It's Here! Dodonpachi 2-All (C-L) with Commentary :-D

Ойындар

Finally found the time to get my commentary for this run finished :-D
After a year of straight grinding, pain, heartbreak, and determination, I finally managed to get the Dodonpachi 2-All last night! To be honest, I'm still feeling like "Wow! I can't believe I finally did it!" What a crazy journey. This isn't the case of a superplayer just knocking out a DDP 2-All, this goal was a massive undertaking for me and I probably put easily over 700 hours (I'd be comfortable guessing about 1,000, to be honest) into this ridiculous clear.
I'm also super happy that I had a little bit of an audience of shmup homies watching as I streamed, so I feel like it was a cool experience for them too.
Anyway, this is the raw gameplay vid that I highlighted and immediately downloaded from Twitch (before the audio could be scrubbed). Had I known I'd be getting the 2-all yesterday, I probably wouldn't have been listening to Taylor Swift (maybe Flying Lotus or something), but hey, it's also kind of funny.
Note: KZread got mad about me uploading the OG video because of the Taylor Swift music (not suprising), so this vid will have a collection of songs from artists that I listened to over the last year while grinding out attempts and practice.
Here is the link for the OG run with the forbidden audio:
drive.google.com/file/d/1c8xD...
Also, keep your eye out for my podcast shmup spotlight on this 2-All.

There are many of us who yearn for Cave 2-ALLs (or other clears, like Takumi/Psikyo games for me!) without having the chops for world record scores. Vids like this encourage me! It's great to sit down and listen to your rationale/strats. You are right; the bomb meta-game psychology is real, and it's a killer. I have a hard time coping with restart syndrome, so it's encouraging to hear about your playing out the runs to reduce nerves. Good advice!

It's amazing to me that people can get so good at DDP, I am terrible at this series in particular I can see how it would take a year of practice to get as good as you are. Stuff like Batsugun and the Twin cobra/tiger series eventually "clicked" with me and I went from survival to focusing on scoring, I've at least gotten pretty good at those and Mushihime was a fun 1CC. Keep it up with the cave games you'll get even better I'm sure.

Thanks for the commentary, the way you communicate a real passion for the game and the shmup genre make me want to grind the hell out of the game in my shmup library :D I really feel you for the end commentary about the meaningfulness of this kind of grind, playing alone, being obsessed by the game, that's a vast question but you just got to keep a healthy relationship with the game. The last 30s of the run were really clutch well played.

I love so much this genre more than any other in gaming. but ive swear, before i die ill make at least a 1cc for DDP. Very nice and inspiring video. Keep up this work of God.

Now I'll be honest (and you can make fun of me, I don't care), I really had a bad experience with this bullet hell genre. My first played one was Touhou 6; I died a lot of times, wasn't even able to beat in normal difficulty, played it for around 6 months (that was 2016), watched these people beating the game like it was nothing, read some forums (not going to give names) about people saying you simply need to "git gud" and stuff... no success. I started to think something was wrong with me. That went to the point I visiting a psychologist to see whether I had, maybe, lack of attention limitation or not - turned out I don't - however I really started to even fear the genre. Around 2 years later, I've decided to give Touhou 7 a try, the results were basically the same as before and, at that time, I didn't get why people say this one was more forgiven. I dropped from that series and begin to search about another... I've found Donpachi (PS1). Again, I was still really bad in, but I think it was the first time I have had some fun with. Nevertheless, it didn't last for too long and I completely dropped the genre. Years later, then, I find your channel and watched that "How to bullet hell" series when you talked about your struggle and experience; not going to lie, that was extremely comforting to me, since finally, thinking to myself, I've found a real human being in this bullet rain. I am so grateful to find your content I'm thinking about giving the genre a try again, now that I understand these games can take quite a while to beat and could take a big effort. Thank you, bro!

Exactly. people talk about how things are easy and i struggle, btw stage 3 of DDP is not easy to no miss. lately i've been doing save states and focused stage and boss practice, grinding hard on small portions of the hardest parts of games playing 100's and probably 1000's of times. i'm improving, still struggling. i found that practicing while listening to a podcast or audiobook and just playing the same part over and over helps me, try not to get frustrated, just get in the zone and play over and over. i'm grinding touhou7 on easy and still cant 1cc yet..

15:08 those moments you just need a good rest from the grind, let the body process all of that exp and grind you put in, the improvements are pretty noticeable afterwards. Also being in burnout makes you play worse for sure, you stop paying attention to the details of what makes the run consistent.

Got about 6 or 7 games on the go to try and learn some fundamentals. How do you approach a game once you set your sights on one you want to go further with? It looks hard, and it does get hard, but trust me when I tell you that the first two levels, maybe even 3, are not as hard as you think. Agreed. Survival Over Scoring, Is What Most SHMUP's Should Have In Reward. People Chasing Over Scoring While Not Learning To Survive, Is Like Going To A Battlefield, And Die, Without Learning To Fire The Gun. 1CC In SHMUP's Aren't Important, Unless You're A Superb Player And You Want A Challenge. ZeroRanger Taught Me That, A Hard Way. And Honest To God, I Treat SHMUP's As A Brain-simulating Puzzle, Which Teaches Me Not Just Survival, But Quick Reflexes, And Accidental Covers, As How You'd Avoid Near-miss Dangers Effectively, And Take Last Minute Decisions Effectively.
