Peccato... mancava solo il senso di quella missione militare. Per l'Italia istituzionale erano solo morti da barattare e scusa se è poco... missione compiuta.

A mio nonno sergente della Julia, tornato con un braccio congelato e mezzo orecchio, da ragazzo mi raccontava dell'euforia nella partenza dell l'ARMIR non pensava al freddo, il suo moschetto era sufficente....................Siamo tornati ritirandoci con dignita' e i miei commilitoni che mi stavano vicino sparivano uno dopo l'altro.........Dopo la guerra parlava sempre dei gloriosi e indistruttibili alpini..... Purtroppo comincio' a bere ogni mattina bancosarti su biancosarti, e parlava di una bellissima Katiusha con le lacrime agli occhi e con le lacrime agli occhi pronunciava nomi di commilitoni che erano per lui fratelli ormai persi.................. Onore a te nonno, alla Julia, alla tridentina, alla Cuneense, e a tutti i soldati italiani caduti con onore e dignita' in Russia.

in tutto quell'orrore di morte e di gelo, almeno suo nonno si è riscaldato un po' il cuore avendo conosciuto la bella Katiusha. Il fiore dell'amore nato tra tanta distruzione. Gli uomini della Julia, come sappiamo, hanno vissuto il duro fronte greco-albanese ed i sopravvissuti anche la Russia e, la Julia veniva impiegata dove c'era l'urgente necessità, quindi la più esposta al fronte e lo si vede dalle medaglie conquistate. Onore a suo nonno !

Quanti ricordi in quello che dici. Anche mio nonno mi raccontava della campagna di Russia. Lui era dei Bersaglieri. Ha scritto pure un diario. Parlava infatti di una fortissima offensiva dei Sovietici nell inverno 1943. Tanti e tanti morti e poi la ritirata nella bufera 40 gradi sotto zero. Solo I tedeschi avevano I camion o I carri coi cavalli. Gli italiani tutti a piedi con gli stivali di cuoio. Mio nonno riuscì a tornare a casa con mezzi di fortuna grazie a Dio.

I pity and respect our fathers, as an Italian. We soffered so many mistakes, disorganization and militar leadership wrongdoings. We were badly submitted to the Germans too, way too much and ambivalently so. We payed horribly for our many monarchy and fascist regime's shames. Consider today in 2024 we have a kind of nostalgic (not anti-fascist) government keeping on refusing to consider such bloody hystoric pages ad the shame they were. Germans did way better with their hystoric memory and war broken country identity.

I knew one of the captured Italian forces who had spent 6 years in a Siberian labour camp, he never spoke a word. Let's not forget all of the brave soldiers who just did their duty, regardless which side they were fighting on.

My dad served with Julia division, spent 3 months on the Russian front, after serving in Abyssinia, Greece, and Albania, the Alpini high command asked that any soldiers born in 1910 or earlier be recalled from the Russian front, luckily he was recalled and sent to France, his age 32 at the time , after the armistice in 43 he was disarmed and taken prisoner by the Germans and spent the remainder of the war in a camp, sadly 70000 of his fellow country men from the north of Italy didn’t return from Russia, RIP DAD, 1910 - 1989

My uncle Oscar was from 1915, he spent two years in Abyssinia and then was recalled to the Julia Division. Served in the same spots as your dad but went through the hell of the Don front collapse and subsequent retreat. Fought at Nikolayevka, lost some toes to frostbite and made it home just barely. After hospitalization he went into hiding in Cuneo, he wasn't all there when I met him in 1975 and a couple of years later died.

Il mio nonno ebbe la "fortuna" di essere affiancato alla Werhmacht e finire a Stanlingrado a divertirsi come un matto durante la battaglia. Durante la ritirata, si perse durante una tormenta di neve, e venne salvato da una ragazza ucraina o russa. Odiavano così tanto gli italiani che savavano i soldati che invadevano le loro case e patria. Che gran popolo i russi e gli ucraini. La fortuna di parlare molte bene russo gli permisero di non finire in un campo di prigionia. Devo la mia esistenza a quella gente tutto sommato.

