I read Mort after you recommended it on your 12 Decades of Christmas sequence, and I really enjoyed it. My son then bought me Guards Guards for my birthday in January, so you've now encouraged me to get it off the shelf. I might make it my next read.

Oh yay, I'm so glad you enjoyed Mort! Your son has excellent taste, hope you like this one as well.
One of my favourites (I have them all). Thank you for the great review and reminder, I am going to start a Discworld reading marathon again.
This was a fantastic review, even though I read this one early last year you've definitely added to what I've been able to take away from this book!
Excellent review of this book! His discussion on monarchy in the Discworld series definitely takes a lot of turns. Most notably in The Fifth Elephant (city watch book five) do we see a more favorable portrayal of monarchy. The female characters and discourse on gender/sexism in that book are phenomenal, too.
Definitely my favourite sequence - it has overtaken the witches sequence for me in recent years but really there isn’t much in it as I love both sequences. Thoroughly enjoyed the recent re-read of this. Such a well crafted story! This sequence is probably his most political given the setting, as he explores political ideologies through both the Patrician and Vimes. Great review of a brilliant book!

Thank you for reading it with me! It really was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to getting to more of that sequence.

This was my first Pratchett book and I loved it! You will *not* be disappointed by other books in the City Watch sequence. They get more political than simply musing on monarchies (particularly 'Nightwatch' in my opinion). Thank you for your review!
I'm sold. I've never read Pratchett, but I'm going to pick up this one and give it a shot. From your description I think I will have a lovely time reading it.

I hope you enjoy it! Pratchett certainly isn't for everyone, but if you click with his writing, there's a whole new (flat round) world to discover.
This is my favourite sequence and Vimes is definitely Sir Terry’s best written character. For me at least.
Ciao Claudia Tantissimi auguri ❤
I love this book but, at least in this book, this is about the Night Watch (minor spoiler)
Oh dear! Do you really have the entire sequence not read yet? I actually envy you, so much fun awaits!

Looking forward to it!
You're very pretty but one time It was late I seen you're thumbnail and got scared I thought it was a ghost you're so light
Definitely he was political, even if he wasn't, all art is political whether consciously or not. Which others have you read so far?
