It's Remote, it's Wild, but absolutely BEAUTIFUL // EP.55

We are Overlanding in one of the most remote areas on this planet, Kaokoland in Namibia. It is a paradise for all that want to get remote and experience an untouched wilderness. IT IS STUNNING.
We travel all the way from our last camp next to the Hoarusib River, south towards the Skeleton Coast. We have to cover more than 700km in the desert. Kaokoland is one of the best destinations for 4x4 touring. Not only there are challenging tracks but the remoteness of the area means that one needs to be prepared, self-sufficient, and know how to get out of tricky situations alone. But it is one of the most rewarding, with landscape changes every hour, and wild animals roaming in dry riverbeds. We cross Orupembe, see the Stonemen of Kaokoland, drive through dry riverbeds, also called rivers of sand, get to see the vast Sekeleton Coast, and drive kilometers on barren landscapes. We reach Purros, camp next to giraffes, battle the many corrugations and cross the Skeleton Coast National park until we reach the Atlantic Ocean. The best Overlanding adventure one can expect, and our favorite place in Namibia to date.
This is the land of the Himba, they have inhabited this region for centuries and have adapted to the harsh environment. They follow semi-nomadic pastoralism, but tourism is threatening their traditional way of life. Many tourists treat them as objects of interest and curiosity, rather than respecting them as human beings. This is creating several problems, on the one side Himba are losing authenticity as they might be performing or exaggerating practices only for tourists. Moreover they are starting to depend on tourism as well, weakening their connection to their land and heritage as the next generations get closer to Western practices. Due to this, we never wanted to be part of it and this is the reason why you will not see them in our videos.

They are! It think if we had stayed longer we might have been able to capture it with peace and not rush that much. But I already promised Kai to get to the coast as soon as possible. He had waited for surf for months! And yes, this place has it all, harsh and empty but awe inspiring 🤩

Yes!! The region gave us the feeling we had seen something similar before, but never quite, specially when a giraffe pokes his head behind a tree. 😂😂The Landy feels at Home here. It's a beast that loves such challenges. Well except corrugations, those are man made and were killing our car 💀

I am surprised, that people don't talk about it more often! We got it on the internet in Germany. But it broke at the coast in Namibia due to exposure to sea salt. We still need to try to flush it with fresh water and se if we can revive it.

Thank you 😊 Oh yeah, I would not do it with a petrol engine the fuel consumption is way better with a diesel and you got more torque at low rpm. We are really lucky with the car, but we're also checking on all new noises and do frequent proper maintenance.
