In before one of you smartarses points out two errors in the video: 1. Carmilla is not set in a fictional country but in fact in the Austrian state of Steiermark - to be fair, I had no idea that was translated into English as Styria. I definitely should have considered English speakers' natural aversion to using place names in their original language. 2. I mistakenly called the protagonist of Agnes Grey "Anne" at one point. I have no excuse for that one.

(Melanie here) I loved I Capture The Castle by Dodie Smith which Kate Howe recommended. I really enjoyed Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, too. I remember liking Agnes Grey when I read it, but it's been quite a few years. I will check out the other two - thank you!

Dear Claudia, thank you for consistently pitching I Capture the Castle to us. I've finally read it and it is truly wonderful, though left me pretty sad. Thanks again and please go on with this!

I'm so glad to hear it! I've actually just started rereading it after putting it off for years thinking I might not love it as much on a second read. Loving it so far though I also remember being disappointed by the ending. Either way, I expect I'll make a review video when I'm done because despite banging on about this book forever, I've not actually reviewed it yet.

Great recs! I’m 40 and there really wasn’t a YA category when I was young. I did read the Uglies series in my early 20s though.

Yeah it only really took off about 20 years ago, at least where I grew up.

Excellent video, Claudia. Your synopsis of each book is just right-enough information to tantalize without giving anything away.

Thank you so much! I'm so happy you liked those summaries - they're always the hardest part to write for any recommendations or review video.

I read the YA in the title and thumbnail as the slang for 'you' and 'your' "Classics for ya fans!"

But aren’t smartarsecomments what pushes the engagement in the comment section? 🤓 So I guess I am a YA fan because I love quite a few of your recommendations.
