It's 2024, and I'm STILL Playing these N64 Games!

Ойындар

I was a VERY late adopter of the Nintendo 64 -
legit, like...20+ years after it launched is when I finally owned one. But for good reason! My desire for an N64 was to have only a Jungle Green console, and I was determined to not settle for anything less. So, a couple years ago my wife and friend ‪@GameDadShow‬ conspired to get me my holy grail N64 for my birthday.
And I haven't looked back, since.
It's 2024, and I'm basically discovering a completely new console to me - here's the games I keep going back to.
And...yes, before anyone says anything: no, I don't have Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Super Mario 64, or anything resembling Mario Party on my list. Reasons are given in the video itself.

Banjo Kazooie was the first game I felt driven to FINISH. I used game magazine walkthroughs, and 100% eluded me. To this day I can tell you which puzzle pieces I'm missing! Maybe someday I'll try and go back?

Man, anytime someone mentions Space Station Silicon Valley, I'm THERE. It's a little rough around the edges, but the creativity on display and the absolutely savage sense of humor are worth every minute. Love the soundtrack too. Also, Kris has excellent taste in Diddy Kong Racing. The concept of an Adventure Kart Racer absolutely blew my mind as a kid. And Jet Force Gemini is also SO good. If you get a chance to play it on Rare Replay with the modern controls, you should! It makes an incredible game even better! Excellent list man.

Jetforce gemini is one of my favorite games on the console. Gameplay, graphics, music, story all just work. It would be my favorite overall if Rare didnt make it so you HAVE TO collect/find all the tribals. Still some good bug blasting fun.

Rogue Squadron and No Mercy were my childhood, spent so many hours unlocking everything in both, too bad I have the launch version of NM so my data deletes all the time. JFG rules but man did I hate the mid game “go back and get all the tribals” stuff…I basically rage quit at that point

Beetle adventure racing is super nostalgic for me. i've never made it past the 2nd race but my family played the hell out of the multiplayer mode back in the day. Turok is a game i hated until the xbox one ports. once they added traditional fps controls the series clicked for me games i come back to are banjo kazooie, mario kart, and pokemon stadium 2 (mini game champion). a bit basic but since we got our everdrive i'm learning about new games and rom hacks all the time this list was fire. the n64 is my favorite console and i always love hearing peoples favorites that aren't the standard zelda, mario, banjo(even though banjo kazooie is my favorite n64 game). comment is me rambling a bit, my apologies. cheers bro!🍻

Fantastic list of games. I still play through Beetle adventure racing at least once a year. It's really easy to pickup and play. I remember when Jet Force Gemini came out, I got it on release day and played it a ton. I found every hidden tribal and made it to the final boss fight that I couldn't ever beat! I tried a ton of times and just couldn't do it. It was a huge bummer. Maybe I'll try to play through it again one day and see how it goes lol I highly recommend Wave Race if you don't already have it. That's another I go back to all the time. It was really nice meeting you at SEGE. Thanks again for the stickers!

Diddy Kong Racing is godtier, and definitely better than Mario Kart 64. Really enjoyed hearing your picks here man! Some additional games I always revisit (on top of the several mentioned in your video) are Perfect Dark, Wave Race 64, 1080 Snowboarding, Top Gear Rally, Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Goldeneye 007, and Castlevania 64/Legacy of Darkness. 👍

This is going to gut some people in the comments but we have absolutely no love for the N64 so much so that we trade it all but two of our games for the system. We ended up keeping Concords bad for day and because I'm such a huge Donkey Kong fan Donkey Kong 64. Both of which I'm willing to commit to playing. And if I realize we made a huge mistake getting rid of the games we did, then there's always an N64 everdrive 😊 Appreciated your video. All the same and you know I feel the exact same way about Super Mario 64 or whatever the hell it's called 😂😂😂

For FPS's I'm going to go against the grain a little bit. Everyone knows about Perfect Dark but not enough people give credit to 007: World Is Not Enough. Very good campaign, plays a little bit better than Goldeneye does. Multiplayer still awesome. If ya like fighting games give Mace The Dark Age a go. Weapon based fighter with that signature cheesy Midway goodness. Lastly for racing games I love me some Ridge Racer 64.

Rogue Squadron 3D - The difficulty is perfect? I played the Windows version and for me, getting a gold medal in all the levels was impossible. The time limits and required shot accuracy are ridiculous. I only managed to get gold on maybe 1/4 of the levels. I had to use cheat codes to unlock the bonus levels because I knew there was no other way I'd ever see them. It's like if you take more 2-3 shots to take down each tie fighter, you won't make gold.

I bought my N64 as a Goldeneye 64 bundle back when that first came out and I really regretted it. Goldeneye 64 looked bad for the time, sounded bad for the time, controlled even worse, but at least there was multiplayer to share the misery of playing with others. I seem to be the only person who hates Goldeneye 64. There really isn't much I like on the N64 and you covered or at least mentioned most of them. Rogue Squadron is a game I like to pull down and play even today, the same with Conker's Bad Fur Day (a game I'm genuinely surprised Nintendo allowed on the system). The other is a game probably better played elsewhere and that's Resident Evil 2 but I love the Nintendo 64 version simply because every time I play it amazes me how the developers got the game on a cart.