"DATE ALL'ALPINO UN ATTREZZO E LA NEVE DIVERRA' BALUARDO" Tratto da "100.000 gavette di ghiaccio" di Giulio Bedeschi: Il colonnello Garri, comandante della divisione alpina Julia, sconcertato dal trasferimento dell'intera divisione alla steppa russa, scrive questa lettera di fuoco allo stato maggiore italiano: "...La Julia è stata tolta dalla zona di operazione greca nel precisato intento di essere impiegata sulle montagne del Caucaso...Ma l'impiego in pianura di queste truppe le espone a catastrofiche conseguenze, impedendo, per la sola natura del terreno, ch'esse possano dispiegare e sfruttare quelle caratteristiche materiali e morali che in terreno montano le rendono assolutamente eccezionali. La guerra in pianura, invece, richiede un addestramento opposto a quello che ad esse è stato impartito, e le sottoporrebbe in partenza ad una sfasatura spirituale rovinosa. L'equipaggiamento ad esse in dotazione risulterebbe del tutto irrazionale...ecc. My Great Uncle was a sergeant in the Tolmezzo battalion. He was KIA in Russia 1942.

My uncle Oscar did two years in East Africa in the mid 1930's, then returned home and a few years later was recalled into the Julia Division, fought in Yugoslavia where he was wounded and after recovery was sent to the Don front, was at Nikolayevka, lost some toes from frostbite and barely made it home. He was not totally there for the rest of his life and died relatively young in his early 60's.

@Adolph Esposito guarda io non sono razzista, anzi il sud Italia è bellissimo e ame piace tantissimo Napoli (e sono del nord da generazioni). Semplicemente c'è una mentalità ancora di predominio della mafia sulla gente perbene,ma soprattutto non capisco come questi delinquenti bastardi possano fare cattiverie ai loro compaesani. My grandpa was there, between those braves men, he was 21. After the great retreat he was taken prisoner by the germans and put inside a concentration camp. During an american bombardment he escaped and came back to Italy on foot. The uncle of my mother never came back, he was only 19 and his body was never found. Both were in the Julia. R.I.P. nonno Giulio R.I.P. zio Lino.

Il nonno di un mio amico era nella julia..raccontava che usavano i pezzi di copertone..le ruote..per proteggere i piedi dal freddo..avessero avuto il giusto equipaggiamento l eroismo dei nostri avrebbe prodotto risultati ancora migliore. Onore a tutti i reduci e caduti.

Una donna appassionata di fatti di Guerra???

sono commoventianche per me che ho sempre seguitole vicende in russia e letto moltissimo su questa vicenda a causa di mio padre autiere del 248 autoreparto che faceva la spola da millerovo a stalingrado per portare rifornimenti ai militari della 6 armata. ricordo che mamma diceva che ha sostituito un commilitone perchè il suo automezzo era guasto e per questo motivo non è più tornato .

Ho letto un libro su quello sfortunato reparto di Autieri.Gli unici italiani aggregati alla 6 armata tedesca. Prego per tuo padre e per tutti quei ragazzi

They fought on the wrong side. The Germans didn't respect Italians and considered them nothing more than cannon fodder. It seemed, however, the Russians didn't hate the Italians and vice versus, but the wars don't care, it's bodies that count. The Italians never did get the credit they deserved in WW2. In New Mexico along the border where they worked on the farms as POW's, we Hispanic kids like to visit with them and even wonder why they fought with the Germans. In some farms there were even German POW's but were not so well liked and Army guards wouldn't let us near them. An incident occur that attracted attention in my town however, one of the local girls ran away with an Italian POW. Her father was a night watchmen guarding the rails. We never knew what happened to them except the family left town and we never heard anything from them.

L'espressione "italiani brava gente" nasce durante l'invasione dell'URSS, in quanto i sovietici vedevano la differenza tra il comportamento degli italiani, rispetto ai soldati tedeschi. La scelta dell'Italia fu folle, e senza senso, l'URSS era una nazione lontana dall'Italia, pensare che ci invadessero era folle, non eravamo la Finlandia, che comunque non fu conquistata dall'URSS.

