Thanks. Nice to hear some "down to earth" ranged tips on the playstyle. All those different arrows/coatings have kind of kept me away from ranged playstyle so far. Just entered Iceborne areas and I am starting to look towards them. That relaxed approach to charged shots might also be something that I needed to hear 😀

No worries dude! I found it annoying to keep up with the coatings so I barely used it throughout my time playing with the bow. Sure I missed out damage potential or making use of status effects but it goes to show that you don't need to rely on them 👌

This is how I play the bow : The charge shot is great to kite and reposition without consuming too much energy and keep your running speed without getting slowed down by the walk animation when firing. It's a really good alternative for glass canon builds where you don't go a lot for stamina saving perks. The dash shot is great to reach a spot where you can aim for the head while doing damage on the way. I use dragon pierce for a while to until the tail is cut, or if the head of the monster I perfectly aligned with the rest of his body. As Dragon pierce has piercing effect, you can deal way more damage by using this than using claw if there is no nearby walls. Spread shot is great if you are close to the monster. In theory the double spread combo deals more damage, but the frame staggering is really risky

This is great advice. I love seeing comments like this where I can know how others play with the weapon. There might be the perfect way of using the weapon, but in the end, it's just how you use it to defeat the monster. Thanks for letting us know your playstyle 👍

I love bow because it's really chill to play. My build is always Max Constitution, Max Stamina Surge, 1 Shaver, Max elemental damage and a few dash juice. The gameplay is also simple: Arrive, look for target, drink Dash Juice, wound the head, then choo choo goes the train. After that, it basically just spam Power Shot and Arc Shot on the head even online because most of the time, melees will aim for tail or wing/arm first. These obliterate almost all monster in 2-3 rotation. Shaver decor and temporal mantle helps a lot for quick and easy wouding. And yes, I hunted Tzitzi Yaku and Diablos to near extinction. 😅

Thanks! I'm a seasoned bow user that just came back for Iceborne, and had no idea they added another uber attack! Looks super useful for the "smaller" monsters (meaning, they aren't the size/length of a jumbo jet) Also, Bow Charge Plus is far and away the strongest deco for bow users, which can now be crafted at the melder once you complete Iceborne's story (you used to have to simply pray you'd roll one in a quest reward, with a very low chance.) It requires something like 4000 melding points though, which means you'll need to melt down a TON of 3-4 star decos to craft it. The fastest reliable way to get this deco is to farm any event quest that offers decos, preferably in High Rank ('The Name's Lavasioth' is a good one; be sure you pick up all the materials it drops!) You'll either get lucky and roll the deco as a quest reward, or you'll be unlucky and have enough decos to melt down after... maybe a whole day of farming...

to add, during a festival you can get melding tickets from steamworks, so if you do the 'farewell Zinogre' event quest you get loads of fuel for the steamworks it comes out at around 100 tickets a hunt.

I love mhw bow. It’s my most played weapon. Coatings really help. Esp power and close. I use close sometimes, but never on monsters that can cart me easily. Power is pretty basic, it adds more dps. For status infliction, mainly sleep and stun coatings, you want to take your time charging up to max and landing your shots. To tenderize, you have to weapon attack twice or do 3 cc attacks then weapon attack. 1kd is really good if you have pierce slinger and good for wake ups (mega barrel bombs go brrrr). There is no single best bow so you’ll be crafting a lot of elemental bows and making different builds to accommodate them. Esp master rank since you can no longer rely on defender bow. Bow is about stamina management and power shot opening is your best friend. Hence, speed runner combos really make dps efficient in hunting quickly. Of course, you dont have to follow those combos and can play at your own pace. I just prefer speed runner combos.

Any tips on severing tails with the bow? I assume dragon piercer does slash damage, but it really is inconvenient to use. Love your MHW guides btw!

Thanks man and I'm gonna be totally honest with you, I've never used the bow to sever tails 😂 my only guess is to clutch claw, tenderize the tail and dragon pierce it. Other than that, I've no idea 😅 hopefully someone out there can help you out!

I might not be the best bow player, but what I normally do is when you manage to knock em down, I normally charge it to the max level, align the shot ideally so that it covers most monsters surface area ( for max damage) and then let er rip. Repeat 4-5 times, it works most of the time for me, tho might be a bit of a time consumer.

in the armor skills you forgot the skill that enhances the (shotgun) power shots and the rain , skill that can be find on lavasioth greaves for exemple.

Is it useful to use normal shots and spread shots? I don’t see a difference.

Honestly, I'm not sure what you mean. Normal and spread shots are needed to damage the monster. When constantly firing normal or using spread shots, they become charged, but they are still considered normal or spread shots. Without these two, you’ll be losing a lot of your dps if you intend to just wait for your charged shot to be maxed out before dealing damage.

the only thing i hate about bow is the sticky aim 😢
