Will never forget the shock I felt as I watched The Normandy blow and Shep die for the first time after ME1's amazing conclusion. Wish I could to experience it again!

My issue with the scene has always been that it makes it seem like they had no idea what to do for a sequel if they were planning the sequels why not end the first game with the death of Shepard they even do a takeout of them dying at the end of 1 it feels like they just went back on the decision to write around why you have new companions

One of my favorite openings of any media. You're out there on your tried-and-tested ship with your crew, surprise attack, shocked at how quickly the Normandy gets wrecked...and then there's that moment you walk into the space-exposed room, with no sounds but the ones coming from your own suit, the full destruction right there in front of you. Follow up with a heroic action, get cut off from escape...wait, is Sheppard drifting off...heading for planetary atmosphere...suit has sprung a leak...cue piano music...TITLE CARD [bummmmmmmm]. The timing and execution was perfect. Just like that, the stakes and situation were totally upended, and then off we went from there!

@@NotThatJonesShow I somewhat agree, but then I think it allowed for ME to go from standalone to a saga (I do think I read somewhere that they hadn't originally planned for it to have sequels). The timeskip allowed to recruit other companions, and got us a new normandy as the first would have been too small for the increased crew. Plus it made a great narrative impact.

@@kolpoxj5651 they could've still given us a new ship without blowing up the original they could've even had a rivalry with the new captain of the original Normandy and Ashley or Kaiden whichever you chose would've had to deal with the mental aspect of you still being alive and if it was even really you they just did the laziest route possible because it was thrown on the team last minute and knowing Bioware they probably still waited till the last 3 months to even work on it

Mass Effect 2 came with the XBOX I got for Christmas 2010. I ignored it for months until I finally decided to try it, and I’ve been a fan ever since. I just finished LE two days ago and cried at the ending. Playing as an adult was so much fun (and meaningful) than just wanting to go to Omega to see the dancers 🤣❤️

Great video ! I remember how HYPED I was for the Me2 release. It delivered in SPADES, and I thoroughly enjoyed replaying it in the Legendary Edition.

ME2 was amazing. I waited outside a GameStop for the midnight release. One of the last games I preordered.

I never like to remember it this way because it makes me feel less like a mass effect fan, but I never played the first until I saw the trailers for the second. The marketing and what the game seem to offer blew me away and it made me go out and buy the first in preparation for this one. I was only partially through Mass effect 1 when 2 finally released and I just couldn't wait so I finished ME2 first without an imported save! Sacrilegious!

I love these games so much. It´s crazy that 14 years later still nobody even tried to replicate ME concept.

First two things that take over when you start playing are a truly truly artistic masterful use of Unreal Engine and how the narrative and dialogue just flow. And it gets better the further you travel. Even probing planets was somehow cool and artistically designed. It was such a smooth ride can't believe it's been 14 years. Bioware caught lightning in a bottle and it was the last time.

Such a surge of nostalgia. Im sitting in our summer house, we just bought a huge flat TV, and I get 3-4 hrs a day with it all to myself. It's sunny outside, birds are singing, and Im sweating bullets because I gotta scan some planets, and my alloted time is running out! All while I know that the next gameplay bit will yield the next story curve, but I just need to update my gear and SCAN THE DAMN PLANET! Srsly, that mechanic almost broke me) so much time spent sending probes and rotating a ball lol)

The year is 2010. I buy mass effect 2 on release foolishly expecting more than the last The combst is greatly improved and all around its an enjoyable game But sadly despite 2 discs its yet another game for the trade in pile as while very fun is not worth replaying frequently and 100%ing a single run takes less than a week. While a very fun game it was not worth $60. Which is why we saw the game drop to the $30 range within a few weeks of release.
