Simon, please don’t change anything. The intro is your signature and the way you say your name is only give away that you are a Frenchman. Love it. Love your videos and I am sure you are pressed for time but there’s a humungous opportunity for you East of Suez. Please explore that too. Your tips are great like three clicks to right for a crow, four to left for bright snowy owl and five clicks to the right for a bird in flight. Simply fantastic. Would love to join you in your courses but for us in third world countries it’s almost a years salary and almost impossible. But to take nothing away your teaching is your legacy and will last forever. Looking forward for more breathtaking lessons and content. Wishing you many wonderful and productive years ahead. May your tribe increase. ❤

I passed my 70d onto my 11 year old that's taken up the hobby fairly seriously. Aside from Minecraft videos, you're her favorite channel to watch. She takes notes, and proudly corrects me on the camera settings while in the field in the Oregon backcountry. You're a bit of a celebrity in the house, and, thanks to you, she's been collecting some ribbons for her work. It's fun to watch her grow with this. Appreciate your work, and appreciate you.

Simon, now at 72, I find your channel and the ability you have to explain and share photography is without parallel and unmatched by many other photographers. After years of enjoying hunting, my legs prohibited me from further hunting. I sold or traded most of my weapons for photography equipment and began following your instruction and channel very closely. Wildlife photography, especially bird photography has opened my life to endless hours of enjoyment. In May 2023 after 34 years in the service of my country within the US Army and 26 years of federal law enforcement, I was diagnosed with cancer of the neck and mouth. After seven hard weeks of radiation treatment and now months of fighting the cancer, there are no further signs of cancer. My attitude and appreciation of life has greatly improved and once again, I’m viewing your photographs, style and passion of wildlife photography. It’s Great to see your channel grow to where you now find yourself. Please know, your passion of wildlife photography and the example you exhibit of life, is most contagious and very much appreciated by myself and many, many more photographers. Great success to you in 2024. Thanks, LTC Allen Reams U.S.A. Retired

Probably one of my favorite videos because it's so candid. For 2024, I would love to see you reach outside your comfort zone. IE - pair up with a portrait photographer for a couple weeks and talk about things where you aren't a specialist (like posing subjects, portrait and studio lighting, how to shoot events, etc). Or maybe pairing up with a local sports photographer and covering professional sports for a few weeks.

For me your success boils down to multiple factors: first and foremost, you're a master of your field, when i see others content i find their results technically impressive but i dont know boring, like they still do good work but your pictures are truly impressive so people will listen to it. Second: your true love for the art, like you want more people in the field, you want more people to appreciate what kinds of different things with a camera. Third: you never teach "the one correct way", which is particularly frustrating when i see it in others and they say something i consciously do as a stylistic choice is wrong, it makes me discard everything they say, you on the other hand show how to get different results, or what traits of your camera, positioning etc will do with your pictures, it's useful for way more people and for me at least invites me to experiment with something. Fourth but also very important, you're sweet and encouraging. It results in your videos being able to teach a lot, but most importantly to go out and apply what I've learned. I started photography a month ago and now I'm out almost every day for a couple of hours, and I can say with confidence you were a huge influence on that because when i had my initial interest i had a quick and friendly source that got me on the path to the results I want. The comments you get are indicative of your work and the field of photography owes you a lot for your educational work as I'm sure im far from the only photographer that has been deeply influenced by you.

Lots of channels are just talking about the latest gear and items that have released and how great it is. It is pretty exhausting, and from what I've seen your channel leaves a lot of that out, and instead focuses on actually taking photos and how to do it well, and what matters in real life. Content like your bird intro video where you give advice to go up beach and come back and lay in wait for the birds to come, that is gold. That kind of content is rare and isn't available on most KZread channels, it is clear real-world expertise that is being passed on and is what in my opinion makes your channel so great. I gifted an A7IV to a new photographer over Christmas and gave them a playlist of three of your videos to get started as they are brand new, and was really happy to be able to pass along your content, thanks!

Hi Simon I watched almost all your videos this year. I’m Matei, a 13 year old passionate wildlife photographer from Romania. Last year I discovered this passion when I first found my dad’s old 350D with its kit lenses. After a bit of time I upgraded to the 250D and bought a used 70-300. This year I upgraded to the R7 and the 100-500, with the help of my parents and my grandparents I finally could bought them. I’m really proud of what I learned this year and the results I got. In my opinion, you have two qualities that set you apart from most who make educational photography videos: 1) There is nothing superfluous in your videos. Not a single unnecessary sentence! The instructions have been condensed to be as concise as humanly possible. 2) A down-to-earth and honest style without any unnecessary hype. You're like the guy next door, not a KZread star or wannabe. Many Americans, like Jared Polin, are annoyingly loud or fast. Of course, the foundation of all this is that you are a professional and you have wonderful photos, but it's the previously mentioned factors that in my eyes set you apart from most of KZread's photography stars.