Ci vorrebbero adesso queste persone. Dignita e coraggio.

The return of the survived troops from Eastern Front kickstarted Italian resistance in Northern Italy after September 8th, 1943 when Badoglio's government announced the armistice and surrender and the Germans tried to disarm Italian troops. They knew the hellhole of war and the way the Germans treated us during the retreat, quite easy to understand why they went to the mountain before and started shooting Germans and fascists suck-up

Mussolini was the first and only liar and traitor. He wanted those corpses. He wanted our soldiers to die only to have a weight in the diplomatic conferences after the war. To show that us Italians was worthy of a reward. Mussolini was a coward and a traitor. Other than a serve of the nazi. He deserved his end.

@@Stefanox101 l'Italia più grande doveva farla con l'industria e la tecnologia. Come ha fatto il Giappone che in meno di un secolo, partendo dal medioevo si è messo al pari delle potenze di allora. Grandi si diventa coi fatti non con i teatrini delle parate e i discorsi dai balconi per catturare il consenso del popolino quando tutti gli esperti gli dicevano che eravamo impreparati. E' per la sua irresponsabilità che questi poveracci sono morti.

Mussolini era l'ultimo a volere la guerra, l'Armir fu mandata in russia visti i buoni risultati del CSIR e il fatto che i tedeschi erano ancora in avanzata. Gli alpini dovevano essere inizialmente mandati a combattere sul Caucaso, ma poi Hitler decise, all'insaputa di Mussolini, di mandarli sul Don.

@@maurizioiannaccone6533 probabilmente abbiamo studiato 2 storie diverse. La mia dice che Hitler non gradiva gli italiani in Russia, fu Mussolini ad insistere perché, confidando sulla vittoriosa potenza teutonica, avrebbe poi potuto sedersi al tavolo dei vincitori.

@@emidiovagnoni9635 siamo comunque sulla stessa linea in questo caso, soltanto che lei ha parlato dei fatti antecedenti i miei. Sicuramente fu un grandissimo errore di mussolini mandare lì questi ragazzi, ma non dobbiamo girare la storia, come fatto ad esempio con il mito delle scarpe di cartone. Dopo la famosa ritirata di Russia, Hitler voleva trattenere le forze italiane in russia, sia per presidiare diverse zone di fronte, sia per fare da retroguardia.

Il mio bis zio ,fratello di mia nonna , geniere della Julia non riuscì a sopravvivere a questa follia infernale .... fini "disperso" durante la ritirata ... a 20 anni

Leggete il libro di Nuto Revelli " L'ultimo fronte", ove sono riportate le lettere dei nostri soldati cola' morti. Una toccante pagina di vite vissute.

Due miei nonni,fratelli,servirono nella folgore e parteciparono in varie campagne,tra cui,proprio quella in Russia,dove sfortunatamente morirono di congelamento. Il comune del mio paese,per onorarli,crearono un monumento (che fù anche restaurato) ai caduti della guerra,e tra i nomi,ci sono anche loro. Non è tutto,infatti,nominarono anche una via in loro onore,ovvero la "Via Fratelli Arenella"

I barely found stuff on the Internet and my Italian is very bad, but if there is no other source my Parents would translate. I´m thankful for any help ! PS.: Its a very good documentation, love it ! Next week i will show this my father, i think he will be happy to see something about his fathers division, he already told him storys about the war when he was young.

Perché solo agli Alpini ?

Un parente di mia mamma Stella Giulio di Arsiero(VI)26-02-1943 non si hanno più notizie perché risultato disperso,sembra il 21-01-1943.Era negli alpini Juia9Reggimento Battaglione Vicenza.Neanche i suoi parenti stretti nessuno notizia neanche della piastrina di riconoscimento.Speriamo in bene.Se si calmassero con la guerra,mi piacerebbe fare un giro turistico x vedere dove sono andati a combattere.Si da Verona xche' sono partiti da lì e ho fatto la visita militare.

