It's time to wean our Cheviots.... and a few rogue ewes
In this video we were weaning our Cheviot and blackie ewes. We pulled off all the lambs first and then split the ewe lambs out to go to different grass.
The ewe lambs will be kept for the winter and most will be used in our own flock.
The boys / wedder lambs will be fattened up and eventually go to market where they are generally sold to supermarkets / wholesale meat buyers.
We use the Rappa handling system here as it's fast to setup and easy to use for a simple shedding job.

ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZread and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

😂😂 I love to see sheep and lambs jumping, and springing all 4 feet in the air. Happy to be out on the grass ❤
All of you work so hard. So, it's a true never-ending job. God bless you all.
I think some of those lambs were try out for dreamland!!! Counting sheep! Lol Thank you for sharing your little jumpers.

What's really funny is the lambs jumping over absolutely NOTHING!
As a spinner and knitter, I am deeply grateful for what you do. I have romantic notions about the wonderful properties of wool, and how cute sheep are, but really, it is HARD work, keeping sheep. Thank you for keeping on! ❤
Thanks for sharing, Cammy. I especially enjoyed you sharing your thoughts on selecting breedstock. Looking forward to how that progresses.
Beautiful scenery. Glad to see Angus has you all we supervised!
Cheviots (right? These ones) have especially graceful faces and lovely pretty ears. I was shaking my head while you were sorting them, I wouldn't be able to do a dog's work at a farm, but you just sorted them three ways effortlessly. It sounds silly, but that swift sorting - wow. And I like the sheep trailer. I feel like a slack-jawed kid standing outside your farm fence watching you work in awe. You have a great team, my respects to you all.

As a former small Cheviot n Highland rancher in California- I appreciate: the proper sheep equip, good workin’ dogs and your endless energy! You do shepherds around the world proud! Keep it up!
The leaps off the truck are hilarious.
Great ewe lambs, the 2 ladies are great workers and the 2 collies also, can't beat the help.
That was really cool, seeing how you set up the trailer!
Thanks for sharing all that you do with us!! You guys work so hard!!

Great video Cammy. Also I don’t think I’ve ever seen how the trailer levels are set up in the time I’ve been enjoying your journey, it was a sight to behold. I’m very excited about your idea of measuring ewe quality based off rams used. Looking forward to whatever you decide.

Hi Cammy and Lizzy and your babies. Angus is so cute and getting big now. Look at the little ewes hopping about🤣
Amazing how they have grown and are now out on their own those lambs! Thanks Cammy.❤️🇦🇺🏴
Working those gates in the pens to sort the lambs is an art in itself Cam 👍
Always work to do on a farm. I didn't realize that the two level trailer was able to be converted back to single or double.
You've got to have The bailer twine. It the main tool on any farm.

It was interesting to see how you transformed the trailer to two levels - I’d always wondered how that happened! 😉 Good looking batch of sheep. You’re such diligent shepherds! 👍🏼

I never realized you can convert the trailer to two levels and back again. Too cool. But it looked like getting out might endanger the family jewels. lol
Love your videos Cammy. You and Lizzie work so hard with the sheep, shearing and raising the boys, doing videos and attending events. I truly don’t know how you do it but I appreciate all of it. Cammy how do you and Lizzie decide which direction to go in year to year, do you have a business or financial planner? Your boys are so handsome and it’s wonderful to see them out there with you both. ❤❤
I always wondered how the trailer was changed between one level and two.

Could you visit a farm and do an episode on Loaghtan sheep? There's a Manx society to protect them and try to make sure they don't die out. They're the most beautiful reddish brown.

Catching up on videos. When does your winter start ? And is winter rainy or snow or a combo ?
Another great educational video Cammy. 👍 I've been meaning to ask a question for some time now but, I just kept forgetting so. here goes now that I've remembered. Why do you and other sheep farmers have so many different breeds of sheep, and why don't you just stick to one or maybe two breeds? Thanks in advance Cammy. 🐑🐑
@TheSheepGame

Great question!! I suppose my answer is I buy the sheep I can afford not the sheep I want 😅. With Lizzy’s new ground we will be keeping just one breed of sheep. 👍
😊
👍
Cammy have you ever considered having the sheep dipped? I was watching Sheep Shepard the other week and he had a mobile dip truck come to his farm and all his sheep were done within an hour or so.

Yeah we dip every year. I have the same type of wagon coming next week we’ll do a vlog 😁
Cheviots have always been my favorite breed, pretty, hardy and Northumbrian. What more could you want? 😊
Great little video...felt like I'd done a little work myself! Did your boy take a tumble and widen his nose a bit? You're having lovely weather for this time of year, hard for insects but great for grass! I'm dealing with a dog been in with the sheep, vet bill, etc....how is it people think you can let dogs run loose where livestock graze? Madness of Modern Life!

You've made me curious now: when you add the new 80 to your existing 64 ewe lambs, do they flock together straight away, or do they need to suss each other out first? Any stress whilst they sort out a pecking order? (I've seen videos of cows getting quite violent when working out who's leading the herd). Thanks.
Do you have tree swallows in your area? Greg judy Regenerative Farmer has information on how he uses them for fly control
Hey Cammy, the aluminium fences that you use for catching the sheep, where did you get those? I've got more square ones, but they keep getting stuck on the grass/ground when trying to drag them closed behind the sheep!

Had to laugh when it the closed captions changed "old ewes" to "old jews". I just imagined his accent and it was hysterical. Please do not be offended by the term, I meant no harm. Its not a term I would use,but one my patents' generation would have. If it had referred to my own ethnicity or religion, I would also think it was comical! So dont come at me please.

Hey guys! Speaking of ‘weaning’… “ANSEL” would be a cute little baby boys name.😬 Hint hint. 👶 Isn’t Lizzy getting baby fever again yet??? I just picture you guys with a full farm of little lambs…er, I mean little babies. When I see those little angels of yours…I can’t help but want you guys to have more.🤷🏻♀️❤️ Besides, in one video, maybe a few months back, I swear I saw Lizzy just standing still there, for like a solid 5seconds straight. It was brief…but I caught it. And I just thought- well dang, that’s a lot of time she *could be using chasing a 3rd little toe head around- in between the millions of other tasks she’s always doing😳I mean, No use in allowing those few seconds to waste. Ok, I won’t bug anymore. (In THIS video that is). 😋 You guys are such an amazing family… Def. My favorite young fam on here (tho admittedly I think you’re thee *only ones I sub to). But still…if I DID sub to others…YOU guys would still be my favorite out of ALL of them, hands down! As usual…I pray for you often. If you ever need extras tho, I’m regards to something in particular…just lmk and l’ll fold my hands into the SUPER DUPER praying position. It’s even more powerful than my regular prayers (I KNOW RIGHT?!) since it has more of an objective🥰 ✌️ 🙏✝️❤️
