It's New But Is It Different? - OneTigris Foldable Tent Camping Cot - First Look and Impressions

Ғылым және технология

OneTigris has been on a role lately with new products including this Camping Cot; is there something special here with this product or is it a copy of other cots that are already on the market?

OneTigris Tent Camping Cot :
Agenda Free Link : www.onetigris.com/foldable-ca...
Price : $160
Colors : Coyote and Black
Measurements :
Materials :
420D Oxford Fabric
7075 Alumunym Alloy
Weight : 8.5lbs
Weight Capacity : 330
Impressions so far :
Quality seems to be excellent
Adjustable height
Very tight laying platform
Side Pockets good size
Storage bag is of a good size
Weight isn’t bad considering the size of this cot. Some cots that are comparable in size are rather heavy with some being over 20lbs. The weight of this cot is virtually the same as the Alps Mountaineering cot that I like so much but this is substantially more adjustable.
Negatives
Setup process is lengthy - it takes time and also some muscle. I have an injured arm and find the setup to be difficult.
Large form factor
Not a unique design - when I saw that OT had brought a cot to the market, I was thinking that the design looked familiar; other companies offer the same product and they are less expensive. In some cases, around $50 less expensive but I will admit, the OneTigris version looks better. Aterpa is one such brands. If weight is important, this brand may be something that you want to check out as it features a different top fabric which is just as strong but is a few pounds lighter.
In a world of copycat products it is a bit disappointing to see that nothing new has been done here with this cot design but with that being said, what is present is makes makes a good quality cot.
This cot is going into testing now and I will be sharing my thoughts and experiences in the future along with adventures with this product.

Looks like a pretty solid product. 9lbs though is a hell of a lot to carry for a backpacking trip though. It looks like it'd be best for overland trips or if you had some kind of hunting cabin. Something tucked away in the woods with just four walls and a roof.

@@intractablemaskvpmGy that’s close to the weight of the military surplus French all steel folding cot I have. Mine is closer to 38+ pounds due to the fact that it came with a bug net that has a zippered door and a floor with shock corded poles. The polls are actually the same size length and diameter as the polls on my US Marine surplus one man LiteFighter tent. Seems like old military surplus is super heavy. Usually bombproof, but it sure is a work out. No need for a gym when you have military weight items.

I have a similar cot made by woods. It has 3 supports and only available in the lower position with no extra legs. It's around 4lbs. I use it alot for canoe camping or hot tent camping. I like how comfortable it is for me and I usually get a good night sleep on it. Thanks for the video 👍🏻

    1. To assemble your bed, first put the side you will be sleeping on face down in the mud. 2. Should you break that tensioning mechanism at the start of your trip, sleep on the ground and contact Customer Services on your return.

Love your reviews, upon watching this video on the carrying bag the extra strap is to hang the carrying bag at the head or foot of the cot for extra storage of gear. This cot is pretty cool and would work great even in storm shelters/ bunkers, you'd still have your space but have them handy in a overnight emergency.

Cudos on an exceptionally thorough review of this cot. I just purchased a Springbar Compact canvas tent (6'x8'x52") for car camping and I've been searching high and low for just the right cot for my tent. I want a height that's tall enough that it's easy to get up off of, yet low enough to give me at least 1" of head room in a sitting position (from seat to top of my head is 35"). The other factor is ease of assembly. Although this cot has a lot of parts to assemble, it looks doable. I'm especially glad that you took time to show how the lever bars work. I might have a bit of struggle with that step, but I think I can do it (I'm a 71 year old single woman). And lastly, thanks for pointing out the less expensive competitor models, though I suspect the lighter fabric might be susceptible to tearing away from the seams if that's what makes their cots lighter.

G'day Luke, lotta faffing about to deploy and even with the pads, I can see those leg holes filling with dirt if not on a ground sheet or tent floor. I do like the webbing on the side rails, very nice touch. Ultimately, not sure how it fits in he scheme of things i.e. surely one wouldn't pack carry this @ nearly 4 kilograms, and for car camping, pack down size, weight doesn't matter........I use a bigger, beefier camping store cot that deploys in under a minute. No plastic clips in sight, all 1 1/2 in. - ish box tube construction and comes out at seat height, which incidentally provides storage space underneath. I paid around 80 AUD on sale a few years back, though in fairness, similar are 110 - 170 AUD now. Cheers Duke.

Hey, Luke: THANKS for the shout-out! Up to a few years ago, I used an Army-style version of this cot that featured scissor legs and two spreader bars. It was always a hassle to get the last spreader into the last hole in the last rail end. This OneTigris unit at least has some leverage working for it in the stretch. I LIKE the high/low leg option. My KZread channel buddy, Boonedockery, took the Army version cot out and mounted a Lightfighter 1 tent on top for an overnighter. So far, that is proving to be a comfortable combination. I bet a suitable OneTigris tent would do fine on this new cot!

