I saw an innocent defendant testify in a criminal trial in which everyone including judge and prosecutor knew the defendant was innocent. He was given a nominal sentence, because the police must never lose a case. Needless to say, there is no parallel. I would think it’s a huge mistake for most criminal defendants to testify. In this case, the defense strategy of “none of this happened, it’s a witch hunt, I didn’t do anything wrong, whine, complain, rant” which will absolutely lock in a guilty verdict, especially if the jury sees in person what a raving lunatic he is.

The cross examination IF finished. Michael Cohen was the last witness to take the stand. Judge Merchan asked trump if he was going to testify. He said he was going home. While landing in FL, his plane ran into another plane. He's still alive. They don't know yet how much damage his insurance will pay for running into another plane.

In English law, the judge will directly ask the Defendant's counsel whether his or her client is going to give evidence. It is made absolutely clear in front of the jury that certain consequences may follow from the client's refusal to give evidence. And why not? If the client has nothing to hide, he or she should give evidence.

Let's face it. That monster won't see a day in jail, no matter how guilty
An honest or innocent man would take the stand. That alone disqualifies him from testifying. But hopefully his ego will take over.
My concern is that judges would admonish Trumps behavior but couldn’t bring themselves to jail a former President for witness intimidation and such but we expect 12 jurors to pull the trigger to send him to jail. It is much easier to say guilty when there are just fines involved or send an anonymous businessman to jail, but I fear the jury will balk to send a Former President to jail. That is a lot to ask of a normal person.

I'm sure one of the questions that was asked during their questioning and screening was, "could you send a former president to prison if he is found guilty?" Because if not they wouldn't have been picked as a juror.

Perry Mason never let any of his clients take the stand because he knew that cross-examination is a brutal experience. Trump wouldn't last five minutes before he was raving like a madman.

You're right. It's hard enough when you are telling the truth, I can only imagine that Trump would go to pieces so fast the jury would be hurt by the shrapnel.

Not a chance. If your lawyer is incompetent, you may have grounds for a legal malpractice suit against him or her. But, except in very rare cases, you bear the burden of your lawyer's mistakes.

It's bizarre watching these people, like Blanche and that weird guy who was on Ari Melber's show yesterday, act all shocked that Michael Cohen might have some hard feelings towards Trump.
