IT WORKS! How To Treat Hip Pain At Home - Physical Therapy

How to treat lateral hip bursitis pain at home! The best stretches and exercises for outside hip pain demonstrated by a physical therapist to help you to feel better fast.
JARED'S STRETCH OUT STRAP: urlgeni.us/amzn/stretchoutstrap
WHAT IS HIP BURSITIS?
Your hip is a ball-and-socket joint. It is also the most mobile joint in the body. Because of its mobility there are many muscles that act to move and stabilize the hip joint.
A "bursa" is a fluid-filled sac that adds lubrication and decreases friction between bones and tendons. You have 2 bursa sacs in each hip to help them move easier.
Occasionally these sacs can become irritated and inflamed in a condition we refer to as "bursitis". This is characterized by pain on the outside (lateral) part of your hip right over the large boney prominence you can feel as you press on it.

==========================================================
WHAT CAUSES HIP BURSITIS?
The two major causes of hip bursitis pain are limited mobility and weakness. Either (or both) of these conditions can result in increased pressure on the bursa sac which then causes irritation and inflammation.
HOW TO TREAT HIP BURSITIS PAIN
Lateral hip bursitis pain is most-often treated conservatively with physical therapy including stretching and exercising. Rest, ice, and anti-inflammatory medications can also help. In severe cases injections into the hip bursa area are also an effective form of treatment.
HIP BURSITIS STRETCHES AND EXERCISES
The goal of exercise when treating hip bursitis is simple... stretch the structures that are tight and strengthen the structures that are weak.
Presented in this video are the most effective exercises for stretching and strengthening your hip thereby eliminating this bursitis pain. Keep in mind that all these exercises should be performed in a pain-free condition... if any of these increase pain in your hip you should stop performing them.
HIP PAIN AND HIP BURSITIS STRETCHES AND EXERCISES
3:54 Supine Lateral Hip Stretch
5:21 Piriformis (Figure 4) Stretch
6:06 Standing Hip Abductor Stretch
7:15 Clamshell
8:20 Sidelying Hip Abduction
9:20 Straight Leg Raise
10:20 Bridges
There you have them! Seven of my favorite exercises that you can do right at home to minimize hip bursitis pain and discomfort.
These are the same exercises I give to my physical therapy patients on a daily basis. I know they're incredibly effective at managing this hip pain and I hope you find them effective as well.
Thanks so much for watching! Be sure to LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, COMMENT, and SHARE and I'll be back again soon with a new video.

Update. I’ve been faithfully doing these & some from another of your w/o for hip pain now for 6 weeks and I want to thank you. I am 72 and have been reasonably active most of my life. However, for about 16 years I engaged in a pretty sedentary professional business. My only relief to my hip pain then I found in riding our horses in the summer. My hip pain worsened four years ago when we decided to move the horses to good homes while we had control. Not wanting surgery I started these exercises. It took five weeks but then I noticed I didn’t awaken during the night with searing hip pain and had to roll over. This has continued. Now I am hoping to find I can walk with out pain on the flat and eventually back to walking in the woods around our home with my husband and dog. I write this to thank you and also to let anyone else who is reading this that if you have been sedentary for a long time, it will take a while and you’ll feel stiff and somewhat sore in these muscles for a while. Don’t give up. I hope to write again when I discover that walking (not waddling) outdoors is something I can do without pain. Thank you so much for providing this wonderful service. I am grateful.

I’m 69 now and last year after training/entering a ‘Murph Challenge’ with my husband I was in a lot of pain. After seeing an orthopedic surgeon and going to 6 weeks of physical therapy I finally had some relief. I found your video and although some of your exercises are what I was doing in therapy others were not so I tried them. As long as I do these after exercising I am pretty much pain free! Thank you for offering this video on line! I’m sure it’s saved me from many more doctor visits and more therapy!!

@@toneandtighten I had a (R)THR in 2017 for a birth defect, which damaged the pectineus and the piriformis. 2 months later I had to have a spinal fusion and my pelvis is still rotated abnormally. I am unable to put my right ankle to my left knee, but am fully capable of W sitting, as I have my entire life. My muscles are extremely weak, but there does not seem to be anything to alleviate the pain or to strengthen the area. Would you recommend still attempting these exercises, even when it causes deep pain in joint area?

Awesome. 😊👍👍👍 I'm an avid hiker in my 70s. Started having this problem and dr. diagnosed bursitis and wanted to inject steriods into my hips. I'm not on any medications whatsoever and felt this would not be a cure but more of a bandaid needing to be repeated as needed. Did an internet search and found this video. All the stretches and exercises you demonstrated are easy to do and my hips felt better after the first session. I'll do this for a month and get back to you with results. Thank you so much for posting this. It is by far the best video I've found on this issue. Thanks again and you have a new subscriber. 😁

There is also a connection between the hip and ankle. Activating the posterior tibialis in flexion and getting it to push on the shin bone for knee bed instead of hyperextension changes the gate and this relieves many of these tightening patterns before they create the pattern of pain and grabbing int the trochanter area

I'm a 27 years old from Iraq, I have ball and socket joint problem on my hip, it is a birth defect I was born like that. After many years of pain on both my legs and doctors made me hopeless, I still didn't give up and always searched for a way to make my walking better at least. Finally I found this video and I have been doing these exercises for 5 months and can't believe the results!! My leg didn't regrow as normal of course but at least I can now walk for longer distances without problems, even doing squat exercises. I can't thank you enough, may god bless you 👏🏻 And remember! you are a life changer. Best regards.

Jared your explanation is point on & the stretches do help. My question to you is that I am 48 years of age and about 5 months ago I started running. I graduated to a 5k distance over a period of 8 weeks and then started increasing to 10k. It’s at this point I started getting hip pain. I hired a running coach who sent me to a chiropractor and he diagnosed me with mild arthritis in my hip with restricted movement. Is that a good diagnosis? After I do my long runs of 12-15k once a week I am in pain for nearly 4-5 days. I want to continue running but the pain is severe. Do you believe regular workouts which you have shown will eliminate the pain entirely? I want to run a marathon a year from now.

Hey sir, I know I'm late to the party, but what works best for injury prevention is adapting really slow. Let's say you can run a 10k in 1 hour, instead of every workout giving max effort to reduce that time, or trying to increase the distance every week, just go easier (let's say a 6k in 36min), then do it for a nice weekly volume and repeat for about three months, even If you can go for much more, this way you're making your tendons adapt, then you can have a period where you increase the speed, distance or volume; but try an easier version of your workouts and do it for 3 months, let your tendons adapt and also stretch n' physio exercises help a lot. Hope you get better:)
