Love seeing the big stuff...its just so different from the smaller units....even if the concepts are the same.

This commercial stuff is really cool. I did residential HVAC for a couple years so it's nice to see what else is out there and see how it's similar and also different.

The basics of refrigeration are the same but the controls are very different.

I like the commercial videos because I like the diagnosis and descriptions of the various system types. I wish these systems self isolated the bad circuit upon refrigerant loss and used vibration insulators at clamps near compressors. So much needless refrigerant loss!

Looks like a few old enviroguard style racks.. gotta love working on the old stuff. Where I work, it's either these style of racks or hussmann protocol racks

Yeah I don't think we'll ever get co2 around here anytime soon. I'm not sure I care, I know nothing about it and it sounds like it's a little more complicated.

This video is a great example of how sometimes you can't always do it by the book. Sometimes it's just time to go and that's just the way it is. Get it done and get it up and running.

Let's see how many tear me apart for doing what I did. I don't think it'll ever break at that same spot, I've had times where I've made my own 90s and had it break there so there are times when a coupling would do better but there's times where I try to go 100% and end up making it 10 times worse.

Reminded me of Ollie when you were walking thru the store. 😁👍

I didn't think it was that bad but I should have put in hearing protection. I already have tinnitus.

Maybe there was something else going on but I think I would have closed the suction service valve and mid seated the discharge service valve instead of burning in a stub.

Love the big gear ! Reminds me of my supermarket days. That noise is hard to explain to someone. The rumble gets you right through

Personally I enjoy the rack stuff, the big rtu’s and the steam boilers too not too many channels putting out that kind of content.

The discoloration on your rosebud tip is a sure sign that you are not flowing enough gas. Just like the back firing you were experiencing. A #15 tip is rated at minimum rated for flowing 10 scfh acetylene, an MC tank is rated 1.5 scfh flow. American Welding Society says tank capacity in cubic foot divided by 7 is safe flow rate. B tank is 40cf divided 7 is 5.7 cfh, still low for a #15 rosebud, but much better, often enough for intermittent use. The victor handle helps with the flow rate, probably less restriction inside, but B tanks and larger regulators are need to even approach the needed flow rate.

Number 15 is what I've got that you've seen, now I have had it in my bag and it was kind of green looking and I ran my wire brush wheel on it to make it look clean again. But I did have my regulator set at 10 and 12 I believe from what was on the instruction sheet from the manufacturer. I spent some time on the phone with the manufacturer when this first happened and did everything they mentioned but nothing worked, the length of the center connection is a little bit longer on uniweld versus Victor and I think the gas was mixing in the handle causing the problem. This is rated to go down to as little as a quarter inch up to two and seven eighths. Thanks for the info

Love that tip. The #15 is my "all in one". I run it on the Victor handle with settings of 7/11. Never had any issues. Love that tip tho. Nice work. That ball valve just before the separator is awesome. Wish more people did that. I always end up having to add one after I need it.

I think what he’s saying is you can only draw off a certain amount of acetylene from the tank if you draw off too much with too big a tip you get liquid acetone coming out the tip

@@BrickTop900 I wondered if that was what he meant. I told uniweld what size tank I was using🤷. They said it was ok but who knows. I don't do 30 fittings at a time so that's probably how I'm getting away with it. Generally I might run my torch for a couple minutes then I'm done.

Nick, the over and under technique is something I learned from the audio engineer at college, and have taught it to others. Incidentally, it's the same technique that mountain climbers use for their own safety. My foreman at work asked me to do this to a 3" sandblasting hose for a food products silo. It worked well, and most importantly, the hose didn't twist.

@@HVACRSurvival that's precisely how I learned. Plugging the ends together helps to eliminate this. Otherwise, you can get a knot every 3 feet if not diligent in the procedure.

