.Grazie a questo signore che racconta ! Ho tanta paura che tra pochi anni nessuno parlerà più di questo . Grazie !!!!!

I am Russian and my grandfather fought in this bloody war defending his own land where Nazi came to our land and destroyed everything on its way. USSR lost 27 million people, freed it's own land from occupants and went till the end to Berlin and destroyed the enemy. Why these people came and attack our land and killed our people, who gave them the right, why they chose to go to this war? Our people had every right to protect and defend themselves. Although I respect Italians and glad this person came out of the war alive and respect his sharing of his story but it still leaves bitter taste. We always remember our heroes and hope that everyone educates themselves on history and knows both sides of the story. Hope it never ever happens again and we preserve peace for future generations.

I'm trying to find out more about my grandfather's history during WWII. He was in the 2nd Alpini Regiment before later joining the Partisans. His last name was Aschiero and hailed from Mongardino in Asti, Piemonte. His awards and medals were stolen from him when he went to the USA to get married. His home in Italy was completely vandalized and nothing remained. If anyone can please help me I would greatly appreciate it! I was so proud of my grandfather and love my Italian heritage. God bless!

If you have his name, his district and the year of birth, you can find his military papers in italian State archive. Someone can help you here in Italy

if you have the name you can refer to Asti Military District Archives. The only information needed is name surname place and year of birth. The Italian archives are quite well done, it should give you for around 100 $ of paperworks all the information from the date of conscription, to the rank attained and posting/fighting episodes

It would be of help indirectly if Italian government would not obstruct the contribution of Italian military after it Joined the Allies against Nazi and Italian fascist,also Italian partisans..the Nazi military assigned many thier best combat divisions to stop the Allies taking over ITALY,those Nazi divisions would otherwise be assigned to Western front France ,Belgium Benelux counteies and Normandy campaign by allies would have had a much greater opposition..my opinion

al giuramento gridammo "Tridentina Avanti" e mi prese un brivido... allora avevo 19 anni ma la cosa mi stupì molto. Poi ho avuto modo di conoscere molto di più della Tridentina, della quale ancora conservo con onore il mio fregio. Fiero d'averne fatto parte, fortunatamente in tempo di pace, e di farne parte oggi e per sempre.

Davanti a questi Uomini, posso soltanto e a stento, frenare le lacrime e dire loro: "Siete stati grandi e la vostra umanità è lo è stata ancora di più. Grazie!"

Sono qua dopo la prima parte. Vivido, impressionante. Balzari ricorda tutto, fin ai dettagli, con la stessa lucidità che aveva quei tanti anni fa. Testimonianza molto, *molto* importante. Grazie icuno.

Sono stato solo venti giorni in totale in zone di guerra nei Balcani trenta anni fa. Tra campi minati, sparatoria a cento metri dal nostro alloggio, una mitragliata finita fortunosamente da un metro in poi dietro il nostro veicolo... Garantisco che si ricorda ogni minuto come fosse ieri. E quel terrore del momento ti si attacca a vita come una seconda pelle.

Eroi, semplicemente veri eroi ma con un cuore grande così! Mi inchino al loro coraggio

Nessuno parla del Cavallo che ha salvato la sua vita.... Onore Agli Cavalli e muli.... Grazie

sono rimasti pochissimi ,l`altr`anno e` morto Danilo classe 20 aveva 97 anni preso prigioniero in Africa dagli inglesi e mandato in campo di prigionia in Sudafrica.

Mio nonno Marchetti Giovanniclasse 1912,caporal maggiore della 109ª compagnia A.A. battaglione Tirano,caduto il 22 gennaio 1943 ...R.I.P....viva gli Alpini

My Italian grandfather was captured by the Russians in WW2. He was put to work building bombs while he was held captive. He told the family that he and the other Italian POWs asked one Russian guard if he would let them escape. The Russian guard gave them a day & time (after dark) to meet him and he would open the gate. My grandfather and his buddies discussed whether to trust the Russian guard. Some of the Italians believed they would be shot in the back by the same Russian guard as they exited the gate. They discussed it and some of them came to the conclusion that it would be worth the risk. They believed they would either die captive or die as as they walk through the open gate. The time arrived, some them walked up to the guard standing at the gate. The guard opened the gate. My grandfather and his few friends walked past the guard and towards freedom. He & the other soldiers survived by hiding in Russian farms during the day, begged for food, and walked at night. He finally made it back to Italy and the war was declared officially over. I wish I knew more but he refused to talk about his experiences except for his escape and how he was put to work building bombs as a POW.

Anche il '' Verona'' fu tra i primi ad entrare a Nikolajevka ed ebbe perdite enormi , ho conosciuto il nipote che aveva due zii in quel battaglione , sono morti entrambi......risparmiando quei due partigiani vi siete garantiti un posto in paradiso , avevo gia' letto la storia in un libro , mi ha fatto piacere sentirla da chi l'ha vissuta .

mio zio Rino cl. 1920 era nel 6° alpini, btg. Verona conducente ed ha fatto sì tutta la ritirata compresa Nikolajewka che non si sa perché gli italiani la chiamano così, quando s'è sempre chiamata Livenka. Infatti non esiste nella geografia russa Nikolajewka. Ad ogni modo mio zio assieme a 2 paesani fece 3 giorni coi denti e occhi sbarrati dalla paura, come un animale, lui che da civile era contadino e sagrestano; raccontava che c'erano morti lungo la pista come quando si dà il "flit" ( moschicida spry per chi è giovane e non ha visto il flit), e arrivavano aerei a mitragliare le colonne sulla neve. Era ignorante mio zio, però riuscì a fare 2 capolavori in guerra, dopo Francia, Albania, Grecia e Russia, ritornò a casa ed alla sera dell'8 settembre coi veci della Russia, scappò dalla compagnia al Brennero e per vie traverse dal vicentino, rientrò a casa e riprese a fare il contadino e mangiare e dormire a casa come niente fosse fino alla fine della guerra e nessun tedesco o repubblichino lo molestò.

