It's never too late | Dilys Price OBE | TEDxCardiff

Have you ever felt like your life was travelling in the wrong direction but that it’s too late to do anything about it? At age 54 that’s exactly how Dilys felt. She was anxious, stressed, disconnected and searching for her purpose but then something happened that changes her entire outlook as well as her future.
Using examples from turning points in her extraordinary life, Dilys Price OBE explains how through facing her fears she was able to find her purpose and make a difference to not only herself but to thousands of people.
Now aged 84, Dilys story serves as an inspirational reminder that life really is for living.
Dilys Price is an 84 year old grandmother who, as a single parent with a young child, forged a career in Modern Dance in Higher Education and on retirement founded & ran the business & charity , Touch Trust. This started from her kitchen and now has nearly ½ a million turn over. Dilys licensed the program, trained hundreds to teach the life saving, unique stress release & life enhancing program, and has the joy of knowing that it is received by over 1000 adults and children with special needs weekly.

Dilys has received an OBE for her work work and also two Lifetime Achievement Awards for work in Diversity & for Care in Wales (including the Inspire Wales Award for significant contribution to the Arts in Wales ). She was also awarded an Honorary Fellowship by Cardiff Metropolitan University (her old college). For Touch Trust, Dilys also obtained a place as one of the seven Artistic & Creative organisations in the prestigious & iconic Wales Millennium Centre.

Dilys is a woman who wants to enjoy the wonderful world and support others to do the same…….That is where her energy comes from. Her ethos is:

if you fall off your bike, get back on & do wheelies
find the jewel in the sh*t
get a passion
be kind to as many as you can, as often as you can, to whomever you can ,where ever you can, in any way you can.

The old cliché is worth remembering “Life is not a rehearsal”

I've been suffering from depression for the past ten years. Spent a lot of spair time in bed feeling anxious. I decided, I had to do something to kick-start my life for my kids. Their age ranges are 16 to 37. I took them to do tandem jumps, in the UK, on a beautiful, hot August day a few weeks ago. On the day, the build-up was terrifying. I really didn't want to it. I'm scared of heights and I don't like flying. I was terrified as I was about to jump. We tumbled out of the aeroplane door and as we stabilised, face-down, looking at the ground two miles below, I felt such joy and elation. It was an absolutely wonderful thing to do. I haven't stopped smiling since. We're doing another tandom jump this weekend (weather permitting), and I am considering doing AFF. My 16 year old son is desperate to do AFF in the spring of 2020. I highly recommend doing it!!!!

I get horrifying nightmares. I found myself screaming when I woke up. Usually, the worse ones were about owls. I would be really relaxed in bed. Then a terrifying image would enter my mind when I don’t expect it to happen. So, sometimes it’s nice staying awake. My mission is to stop panicking. I like this woman. She has fear? Skydiving. I would never walk on tightrope from the World Trade Building to another building. It is because an airplane crashed into it. Hah. I am not a risk taker. I finally realize that I am not psycho. You know what I mean? I don’t like how these woman talks about special Olympics. We all have challenges. I had this man with Down’s syndrome teach me patience. I don’t know him well. It takes me a long time to find my way around. I would be scared to go alone on an airplane. I took algebra over the summer so that my parents didn’t have me take an airplane to California at fifteen with my younger sister. I seriously believe that I could have Asperger’s syndrome, but I am not diagnosed yet.

Dear Bonnie, I'm 54 and have struggled my whole life to heal from childhood. In the past few years I've lost my joy, and as she said in this video, my connection is lost, and bad things start happening. Let us make a pact to find passion, let go of anger and grief, and forgive those who couldn't love us. I don't know your story, but I hope you make it GOOD. Love and blessings your way.

  • @bonnieklapel1825

I agree. One thing I’m doing is paying attention to what my “gut feelings” tell me and listen to them despite what anyone else tells me. I’ve listened to others in spite of myself most of my life and I’ve paid the price for that. From now on I listen and follow my instincts and don’t second guess myself. I’m taking responsibility for my joy and happiness and my life choices. I feel more connected to me than I ever have. Not always happy, but it always works out the best way for me in the end. And when I listen to someone that resonates with me, then I know to pay attention. And if I don’t resonate with what they say, then I pay attention to that too, because it helps me to decide what to stay away from or be aware of. Living my life on purpose rather than by accident. It’s not always great, but it’s better than how my life could have gone. It’s not always easy to say no, I’m not going to do it that way, or that I don’t agree with someone, but it’s ultimately my choice and I’m ok with that. It’s my life to live, and no one else’s. And no one else really knows what’s best for me. So live your life, your best life, according to what your gut feelings tell you, and make your own choices, don’t let anyone, no matter what, tell you what is best for you. No matter how much they love you. or think they know, only you know deep inside what is the best for you, so I wish you the Best of life and love and luck to you too!

  • @robincrowflies

@@bonnieklapel1825 Yes. We have only to do what our inner being wants to do, and let others do what their inner beings tell them. As long as I'm not hurting anyone, and as long as they aren't hurting me. Live and let live, and trust that all is well. Treat one another with the kindness that springs from knowing we are all better off when we are all better off, and we all belong somewhere, and we all struggle in this world. Blessings heaped upon us all. ;-)

I just turned 29 this year and for the past few years I’ve been feeling like I’m not where I should be like I should’ve accomplished more when I was in my teens but now this video has made me feel peace of mind.

Such a breath of fresh air Ms. Price is! So passionately authentic! She definitely stands out amongst most "teachery" TTalks. What a great example of how to live with verve and purpose! Doing that "scary thing" that she's talking about doesn't have to be skydiving. For me, it's being the sculptor and painter I've always wanted to be. Launching myself out there with no fallback plan. Leaving the"safe route" of other jobs and teaching behind me and creating art, my labor of love, to share all of this beauty with others. This is my passion! I tried the "safe" routes and at 50, I don't want to waste any more time playing it safe. It's scary as h*ll sometimes, but creating and going toward fun and magic makes my life worth living! Thank you, Dylis Price for being a great example! I hope to inspire others as she did. I love seeing people find their passion and live it! Let's go for it! 💚🎆

So sorry for the world’s loss! She seemed to be an inspiration to all, but especially to those who care for someone with special needs. I would love to know who is running her charity now & if it still exists? Does anyone know the name & how to get in touch with them? I am in the U.S. & I think her idea would benefit many w/special needs here, in the states, as well. I recall a story of a family that had a male family member that was severely cognitively delayed & unable to speak. The siblings asked a Psychic Medium “What is my brother thinking? What is he supposed to learn?” The Medium replied… “People like your brother are sent to teach, not to learn!” As a parent of a child with special needs, that was life changing! It turned everything I had thought on it’s head. I now saw my child in a much different light. She was our teacher, & we were her students, not the other way around! God bless them all!🙏
