    I've bought a few loads of logs recently and there has been quite a bit of beech on them. One driver told he there is something killing the beech trees so you might start seeing more and more of it. It's great wood. Smells a lot like maple, splits easy, not stringy at all and has one of the highest BTU ratings of all of the different species. Dave in Ontario, Canada

    When I was doing firewood I had 2 loggers bring wood in who had there own knuckleboom loader on there trucks and 1 who had a cable hoist on his single axle truck so I had 3 loggers total. They would bring even the ones that had metal in them and I take a metal detector to find the metal. I plan on getting back into firewood and have a track hoe I can unload with until I can find me a knuckeboom loader. Have a great day be safe

    I think part of the secret to keeping a good log supplier is taking logs when the supplier has them, not just when you need them or can afford them, once the relationship has developed then you can be a little more specific. Nice of Jesse to re arrange your logs, I mean, he didn’t ‘have to’ do that, great guy! You have a good business partner there Joe.

    Jessie needs to run a coil of his hydraulic return line under that seat of his. That'll warm him up. I think for the few beech or special logs that you get it might be worth it to just have Jessie throw them off to the side. After he is gone you could cut them to 13' long ( so they end up right size for your splits) then use you tractor to pile them in an unused corner out of the way until you are ready to process them? This is what I do with logs I intend to mill. I do the same thing with crooked logs, I set them aside and hand cut them instead of making a mess on a nice pile of straight logs. This spring I'm planning to redo my whole wood yard to make it more efficient to stack logs and load the processor.

    How much does it cost for a truck full of logs and how much can you turn a truck full of logs into as firewood?

  • @ohiowoodburner

    @ohiowoodburner

    4 ай бұрын

    I am rebelling against accounting so I'm not able to give you the amortization/depreciation schedule for the machines in each cord. At a high level a truck like this costs anywhere between $650--$800. Prob need about 1 gallon of diesel to turn into firewood, and $20 to stack. I get about 6 cords of firewood from each truck.

    Thanks for subbing BIB. The logs I buy are usually too small to take the the mill. This is all part of my business model as I can make firewood cheaper than what I can buy it for but I still buy firewood believe it or not. It is just a good decision to have these relationships and a second source for my product. It cuts into my margin but still something I find useful to growing my customer base

    Hi Mike. It is the super splitter. www.supersplit.com/ There is an amish company in ohio that makes a similar one called the Flack Hill. Excellent machine but they don't have a web site or a phone. You have to go see them. They are around Wooster. Most the amish my way run them. You could buy it and take it home with you that day
