Depends, have you not heard of the "there's no smoke without fire" expression? heck, there often doesn't even need to be the smoke for some people to think the worst. Then there is the personal embarrassment that might result, and sometimes reporting it may self-incriminate regarding other related crimes. That said, NOTHING coming from trump's side has weakened the prosecutuion's assertion that the "hush money" was not paid through legitimate means. The money, itself, would seem to be perfectly legal, if questionable morally.

Consider this: New York law has a maximum of $1000 or 30 days jail time for contempt. Now that he's done that, however, he has *technically* broken a law while out on bail in the other three criminal trials... and this one. Any of the judges could put him in jail until trial at any point if the prosecution brings that motion forward. Smith has a good chance in DC, but Florida will probably dismiss out of hand. Willis probably has a good shot for this as well. They likely won't make a move until after this trial is over, though. Don't want to step on any toes.

Anything that represented a perceived threat to Trump's image would have been first on his mind, because his image is his 'brand', and his lifeline to fame.
