It's this EASY to hack your smart home | Which? Investigates

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The average British home has 10 smart devices: but are yours vulnerable to hack attacks? We set up a "home" filled with smart devices and asked our friends at NCC Group to conduct a hack in real time.
Security vulnerabilities put you at risk to burglary, identity theft and data loss so it's crucial to ensure your devices are secure.

Set a firewall on your router. Many of these external attacks can be mitigate before they can even reach your devices.

433MHz licence free says it all. If you must have an alarm use a wired one with Central Station facilities.

You've missed one absolutely key action. Ask yourself if the risk is worth the convenience. It may be nice to be able to talk to your home, but do you really need to? People for hundreds of years have managed without that. It's significant that those who know most about communications technology are the ones least likely to have such devices in their homes.

Absolutely - this was our closing question: do you *really* need every device to be connected to the internet? A good question to ask yourself when shopping for a new kettle!

Re the discarded smart doorbell, surely changing the home wifi credentials would be a lot simpler?

Not if you had several other devices and you've forgotten how to re-register them.

Couldn’t you just unplug your router if you were in the midst of having your smartphone hacked.