Emozione e dolore infinito. Grazie per la memoria. Mio padre Tenente Luigi Giordana è stato insignito della Medaglia di argento al VM per aver incitato i suoi uomini a sfondare a Nikolayevka.

che testimonianza toccante ! Nemmeno quella di mio zio del Btg Verona è stata così toccante come questa del Sig. Ugo. Come raccontava anche mio zio, i partigiani erano un problema; nella compagnia di mio zio, fermatasi in un gruppo di isbe, sentivano un colpo di fucile ed un alpino morto, poi un altro ancora e si sono accorti che un partigiano era nascosto in un barile che apriva e chiudeva dopo lo sparo. Un paesano si è avvicinato e gli ha detto: - per te non consumo neanche una pallottola, perché sono preziose -- e l'ha ucciso col calcio del fucile. Oramai sono morti tutti e, come dice il Sg Ugo, la maggior parte non sapeva nemmeno dov'era la Russia e perché andavano ad occupare e conquistare...

My grandfather and his brother were in the Alpina Julia, his brother died somewhere...

Ricordando le lettere di mio zio, che mia nonna mi leggeva e gelosamente le racchiudeva in un cassetto, vedendo e sentendo il filmato mi sono venuti i brividi , pensare che mio zio disperso , a fatto una brutta fine, nei posti da lui indicati grazie

HO Scale modeling is a hobby, ( HERPA / ROCO ) my Marklin layout is made to look like someplace ? in Germany 1943 -- 44. My father was a USA Army WWII Vet. could he tell some situations ! he landed 4 weeks after D Day. France, Holland, Germany, Austria and near the CZ border area. Go ARMY

icunowlibra scusa ti potrei chiedere un'intervista al battaglioni carri Leonessa M della RSI mi interessa sapere riguardo un episodio a Piacenza il 26 aprile 1945 in cui i nostri carri tennero testa per 3 ore agli Sherman americani

Fuciliere alpino incarico 30/A del 6° Tridentina. San Candido- Hinnichen. Onore agli alpini. Ad ottobre insieme alla mia 62-esima compagnia ritorneremo per l'ennesima volta a Dobbiaco per poi visitare i resti della nostra caserma ormai distrutta e rivalorizzata. VURIA ?!?!?!?!?!? MAI !!!!!

recentemente ho conosciuto l'ultimo reduce Repubblicano della Tagliamento. Arruolatosi volontario a 16 anni è stato ferito e decorato da Kesserling in persona. Ti interesserebbe intervistarlo? Avevo pensato di farlo io ma ne verrebbe fuori un pessimo lavoro che non gli renderebbe onore. Scrivimi!

Remember please that the Italians never wanted to fight in the first place. Italians are peaceful people in general. When you have a fascist leader you dont have a say. Didn't Mussolini's demise tell you how they felt about the bastard?

Si e tanti di loro non volevano combattere non glie ne fregava un cazzo di invadere la Russia mio Nonno era lì a lui interessava solo tornare a casa e per tutta la vita ha rimpianto di aver ucciso altri ragazzi per tornare a casa della Vergine

Italians invaded Russia four times in it's history. We scored two victories against them. In the Russia Civil War we was ordered to withdrow after securing agreements with the Soviets, so that was a draw. Only in the recent world war 2 we lost, of course for obvious reasons. The Fascist regime was not only unorepared for such war, they didn't even spent money to finance and found the war effort. Our divisions was on half organic, most of the times with bad equipment or with equipment for winter environment locked in depots while our soldiers died on the field mostly due frozen temperatures and lack of food. As like the war wasn't enough lethal. Yet, our forces and especially the Alpini had the upper hand in Russia for a good while. Our cavalry regiments, not impent by mud and the rasputizia, was able to push foward quite well despite all the odds. Yet it was immediately clear by the conditions of the Russian people, that such war was an inhuman act of aggression that would have harmed poor, already persecuted, people which only guilt was that of seeking a better life and yet they was defeated and ruled by the Soviet regime. They realized that no matter the color of the flag, those who are catch in the middle of such wars are always the poor people, those who don't deserve such suffering and pain. And so the morale of our troops went down. Our soldiers was accused to be "too human". That was our sin. And after all, what to expect from those inhuman animals of the nazi? Those who wanted to kill us too after the war ended because they considered us too as "sub-humans". It was the right thing to do, lose the war and let these monsters face justice. Even if those who won the war wasn't so better than them. We just quitted this horror before it could have made too many victims, and they already made too much. 72 millions is a huge burden for our cosciences. But Soviets and communist regimes around the world have an even bigger burden to carry. More than 200 millions through their whole history. Because they wasn't stopped when it was clear they wasn't nothing more than monsters. And the Allies, and their Capitalism... since the times of the Industrial revolution, they made directly and indirectly more than 3.4 billions of victims. That evil will be hard to stop. And even today there are people that just encourage it instead of oppose a thing that is clearly wrong only because it can bring them much power. At the end of the day, one man can choose honor and integrity or power and blood. It will be those who will come that will judge them. We Italians, fortunately enough, have always chosen honor over power.
