It is your tractor so do as you wish. With that being said, the "old iron" is getting harder to find these days. Even if it took a few years, I personally would put it back to original, minus the turbo. I've seen those aftermarket turbos kill a lot of engines in my 61 years on this planet. Thanks for the video.

3/5/23; ..JD 5020 w/spun crank shaft bearings...+ other...Appreciate yur honest summary: 'we farm 2000 acres, excavate (+dozer) property maintenance...& rebuilding old tractors is 'hobby'.. Like your priorities, ($$$ matters)...dollars make the decisions..suggest you sell this unit as it requires waay more time, which detracts from focus on soo many other property & equipment issues..& all of those items need your full attention. ..besides as you mentioned..you love making videos now! Great! We KZreadrs wanna see/hear more outside/fresh air accomplishment rather than clostrophobic microbiological tiny greasy little cavities where your (SnapOn) wrenches won't fit to fix a small proportion of the overall project that was broke...phew! ...had to get all that out! So bring your camera outside under blue sky & let's roll in some good'ole dirt! Stay safe & carry on!👍👍👍👏🍺😊

Brandon -- I think you are doing the right thing by waiting til you have time to do the job right. A neat little historical story for you is that way back in about 1967 or so my Dad took me and we went to the John Deere Dealer in Moulton, Iowa where Dad bought his equipment. I was about 9 years old then. They had a brand new 5020 sitting on the lot there and I got to climb up on it and sit in the seat while Dad and the dealership owner talked on the ground nearby. Dad did not buy the 5020 though. We had a 4020 already and instead he bought another 4020 in 1968 which gave us two of them then. We farmed almost 1000 acres with those two 4020's, and that was a lot back in those days.

the cost of re-building is not cheep! especially with full sized john deere tractors. yes you have to remember it is a hobby, when it gets done, it gets done. do not press your luck, do the job right, do not piecemeal it because you will have other major failures that could destroy the tractor, and you will be at a complete loss. nothing worse then a “John Deere paperweight “ take care, be safe and stay healthy! barry

I think it's the Wise Decision. Set it to the side for now and make the proper repairs so it can live a long healthy life. M&W Turbo is kinda cool but you don't need the added horsepower (and added headache), you've got high horsepower tractors already. Put it back to original and let it live. 👍🚜😉🇺🇲👋

Looks like a decent old 5020, like most of them, they are a 50+ year old tractor that has been used for years. I agreed with taking your time and doing it the correct way. Unless the 4wd deere with transmission problems has the 619 engine, then you might be able to swap that into the 5020 for plow days. At the end of the day it’s your tractor and your money. Do what you want. I appreciate the videos.

Oil pump may still be worn out. I rebuilt our farms 5020 and luckily we put a real oil pressure gauge on it, started up all was well after engine warmed up started losing oil pressure turns out the pump gears had to much clearance, found out it is a common problem with the 5020 a nightmare to find a new one. But your antifreeze caused your problem I think it's worth saving old iron is getting more expensive all the time

Even if it’s next winter it’ll be a wonderful video series. You have some other great choices for plow day. Look at it like this, being busy this winter helps with money to spend on the hobby, not to mention upgrading on the excavating side with the Hyundai and D8. The other option is drop a 2 cycle Detroit in the 5020 since you have those engine manuals now. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

If it were mine I would bite the bullet and fix it then you know what you have. Mine started as an in frame and turned into an out of tractor total rebuild of the whole engine. Injector pump new injectors head completely redone clutch everything. For the money I spent no way could you replace that tractor with a new one or even a good used one.