Another great and honest video. I would like to know two important things and one just out of curiosity type thing. If you leave the legs behind, what does the rig weight? If you weight less than the maximum, can you use the cot with just 8 legs instead of 16, to save weight, but still get the advantages of extra height? How would this cot hold up, in your opinion, if you don't want to do an actual test, as an emergency stretcher or litter? The stresses would be distributed differently in that role.

I like to use the cot "without" the leg extensions, which helps me to get out of the cot and reload my titanium stove easier. One problem I'm encountering is that the cot is very tippy when sitting on the edge. I wish they would add supports along the long edges to prevent overturning. I wonder if others have the same experience with an🙃 overturning issue. And yes, it's very fiddly to assemble but I like it because of it's compact storage size and it's very light weight. 🙃

Something to consider, would be... How well the fabric holds up after the abuse of camping... ( Rain, Dust Dirt, abrasive movement's in and around a campsite that might cause the fabric to deteriorate over time ) and since they use one of the strongest blends of aluminum ( 70-75 ) how do the plastic housing hold up. This might be the determining factor when comparing items that appear similar... and as some have stated, does it work better when trying to save weight, just to leave the additional poles behind and use it in the short configuration...?

It is a shame and wish they would offer 2 size options, one for people under 6ft and then another for people upto say 7ft. then we as consumers have OPTIONS. I have found similar issues when selecting tents that have enough length to cater for taller people. Thanks Luke... Always appreciated.

Cots are great for car camping. Weight not a factor normally. However it would be of interest to know weight without height extension poles. Something else to consider is the height without the poles and the length. I’m thinking this pairs and compliments the One Tigris Smokey Hut. Other cots on the market have to be pulled closer to the center pole of the Smokey Hut Tipi. Which reduces the footprint of that tent. PS The weight of 330 lbs is a nice addition for us bigger guys. Not many cots or chairs that accommodate the larger man. Thanks and God’s blessings Luke.

Looks pretty well built and durable. The locking mechanism is pretty smart, that's one thing I've always found to be a bit of a hassle with my Decathlon cot with solid frame bows. It works, but it means you have to put some serious tension on it to get the free end in. What is the weight of it when you're not using the legs?

I have a similar designed cot but it doesn't have the additional legs to extend the height but uses a couple more cross braces. Not a problem as I prefer the low height. Mine also weighs much less - about 3.5 lbs and takes much less volume. Not sure about the price but I probably paid about $140 CDN. I've got a full size Cabelas cot if I wanted to car camp that is longer and wider (and heavier, bulkier to boot).

I have a similar cot for motorcycle camping. I mean, also a bit more off the ground than your average cot, and also with a similar tightening technology. Also, it can carry up to 250 kgs, which I much prefer. And its about 10 cm wider, with straps to hold a camping mat in place. It has not those loops at the sides though... Weight of this cot is 4 kgs, which is not bad IMO. I took a look at a version of this and decided to go for that other, slightly more expensive version. By adding a carp tent to it, I turned it into a one person tent. Really tight in there though...no space for shenanigans.

Well as to improvements a cot is a cot not much ya can do with them I agree theres cheaper but the weight is much more and ya need to in really good shape to hump it around unless your car camping and if it stays together and lasts longer then 160 isn't a bad price in my opinion thanx for sharing your thoughts on this

Perhaps the fancy cot would be ideal for the occasional canoeing excursion as one can pack nearly everything with zero added effort paddling (downstream).

One suggestion when you gave the dimensions early in the video 6.2 feet by 2.2 feet was a bit confusing and is quite a bit different from 6‘2“ by 2‘2“. I thought you were saying that it was 6 feet and approximately 2.4 inches not a huge difference but makes more sense if you say 6‘2“ rather than 6.2 feet thanks for somewhat clarifying it further along in the video when you said it wouldn’t really be suitable for people over 6 feet tall. I know it’s a small difference but it’s good to know the separation feet and inches when giving dimensions. Some people might even want it in centimeters or meters for that matter. I know you convert US pounds to kilograms for those that prefer that weight measurement. Have a great day enjoyed the video as always.🎃

Seems this would be decent for car camping, but I would prefer an ultralight cot or stretcher-type version for backpacking. Nine pounds is a lot to add for a man-portable sleep system (on top of the other things you would have).

No one would take cots for backpacking, cots have a camping application. Kind of like asking for a BBQ you can take for backpacking. Deep winter, you take a cot on a polk, so weight is not an issue. You use it in a hot tent, which is rarely/impossible for real backpacking

Im not sure how i feel about the frame being detatchable in that manner. Are those half moon connectors deep enough to manage the inevitable stretch from the canvas over time? Not that im asking you specificly, but thats my train of thought with this cot. The comparison would be my military cot, yeah its large and bulky, but as the canvas stretches with age and use, i dont have to worry about sitting or laying on it and ending up on the ground because it has stretched past the frame retention point.
