We used the arrester hook to attach to a winch to pull it back into its HAS after it returned back to base. I also remember the hook being used to catch the arrester wire on the runway after a tornado had a hydraulic failure. New to your site so can’t wait to see this build. Hoping you use the 9 Sqn build as it was the 1st tornado squadron in the world.

Didn’t realise they were to be 9 sqn. 9 sqn used to have a bit of the Tirpitz hull in the pilots crew room as it was said who owned that bit of the hull between 617 sqn and 9 sqn could claim to have sunk the tirpitz.

We hated 9 Sqn when they were on Vulcan's. They always pissed about us Armourers. They once made a armourer line team stay up all night waiting to fit a cartridge counter measure dispenser to a Vulcan coming out of the hanger. The day shift did it in the end, tossers lol.

Hi Nigel Nothing to do with this video more the Lancaster, just been watching a documentary Night Bombers. 2009. Its is archive colour footage of a night raid in 1943, there are some great scenes of the Lancaster for reference, also great information, such as they changed the 4 x 303 guns in the rear turret for 2 x 50 cal this is shown in the documentary, don't know if you've seen it but well worth a look 👍

They are Tailerons on the back Nigel. Also the landing gear bays main and forward are the best detailed bays I’ve ever seen at any scale or even resin versions the wheels would actually fit if you wished to, The only problem it that the wing pivot centre on the wings where they don’t line up with the gloves pivot area. Oh and the pylon pivots are wrong they don’t pivot in some place as detailed on the upper wings. position. Those screws…… yep they are the same crap ones you know so well. LOL but it’s still a great model. Hope that helps.

Those would be tailerons Nige, elevons are on a delta wing. One thing I've found with Italeri kits is their ejector pin placement and size...terrible😖 This looks very well molded however (besides ejector pins) and looks like it will build into a very nice model. As always, a great review mate, thanks.😉👌👍

Looks a very nice kit Nigel, just ordered my copy off Ebay GR.4 1/32 scale for sub £100, looks a very good kit, nice panel lines and pretty impressive level of detail too. Got to build the 9 Sqn markings to sit along side my 1/32 scale 9 Sqn. Lancaster. Will have to clear some serious room for those two to sit. Its wierd to think that the Tornado entered service just after I joined the RAF and it retired a few years after me, makes me feel old. Anyway Nigel, keep up the excellent work, loving your vids. Best wishes from Bomber County....Dave

That RAF decal sheet is the one that comes with the 2513 edition of the kit - which as the instructions says its a straight GR4. I got this as I have a soft spot for the original 1/72 Airfix MRCA but it cost a lot more than the original which was about a quid from Woolies.

Looks like it'll make a very nice Tonka. I've built an F3 in 1/48 and a GR1 in 1/72 - Revell and Hasagawa respectively. Just might save my pennies for the GR4 - bujt only after the new Spitfire comes out in a few months.

One can never have too many Tonkas... I am just going to have to get one (or more) to keep my Revell 1/32 Tonkas company although the ECM was built in Germany and not Warton as the RAF never had the ECM (rather foolishly in my opinion). The "clam-shell" thrust reversers were common in the 60s, DC9, MD80, Bac 1-11 and Boeing 737-100 &-200 all having them and their notorious "clang" when activated. Arrester hooks were not fitted to Preston(Warton) built aircraft. Only German built variants had them.

Hmmm…local shop has had this on the shelf for a while and been tempted aside from the price, might have to see if a deal can be done as I like the Tornado and a build might be on the channel, I grabbed the Revell 1/32 Gulf War kit when I jumped back into the hobby…it’s still mostly in the box, in the garage…couldn’t get into it at all

Hi again, Nige. Can you do a dry fit of those kit seats? I cannot believe they would produce 2 ejection seats that supposedly do not fit into the cockpit tub.

On those wing screws don't screw them right in because I've made that mistake and wings now in full open position and look at the rear landing gear because the gap it slides into is to small it needs bit of fetling

Hi Nige, if you are going to do a GR4 say from Gulf War 2 2003? Then you don't need wing tanks, or any fuel drop tanks for that matter. 95% of the time, the wing tanks were only used to fly the plane out from UK to Saudi or wherever the forward operating base would be. For actual combat missions, they would not have flown with wing tanks fitted. Hope thats a bit clearer mate.