Simon, there's a good reason why you've had so much success with your channel: you do an excellent job of presenting photography tips/information to those still learning their craft. That isn't easy to do when one has many years of experience behind them; one must remember what questions passed between their ears when they were still learning the basics. Your videos manage to educate without overwhelming those wishing to better understand how to make "photographs," not just shoot "snapshots." Keep it up!

I think I speak for many in saying the privilege has been ours. I only took up photography back in March of this year and it has become an obsession. In my search for knowledge, ideas and inspiration you have become my mentor - my guru if you like. I have learned so much from you in the few months I’ve followed your incredibly instructive videos. I owe you a debt I will never be able to repay. Bless you good sir and I wish you all the best.

I can't express to you how much your videos mean to me. They are so informative, even if I do have to backtrack sometimes to fully understand all the technical things. After watching countless other videos where the people tend to ramble or go off course, I found myself saying, "Why can't someone make videos on a level that's easy to understand and straight to the point?" Then I found this channel. You have helped me understand what can be very confusing at times. My gratitude to you sir, for all your hard work, knowledge, expertise and delivering it in a way that makes learning photography fun and rewarding. Much thanks! P.s. please don't stop what you're doing.

It's not surprising because even after my own 20 years of photography your channel still has new and insightful ways of looking through the lens, your content is informative and concise without missing important details, and your photos are simply great. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. Bonne année 2024, laissez le bon temps rouler!

How refreshing. Ive been researching cameras to buy for my first ever 'proper' camera to begin my KZread journey and as a result your videos popped up. Despite needing more video centric advice it's so refreshing to come across this type of content that explains things in such a way that a camera newbie like me can actually follow and understand. I've been growing very tired of pompus videos about cameras that are extremely difficult to understand and see more geared towards showing off there own expertise with a camera as opposed to actually delivering a camera review. I hope that makes sense? Your videos are great

I _love_ your intros the way you're currently doing them. The upbeat music with the short introduction and example pictures - which both add important credibility - is really great and despite having watched numerous videos, I'm not getting tired of it at all. Quite the opposite! I wouldn't change a thing about it, honestly. I also love the _"I know you can do it!"_ at the end of your videos - it sounds genuine and actually provides a bit of motivation. Needles to say, everything in between the intro and outro is absolute top-notch quality and leagues ahead of any other photography channel I've watched. Your videos are to the point, yet don't leave anything important out. They are easy to parse, easy to remember, easy to apply. Thank you!

Simon, this channel deserves every bit of success! you provide amazing information for photographers, and if I were you, I'd stick to this format. KZread is bloated with channels that speak about gear, but few that actually "teach" something of high quality. In my humble opinion, the master teacher on KZread for wildlife photography has been - and still is - Steve Perry, and I would say that you and your channel can replicate this success easily. Your content is of very high quality, you've been gifted with a deep and calm voice - which is an important factor for me - to keep coming back for your videos, and above all, you're not just a good teacher, but also an amazing photographer. And in my opinion that's the resemblance I see between you and Steve. Both great teachers and wildlife photographers with an amazing body of work to back it. Some big photography channels only "talk" about photography or gear, but don't show images that inspire. You are different. Keep showing us great images, as they provide inspiration and instant credibility for yourself. I wish you a successful 2024, and looking forward to more amazing images, and maybe one day I'll join one of your workshops :)

I have a dslr for 4 years now. I always liked wildlife, not just photography but watching it, observing it. But I did little to no wildlife photography. Since seeing your videos I started wanting to improve and my focus started getting more to wildlife. And not just the point and shoot I was used to, but panning shots of wildlife in action, depth of field, using the right modes on my camera using the sun on the back for backlit photography. I love it and I have improved so much the last year because of your videos. I grew from being able to make okayish images. But I never liked them too much. Now I can make images I truly like a lot, that bring out an actual wow factor with my wife and family and friends that see them. I'm now at a point they are good enough that I want them on my walls and I will start looking into printing them soon. So your videos have helped incredibly much. Thank you so much. Oh yes, about the intro. I love your intro. The music fits the images so good and together they give a really nice feeling of incredible beauty. It really touches the heart. I have watched almost every one of your videos in about a year time and every time I saw that intro it gave a feeling of happiness. It absolutely isn't boring. It's a perfect intro and I think it prepares the people to come to the video with the right mindset. Yes your videos would be even shorter without it, but you can both condense the topic to the most important parts and explain them very well in a very short amount of time, yet not skipping important information unlike any other channel I have seen. They really don't need to be shorter. I vote for keeping the amazing intro.

Actually Simon the privilege is ours as we get to enjoy your weekly videos. You fully deserve the success of your channel! As is frequently pointed out in the comments section of your videos you are an amazing photography communicator (low signal to noise ratio). So whether learning something new, reviewing, testing my own knowledge or simply looking to watch a video about the wonderful hobby of photography, your videos never disappoint. As for future content suggestions: Of course more behind the scenes would be awesome but it's understood those videos are not easy or rewarded by the algorithm :( More about making wildlife video would be good. Your tours are a great idea and I hope they really take off for you and to one day join (in Canada!) … maybe you should take along a videographer with you to help with content and editing demands for your channel. All the best to you in 2024!
