Have to hand it to Rolex, they managed to make their product truly desirable again. It wasn't that long ago (past decade) where they were practically begging you to buy Subs, GMTs, etc. I remember walking into ADs who had cases full of Rolex sport models. And the used market had steel subs for like $4-6k. Nothing to do with inflation, all to do with demand. Then something happened...probably the pandemic to some extent. Production got cut, people had extra money, and somehow Rolex's marketing team stepped it up because damn have they gone nuts. It's the same thing with Porsche.

Yes. I have five rolex and the one I love the best is my 18078 bark finish day date. The bark just glistens in the light. I was lucky enough to get the rare diamond string dial which has flawless tiny factory diamonds that are impossible to describe. Yeah it's got Bling but I have learned to love that too. I'm now wearing it all the time. There's no way it can be confused with a copy. I see this watch on the wrists of so many celebrities in old KZread videos. So yeah... Hope this helps. I have owned this watch for about 18 months. It is a fabulous watch, but I wish Rolex would put dark hands instead of the silver. Very hard to read as the Meteorite dial and the silver hands blend in and make it difficult in many cases to clearly read the time. I have looked at darker hand replacements, but want to keep it original.

⏱️ The Pepsi bezel GMT and the Yacht Master II are my favorite Rolex models. However, the production/marketing/AD setup are not. I guess in the luxury market (including cars, clothes, etc.) playing the shell game is quite bearable. Then again, maybe it's just the thrill of the 'hunt!' 🌎 Also, rumor has it that the earth is probably only 6000-7000 years old. But then again, maybe believing a meteorite ☄️ landed on it "4.5 million" years ago makes waiting for the call from the AD more bearable, too! 😉

It's a bezel. Not a rare, laboriously built movement. Its not a ultra rare metal or gem stone. It's a bezel. A real watch expert should not fall for this artificially manufactured scarcity. Regarding the meteorite dial. This not a difficult material for watch brands to procure. In fact Invicta the shopping mall brand selling Popeye, Daffy Duck and Pikachu watches sell an entire range of meteorite dials that likely came from the the same massive rock that Rolex used as the striations look very similar to the Invicta dials. Sure they treated them differently but that's process stuff and not anything to do with market scarcity. Any brand can make a meteorite dial. Rolex simply choose to make very few. If they are trading for a $50k premium then it's basically like taking candy from a baby.

I have many watches from Longines to Omega, Tudor, etc. as well as three Rolex models (not the GMT though). I'm not a Rolex fanboy and at the beginning I always said that Omega is better than Rolex anyway, but trust me, that's just not true. The finish and the way they look and feel is just on a completely different level! All the corners feel really sharp and really smooth at the same time, something I can't say about the other watches in my collection. Rolexes are definitely overly-hyped but saying that those watches are not well made is just false! What surprised me the most though was the precision of the watch when worn every day. I like tracking the precision of all my watches and even though only my Omega's are METAS certified, the three Rolexe's are as precise as the Omega's. I don't own a grand seiko and I agree on the fact that they have awesome finish but the problem with GS is that their watches are just not interesting. They look generic and besides the snowflake there is no other model which can really compete with the looks of a Omega, Rolex or even Tudor or Breitling. At the end of the day there is a reason on why Rolex achieved this status and having him talking about the biggest and most successful brand is just normal!

I disagree unless you are a newbie telling between a fake and real is not extremely hard as for the price its a luxury item there are many cars that are functionally better than a ferrari or bugati at fractional cost because brand value is real there’s a reason apple sells a smartphone for 999 when android phones with same specs or in some cases better sell half of that tag If you are in the luxury world accept the reality or just leave there are 1 million watches but more than 1 million buyers hence premium and in case of gs there are 35k watches but 30k buyers hence the below retail price simple economics

@@songoku-jx3cb no disrespect meant but I’m not a newbie nor do I have anything against a Rolex. But I do see a massive amount of manipulation in the watch industry. When it comes to Rolex and their ADs, Rolex are kings of marketing. I respect that. The ADs …. As another collectors said, tons going to the back door to the grey market. If there was true shortage then fine. But the reality is there is no shortage. It’s a game of chicken where the AD says no stock but the reality is tons of stock. Why do they do this? Because they want to make money by selling other “sacrifice” watches to reward the buyer after spend history requirements are achieved. The silly collectors do it often to just flip the Rolex again. This is why there are 9,000 “rare” Daytona’s for sale on c24. Check and see yourself. We also know of the games played by many brands on the auction front. By brands and auction houses to give the illusion of demand. If I was a Rolex collector, I would look for rare neo vintage Rolexes low production numbers and special heritage. The ones one would buy at the AD today are nothing more than s factory produced tool watch. Buy it at MSRP if you like … It’s a factory produced … mass produced watch. So many are “getting the call” from ADs. They are in pain. Anyway, I wish you well in your collecting journey.
