Thanks Barry! Those instructions are pretty easy to follow. Just a bit of fiddling with the return spring and nyloc nut to really get it good and dialed in.

Love it as much as you do ! Thanks for sharing it with us. I was in there one week ago. But I didn't check the cam adjustment as you did. At first, it seems very complicated. But it's mechanic. As long as you can see someone doing it like you do, it's finally not that complicated. I'd say the 990 was probably the best tractor David Brown built. At least for the engine.

Reading about it (several times in my case) and seeing someone do it are two entirely different things. That's the whole reason I started videoing this stuff. Other than Barry's channel, there wasn't any detailed videos on the hydraulics and I wanted to make the attempt. The old saying a picture's worth a thousand words is right! You're right in that the 990, at least mine, is a great tractor. My grandfather treated it like a bulldozer with a blade on the back, so it's seen some pretty heavy abuse over the years. Hopefully I can keep her running for another 50 years. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

A Wonderful Video. I’m in Pennsylvania USA. Grew up on a farm in Ireland. DBs. A 990 & a 1200. Only Tractors he ever used. Fond Memories but should have learned from him. Anyway. I Have a 770A. And a 1212 now. I know I have to do this to the 770. Not sure about the 1212. Now I Know I can do it. Thank You. 🙏. A new cable is one thing I need

Thanks Tom! Reading how to do it in service manual or document is great and all, but a picture (or video) is worth a thousand words! This video is really why I wanted to start a channel. Take Ollek's instructions on the Group 3 adjustments and do them while videoing it. For my own reference later on down the years (or my kids) and for others who need the same thing. And maybe a little comedy along the way :-) Thanks for the comments Tom, you're awesome!

Thanks a bunch Jon! There’ll be a few more vids about the hydraulics I think, but maybe spaced out a bit more. My weekends are getting booked up! I’ve also got a power assist steering cylinder on this thing that leaks like it’s made of Swiss cheese. Need to get resealed, and never done that so thinking about videoing if I can find someone to point me in the right direction.

Thanks so much for the video. Trying to restore my late dad's tractor in Fiji Islands, can't get much parts here, so I mostly have it Shipped from USA and Australia. Can u plz tell me what website if any has good repair manuals, mostly for hydraulic? I downloaded 2, but they don't have all these details.

Hi there and thanks for commenting! Wow, Fiji! I've seen pictures/video of that place and it's beautiful. These details I went over in this video are related to the instructions Ollek wrote up on the David Brown Tractor Club website. dbtc.co.uk/?page_id=1644 The instructions I used here in this video are those instructions, just rewritten a bit for readability. The service manuals I go by are the ones I go over in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z6KNysqRiNOtdto.html and have served me very well. For questions though, I tend to use the David Brown Tractor Forum dbtc.co.uk/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=1 I use the forum a good bit to fill in what I have questions on with the Service Manuals and getting the experienced advice from experts on these tractors. Barry's channel @manfromthemist1958 and Lance's channel @BundyBearsShed are also treasure troves of information and knowledge.

@@path.of.discovery Sad part is few guys kind of knew about setting it up around here, but none wanted to share their knowledge. I looked up KZread last yr not much info on hydraulic came up, but now thanks to u guys iam working on it now. Resealed the injection pump, it don't leak anymore, put new clutch in it, runs great, but just hydraulic issues left. Finally measured the oil pump pressure and its showing around 900 psi. At that pressure it's barely lifting empty. Have ordered a new pump from USA, should be here soon and hopefully get my hydraulic working good again, then I'll move to paint.

@@jaykamal1978 I come from the camp of sharing information is good. builds community, and helping others is a good thing. Same for me with regard to youtube. Once Barry started up his 'man fromthemist' channel, that inspired me to start videoing the things I'd wanted to see on youtube. I'm hopeful others with these tractors will put out videos or lend their advice and experience on the forum. I'm glad that some of what we're doing with these videos is helping!

Thanks for your vids Shane, helping me with my 880 hydraulics rebuild. One thing I've noticed is that I can move the selector to depth/height/tcu without moving the quadrant lever back against the spring, Looking inside the cover behind the selector I can see that moving the selector does move the internals between three different positions (regardless of whether the quadrant lever is pushed back against the spring or not) Maybe the selector's been forced? Could this lead to other problems?

Mine is/was the same, at least before I knew to move the lever back against the spring to change the selector lever. I always now pull the lever back against the spring to change the mode. There's a risk of breaking stuff if the lever's not moved back against the spring. Thanks for watching!

Do you have any info on bleeding the air out of the hydraulics? I can only find vague information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 990 selectamic

Hi again. Seems like my mechanical has succeeded by just tightning up the lever handle. I looked at it and felt like I put the friction plate inverted. But I was wondering ??? Hope I will not look too stupid here... I locked up the hydraulic linkage up. Main reason : I'm not using it and cylinder seems to leak a bit because it's getting down after a period of time. By doing so, I know that cylinder shaft is no longer pushing to lift it. I just thought it may have been related to the fact that lever handle was suddenly loose. Again, I'm not a mechanic and certainly not an engineer. Sometimes simple things are jumping to your eyes without seeing them.

I thought I had a problem when I was out using the tractor and I'd locked the arms in the up position and forgotten! Happens to us all I guess! Great to hear about the success!

Hi Shane, I do like this talking walking maintenance manual that you are. Have not fitted the nylon block yet. I just have lift arms that go up. They really don't like to go down. You may have seen on Instagram I had a problem with the steering not turning right. Well I haven't been to grate health wise lately so I took the simplest way. I can now turn full left and right and it's as light as a feather. Should get the Bridgeport up and running tomorrow. Brother in law is coming over to help put it together. Can you tell me the length of the spacers on the rod from front to back please. I might find them but if i don't I can make more. M 😀

Having problems with our tractor David Brown tractor normally my husband would take care of these issues but sadly he passed away from covid. The tractor has been parked outside for a couple weeks this summer went to move it it would not move forward or reverse. Hydraulics-bucket works. It has been 3 months. Yesterday I tried getting it to move it wouldn't, again I played with high/low gears. Shifted into the low the tractor seemed like it wanted to move forward. I turned the steering wheel back and forth and put the foot throttle down and it moved a couple of inches, did this several times and it finally moved but extremely slow not enough to get going. I would stop and I'd repeat turning steering wheel/wheels and it would slowly 🐌 go again. I kept doing this and was fortunate enough to get it parked back in the shop. Any ideas on what is wrong? Any help/information would be greatly appreciated 🙏 Thank you

Condolences for your loss. I don't have any real advice for you on this issue. I've not experienced this kind of problem before. Maybe an issue with the clutch? Oh no! A broken spool valve is not good. The spool valve for the Valve Chest in these Selectamatic tractors is match ground to the bore and not replaceable. You'll need an entirely "new" Valve Chest, either from a tractor breaker local to you or by contacting Barkley Williams. Barkley Williams in the United Kingdom reconditions Valve Chests for these Selectamatic tractors. Highly recommend calling or emailing them. Here's the website: www.barcleywilliams.co.uk/