Lo zio di mia madre, aveva 33 anni e 2 figli piccoli ed era come un secondo padre per lei in quanto mio nonno materno era un marittimo in navigazione, quando venne richiamato alle armi e mandato sul fronte russo. Non è più tornato.

Due dei cugini del mio padre, nella Cuneense, uno disperso nella ritirata dal Don, l'altro Internato nel 43 Durante la tradotta dalla Russia al 8 Settmbre 43, dai Tedeschi. Morto di stenti e TBC nel 44.

Si che il fratello di mia nonna è ritornato con problemi fisici alla gamba xche' investito da un carro armato.Ho avuto la fortuna di conoscerlo xro' mai parlato di come sono andate le cose.

Il mio bisnonno era alpino nella Julia..... e tornato dalla Russia ma purtroppo è morto prima che nascessi e non ha raccontato tanto a mia bisnonna. Onore ai soldati che hanno combattuto in Russia.

@@icunowlibra no. E morto nel 1968. Di lui conservo alcune sue foto del servizio militare.... il foglio di congedo... una foto in alta uniforme da alpino e il proclama del generale Messe allo CSIR del maggio 1943.

The Germans blamed the Italians cor every defeat and took the merit for every victory. Because of this, there are many Italian victories counted as German victories in Biritish history books, for example the capture of Donetsk (Stalino) was done by the Italians, the capture of Marsa Matruh in Africa as well, but it's German victories. On the other hand Hitler blamed the Italians for losing in Stalingrad and has spread that lie that the Italian intervention in Greece had him delay Barbarossa (the Nurember trial has proved Hitler already decided on his own to invade Greece and Yugoslavia)

@@InfoRome I read that the Italians had the situation well in hand by the time the Germans arrived in Greece. Also operation Barbarossa was delayed by bad weather. Not the Italians. Actually,the Italians fought with distinction in Russia.

​@@saigon68foxtrot83 Greece had no chance. Italian army was reordmga nising and couterattack . It would have taken longer but greeks were short of ammunitions by then. Greeks fought with heart in hand but still .....

All these Italian veterans tell a tale of heroism and victories yet we all know they were routed in Stalingard with over 120,000 dead.

@@icunowlibra Germans-239,000 dead. Romanians-160,000 dead. Hungarians-210,000 dead. Italians- 120,000 dead. All the Axis bros were routed in Stalingrad. Have you read the delightful tale of the 1st Alpini Regiment at Stalingrad?

Dear Sir: probably your knowledge of Italian is very poor since this veteran is not talking of victories or heroism. Just telling his experience of what he went through during the war.. Despite the fact that the Italian army was not routed in Stalingrad but way north…your knowledge of the experience of the Italian Army in Russia probably goes not beyond some bad Hollywood war film or still worse some of the supposedly academic rubbish written by English historians soon after the war , based on the propaganda war machine of the allies. Just imagine that British believed what Churchill told his MP ,namely that the turning point of the war was El Alamein where the whole British, empire routed 3 depleted German divisions and 8 Italians. This tells all, of what some people knows about the history of the second world war. If you are really interested in knowing an unbiased account Of the Italian Army in Russia I will give you a book written by a GERMAN ACADEMIC on the Italian experience in the east front “ INVASORI NON VITTIME LA CAMPAGNGNA ITALIANA DI RUSSIA BY THOMAS SCHLEMMER .Saluti

At Nikolajevka the soviets throw at us 1 million men, we had just the Tridentina division able to fight, all the rest was in such pitiful conditions that they just supported the Tridentina. Still, the Tridentins kicked in the ass the Soviets by herself and opened a way off for all those who were left behind by the Nazi. 1 million men against 18.000. The soviets had all their good tanks and guns, the Italians had just their rifles and some machine guns. No tanks. Some of them had even no boots. And still they kicked the soviets out of Nikolajevka. Alpini are not simple troops. They are proper tanks.
