    I love black powder smoke. Compared to cap-n-ball revolvers, when I shoot bp through my Uberti Cattleman 1873 SAA, the gun gets really dirty and gums up after a dozen rounds. Fun video, thanks.

    If you're using full power loads( either smokeless or black) expands the cases more than cowboy or reduced power loads does. Makes a huge difference.

    I wonder if polishing the chambers would help. Hell, polish the cartridges too to get the best chance of having them drop out. Just a thought

    I think they may have polished the chambers on the cylinder for the movie. That, or they oiled the chambers while it was clean and then put smaller casings in for the scene.

    Greetings from Ireland. How about trying blank's as that's what they use in hollywood. Proper bullet cases would expand a bit. Love the videos.

    Hi Bernard, I agree. Hollyweird using blanks where the case won't stretch. Also, through film editing, they could have shot the cases dropping out using unfired resized brass.

    @@ssb73q Yes, Hollywood can be economical with the truth. Good point about the unfired brass.

    I imagine that cases for blanks would fall out easier due to not fire-forming and fully expanding the cases. I've shot A LOT of mild (Trail Boss) loads out of a Colt SAA and have to eject the vast majority of them. I imagine however, the blanks in the movie are extremely tapered and weighted to make them fall out quickly.

    Anyone coming on here and saying the Magnificent Seven dropout works needs to bring video proof. Arguements and conjecture don't hunt for people with iron in the holster. We like to see results. Edit: I have to disagree on the taste of the powder smoke, but that's just an personal preference nn Love the videos. Keep your powder dry, folks.

    I have 2 Colt SAA's in .44spl, they will drop out, but only with a full load of titegroup. That burns completely and doesn't blow powder residue into the Chambers. But no way will they drop out the way they did in the movie. If you do it at a "regular" pace. Polished chambers help.

    In 1873 this gun was state of the art. In 1860 the '60 Army was state of the art. In 1847 the Walker was state of the art. And each was better then its predecessor. 'Course, that all did change with the 1911, which in my opinion is the best handgun ever invented.

    I can 100% tell you that they do not fall out any different on a real colt. My colt made in 1882 ejects identical to your gun you're using. I have to use my ejector Rod quite often. Crazy Hollywood

    Hey Duke. What charge of BP did you use in your Schofields? I loaded just enough (roughly 25 gr FFFg) to get a bit of compression under a 250 g RNFP, with a cork, un-lubed wad between ball and powder. Shot pretty accurately with light recoil, but the smoke and probably the wad following the bullet made the Chrono readings way off.

    As you have already demonstrated in other videos, these Italian replicas aren't the highest quality of firearms. I've had hand channels so rough you could not reassemble the gun. These fun guns run best with some polishing and parts upgrades. I can see how a little honing of the cylinders would allow cases to just drop free. How it could effect accuracy wouldn't matter at 7 yards either. I love these revolvers, I own 5, but I have shot a brass-framed .44 until the fatal "frame stretch" killed it.

    I’m torn between the 7 1/2 inch barrel and the 5 1/2 inch barrel any tips on how to choose ? Does the longer barrel feel too big in the hand?

  • @hmpeter

    @hmpeter

    What do you want to do with it? Some prefer the shorter barrels for CAS. I have one in 5 1/2 for bullseye shooting. Would have loved the longer one, was not possible for me at the time because of local laws. It still is a beautiful gun, feels great and shoots quite accurate at the 27yrd range. The 7 1/2 feels better for my purpose to me though. A little more weight in the front helps with keeping the gun steady while aiming, and the longer sight radius helps too. Also looks better for me. The 5 1"2 is quicker to draw I guess. I'm not into that speed shooting stuff though and don't know how important that is. I'd probably go with the initial gut feeling if there was no really good reason to choose otherwise.

    @@tristanramos6060 Then let me reassure you that: a) you have a good estehtic taste and b) the 7 1/2" feels just fine. At least to me, very natural pointing ability and comfortable to hold. That's even the case with my 8" 1860 Army despite being a little more nose heavy. Colt's designers had it right with the ergonomics if you ask me. Have fun with the gun! :D
