“It’s Like George Orwell’s Animal Farm….” | Peter Hitchens' Half Hour
Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty on Friday to three new charges related to his handling of U.S. classified documents after he left the White House in 2021 - raising the total brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith in the case to 40.
Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, also waived his right to be present in Florida federal court for his arraignment on the three additional charges on Aug. 10, a court filing showed.
TalkTV’s Mike Graham is joined by columnist Peter Hitchens for his half hour discussing Donald Trump’s indictment and the Government’s latest migration policy.

It should be got rather than 'gotten'. The past participle of 'get' in English, as used in UK, is 'got'; the past participle of 'get' in American English is 'gotten'. Therefore it should be 'things would have got' ‒ not 'things would have gotten'. Inflections of 'get': past tense ‒ got, past participle (English) ‒ got, (chiefly American) ‒ gotten. ❤xx

Sounds rather redolent of a country in Eastern Europe today…it’s on the tip of my tongue. Peter’s right. The US-backed coup of 2014 is our Franz Ferdinand moment, and as Kennedy warned in 1962, you cannot back a nuclear-armed power into a corner and expect it to accept a humiliating defeat. Peter's "if A then B" doesn't impress me. I do think the Trump-inspired fracas was disgraceful, but it certainly was not describable as an "insurrection" or anything close. Considering all the firearms Americans possess, I think we can take it for granted that if they wanted to overthrow the democratic process they would remember to take some of those guns along with them. On the other hand, the overthrow of Viktor Yanukovych was, as Mr. Hitchens says, clearly an illegal and undemocratic act.
"Not enough air conditioning in this country." What a weak comment. If you are fit and in shape, you can handle the cold or the heat in this country.

this is a rare major league L for our boii peter hitchins, this was a self hitchslap
The Bolsheviks had a majority in the Soviets (soldiers and workers councils); the alternative mass democratic powerbase at odds with the provisional government which was weak, ineffective and likely to be overthrown, one way or another. The fact is that Lenin's slogan of "all power to the soviets" was replaced by a single, one party monopoly of power.
You don't even need to agree with everything Peter says, but he and his brother are (was/were - RIP Christopher) clever, articulate, engaging fuckers. Imagine if the BBC wasn't garbage these days and hosted this kind of discussion!
South Georgia would be my choice.
This was terribly British.

Conveniently counted at the last minute and forbidden to be investigated also don't question voting machines.
Imagine thinking you could have an opinion on the subject when you know nothing about it. They do *sound* smart though, well done.

"sound smart" That's all it takes. Well, that and being in the proper circles to be invited on TV.
Yanukovych didn't make attempts at a deal, he literally finalised a deal agreeing to form a coalition government and holding elections before the end of the year. Not certain but I think he was violently overthrown within the following 24 hours.
Hitches lost my respect when he got the jab to travel.
There arent many British conservatives whose opinions on American politics I find particularly impressive and most are entirely uninformed. No exceptions here.
Part of the reason the rich Gulf Arabs come here in the summer is for our mild climate!
The Ascension island plan is desperation....
Yanokovitch forced to give away, looking more as a mental strategical concerted action between different forces, financed by a foreign support. Rule of law, fair elections, correct distribution of power and groups of decision, assuring the right balance on the judicial and legislating bodies.
Very FEEBLE chat about legal tender, avoiding ANY talk about CASHLESS society. Deeply disappointed!🤦🏼♂️
