I made my own container home and made my utility room from opening the container doors and welding a floor and roof between them. Very simple, very easy and a little off the ground. You can then easily get into your ceiling. Hope that helps, been watching your progress for years. I love your ingenuity and work ethic.

I like Harvey's idea of opening up the container doors and putting a utility room there. Would have room for washer/dryer, water heater, brooms, vacuum, etc and also have windows to let the light in. With a basement, there are moisture and mildew problems that could permeate into your living space and the possible need for a french drain. Seems like much less work/expense to add on above ground.

I have a remote cabin...when kids came we built a separate bunkhouse, as the kids got older what a blessing for them top have their own space, the main cabin became more functional....the main cabin is a 16x24 with bedroom loft, the bunkhouse is 10x20....works out so nice!

What about getting a second shipping container and connecting it to make an L shape cabin with decking in between? It would be a lot of work for a vacation cabin but as your kids grow it might be nice to have that little bit extra space for the family. Just an idea.

Personally, I'd build a small cellar with a trap door to underneath the cabin, for both storage accessible from the inside, and safety when do do happens...lol 😂😅 Love ya'll ❤️ P.S. Hi, I have been doing research on parasites, and have learnt that a lot of diseases are caused by parasites. MS is one of those diseases. Try doing a parasite cleanse and see what happens. Don't buy over the counter dewormer as it is not adequate. A good health shop or Naturapath could provide a proper parasite cleanse.

Go with a basement. A well dug and moisture sealed basement will give you lots of options. And being underground the temperature should be fairly stable, so you could store some food items like the fruit from all your trees. Also if you have a garden do some home canning, that will store well in a basement. It may be an expense but worth the money.

But yes a basement on a mountain not good, you'd end up having to get some dynamite to blast out the rock lol but that could be fun in itself haha...I think your making the right choice by doing the extension. Here in Canada we can get smaller like a 10x10ft shed container which if its possible where you are placing your cabin you could dig out on the end and place the 10x10 container in the ground and put the cabin on top with concrete block foundation for the rest kinda like a walk out basement idea. You could then run all your wiring and water up into the container inside the wall. Its still quite a hole but if its open like a walk out basement you should be able to accomplish this with your current tractor equipment.

A vent system in the bathroom is always a good thing, especially when your stomach is upset and speech isn't necessary to tell you so. It's is a o'my g-d moment. lol. The first vent will be good to move the air and heat from front to back of the trailer, which will help in cooling in the Summer and heating in the Winter. The both of you are Superstars in my book. New idea: How about getting a second container and making it your basement? In other words have one container underneath the cabin. I think your bump out idea is good, but you are going to need way more space. I thought you were building a basement. I think I heard a quick mention about it a while back. Ya’ know….thinking about more room now for your growing kids is a wise idea to think about. It may be worth the expense now to build the basement. When your kids become teenagers you will be SO happy you did. Enjoy your videos and laughter and building SO much. God bless you!!❤

As expensive as it would have been a concrete basement would have been a great idea for storage as well as what you planned.

As soon as you said basement, I immediately thought of just dropping a shipping container down in a hole and stacking that one on top! But I can see how relocating all that dirt would be a lot of work. I’d say widen your road with it all, but that’s just me. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and happy new year!!😊❤

It might be smart to build a storm shelter under or near the cabin. And a garage to hopefully protect your vehicle.

My wife and I love your videos - keep up the great work! Everyone has a suggestion, so here is mine. I would recommend a 20 ft container connected off the back with either a hallway (advantage would be you could put two bedrooms in it), and put all the utilities back in the original container with the expanded barn-door area. The advantage here would be you are only running electrical into the new container. Alternatively, you could tee the container between the windows, but this would only allow for one bedroom, because of the narrow containers and the need for a hallway. All utilities would need to be run through the container. Happy New Year!

They do make 8x8 foot cube containers that can go behind and it could be very well insulated allowing enough room for water and electric. It would allow a safety factor when one uses lithium batteries.

one thing to consider is a heat sink wall. If the outside wall of the util shed faces towards the sun a lot make it a concrete block or concrete pour wall. this way the sun heats that wall all day and at night the heat releases inside the building. Also, if you line the room with foil back insulation panels the heat inside will not get released as much and be retained inside better. if you paint the outside wall of the shed black it will absorb heat better too. I have an underground house that I have zero need to heat and cool because the earth maintains the temp at a nice level. the sun on the outside front greenhouse heats the place easily. the house is almost 10,000 sq feet underground. No util bills at all. Well is on the property and geo tubes cool easily.