I like all videos of repair and trouble shooting, as should everyone. never know when you may run into the same issue, commercial or not, I have seen plenty of residential with superstrut and clamps, holding everything from conduit, water, sewer, hvac lines and more.

really like that video , remind me of the school years when i was doing electrical maintenance , had a room full of ventilation system and it was quite noisy also but really cool to hear them working !

The bigger stuff is the good stuff😍. Great video. If you have problems with the olie boiling og pressure rising, when braising, connect your vacuum pump. Works like a charm. I know you couldn't do that at the beginning, because there was no valve. Keep up the good work.

It's been a challenge for sure, I was never shown how to really use the controller or how to find things. I had to figure that out on my own but every now and again somebody throws me a bone and I learned something new. Thanks for the support! I'm glad you enjoyed it

If you're not having it go out and pop backwards on you then you're fine, for whatever reason mine did not fit down in the socket of the handle as fully as it should have. When I lay the tips inside guts beside the two, one's longer than the other by maybe a 16th of an inch.

I miss that sound 👂of the motor room ✊🏾

Nothing like the drone of all those recips chugging along. So much more interesting than the standard resi and package unit stuff. Dumb question (I'm not an HVAC guy)- in an installation like that where there are so many loops, wouldn't it be simpler and require less refrigerant to have 1-2 small screw chillers and run glycol loops instead?

@@HVACRSurvival That's too big of a tip, even for a B tank. I was looking into getting a 2-MFA-J for my Victor setup, but even a size #2 rosebud is too big for an MC tank. A size 0 tip can do up to 1". A size 2 can do up to 1.5 inch. Yes rosebud is better for heating large fittings, but the Cuft per hour is too much for even a B tank. You can get rosebud tips for the Victor J series handle your setup came with, just need to be the -J series.

Sure it's going to drain the tank quickly, but I'm not doing large pipes all the time so it can be throttled down to as little as a quarter inch.

@@HVACRSurvival Don't starve the tip. A good way to see if you're starving the tip, is get a good neutral flame going how you like it, then cut off all the oxygen. If you get a big smoky flame, and all those little nasty strings of soot flying thru the air (we've all done it) then it's not enough fuel for the tip. A good rule of thumb is turn up the fuel just enough to clear the soot and smoke from the flame, then add oxygen. That avoids popping and flashbacks etc.

Again you did a great job when you're heating that pipe it look like you were Popeye the stem was having smoked just like his pipe so I guess your Popeye the sailor Man. You did a great job you're in you're out you didn't everything you needed to didn't waste any time and you did safely! Keep up the great work

Rick, you should of have close the suction valve and oil valve and left the discharge mid sitted on the one compressor to let any refrigerant out of the discharge header. I just thought I share that with you.

amzn.to/3rzita1 I don't know if the exact one I have is made anymore, I've had that for over 22 years. This one made by Yellow Jacket looks about identical and is capable of pumping against 200 psig of pressure in the system. It actually pumps more oil per stroke than mine does.

Great video, Rick! Question at 9:42, what’s that loop of 1/4” or 3/8” copper wrapped around the discharge header doing? Some kind of weird temp sense or something?

I'd have to recheck I'm not 100% sure now, it's been a while since I've looked, I believe it was for one of the solenoid valves or three-way valves? They did that when they updated the condensers.

Those were all Copeland compressors. Copeland is very popular here. One of their factories is here in Ohio.

I think people enjoy seeing different equipment, People complain about this ? How many capacitors and blocked drains do you guys need to see . At this point, I think my dog can check a capacitor and unblock a drain .

Don't think you have to apologize for anything you did. So much oil in piping with refrigerant boiling off no need to pull vacuum. We work in real world, not a textbook. You repaired it, charged it up, topped off charge, backon line. What more could you ask for overtime call on a freezer!

Tony -I have heard that was what the inverted trap is for at the condenser. I haven't done it yet.

Residential and my commercial was no big deal but I do dread the industrial and grocery store on call and that's what I'm on now. You got to take the good with the bad, like right now it's 6:08 and I'm just about home. My day didn't go very good on a locchnvar boiler 🤦🏻
