It Runs, It Doesn't Run... "Stone Soup" 1962 Dodge Lancer Revival 2 - Carb Overhaul, Points And More
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I'd really like to be done with this project. And Vic over at @FunctionalHistories would be happy to let me off the hook and move the car on to the next KZreadr as it is. But it's really important to me that before it leaves my care, Stone Soup fires up and runs well-ish, and can easily be driven on and off of trailers and into shops and such. So on today's episode, let's see if we can make that vision a reality. Spoiler alert: that might be much easier said than done.

Thanks for your time, money, knowledge and hard work Jamie to help Vic out… there’s strength in numbers. People will be amazed at the transformation of this Lancer by Sept, 2024. I have a radiator from my ‘62 Valiant I will donate since I’m going the 340 route with it. I’ll also straighten out the grill, when it gets passed on next. 👍 It’s people like you Jamie that help make the world go ‘round. Thanks brother! 😃
In the late sixties my babysitter had that exact same car, I got to ride in it several times ,and I always loved the way they looked, hers was passed down from her parents and was mint . I sure do miss my childhood and youth. Was a great time. Cheers Sir
Thanks Jamie for sacrificing your Saturday night to make content to entertain us couch taters, especially when you could have been planted on your couch with a guitar in your lap and a beer on the table next to you.

Had four door 1962 Lancer in the early 90s. Used it as my daily driver for a couple of years. Drove it 25000 km a year. I live in northern Sweden, had 14x6 inch steel rims with snowtires on. It ran like a dream. When i met my first wife she was so embarrassed over that car. SO UGLY she said. I loved it and i still miss it. Hard to find in these in Sweden so now i drive old Chevys Not at winter thoug. 😊
Man that's awesome good old one barrel
Thats one dusty road toad. Its going to be fun to see it progress. What an interesting concept of fixing stuff then sending it on. If someone need help getting it somewhere, has the equipment to move it but not time, I could be persuaded to fly out and take it to its next stop. That goes for any leg of the journey.

Beljames, there's opportunity to help move the car from the west to North Dakota. If you google stone soup, you'll find the web site for the build
The longer you look, the better it looks. I do like those nice big wheel well openings. With a good running SB, 4 spd and an 8 3/4, stripped out, caged with some fat tires all around and some suspension work it would make a great lite weight (no acid dipping necessary) Touring Car.

I’ll be doing that exact setup with my ‘62 2dr Valiant with a 340. Plus chopping the top and reversing the doors… 😎👊🏻
I love those old Lancers! The fact that you were able to get this one to move under its own power (albeit just barely) is reason enough to make it road-worthy. Can’t wait for the next video!❤
I've always loved the way those cars looked.
What a rig this thing is. Gonna be cool to see how this ends up with all different people working on it.
Jamie, big THANK YOU for the updated needed ingredients list for the Stone Soup! I have found one of the elusive 1962 Lancers that will be willing to give up a few parts to make this soup much more tasty! I need to go harvest what I can and having the list will, maybe, let me do that in one trip
1962 makes it older than I am, not much, but I'll tell ya, I've got some parts on me that are locked up, leaky & bent, so carry on, Mad MotorMagician Man, carry on....
I used to be a transmission installer in the early 80s ... I've had my share of the snapon man
Some of those cars were still on the road when I was a kid. I've always liked the unusual body style, and still do.

You broke the fourth wall. Audiences love that.
UNLIMITED POWERRRR well maybe I am 100% with you on the no cooling lines on a rad with a manual. Sure clutch replacement is always fun but you never have to touch a drop of atf or have mystery leaks from who in the hell knows where. Oh and ive never had to replace an input or an output shaft seal on a manual before but autos? Forget it
It’s a runner!
I really want to follow the progress on this car, because it's starting at such a challenging point. Rust, rust, and more rust, and that's just a taste of the work to be done. But, dammit I am rooting for this car. These 60-62 A bodies are just so adorable.
I love the 62 Lancer! Always wanted one. But could only ever find old Darts. Love a horizontal hemi!
I love that ol wreck. It's gonna be great.
So far enjoying the Lancer shenanigans, especially with it's rare optional feature to spray fuel on the manifold to set itself on fire to get the attention of the local fire department, neat! 👍

But then I saw pictures of this one and I just knew it was a good idea, that it has that look the internet loves, and that I could make it run. And I don’t have to build the whole car! That’s the beauty of this deal. No one person, shop, or channel has to do more than they can. Everybody grabs one or two smaller projects on the car, and hopefully it all gets done. How handy are you with plumbing solder and a propane torch? those old copper brass rads are fairly easy to fix if you have trouble finding another rad.
@DeadDodgeGarage
2 ай бұрын
Relatively. Haha. I know it, but this one is like… really, really bad. Multiple tubes broken off at the tank, and the entire thing is packed full of muck. If it was just a couple holes, that’s something we could deal with.

@960wattoffgridrv
2 ай бұрын
copper wire strands with soldering will patch up a badly damaged radiator! It's one of those slower projects but it's far cheaper than ordering a new rad. I have a 1979 winnebago itasca 454 chevy. The radiator looks like something out of a cabover semi and the heater core is bigger than a small car radiator. For me it was far cheaper to solder it. Just saying that it is a doable option. I'm in Canada where everything is roughly double or triple the cost of buying from the US.
Little off topic, but have you been able to establish a new-engine break in procedure after the cam lobe incident? You probably documented this already, but I can't seem to find- Thx
@DeadDodgeGarage

I did a whole video on it. My actual break in procedure didn’t change, but build procedures did - cam and lifter selection is the important part. No Comps or other off the shelf brands. NOS or cam grinder direct only.

Correction, Jamie. The Dodge Dart is Red/White, the Lancer is White and Rust..It's also so ugly, it's hard to look at for long without my eyes hurting. 😂😂 It makes no sense like it's not fully formed...in fact it's deformed!!! Almost like it was meant to be a 4 door, but they forgot to install the back doors. I'm afraid if you pressure wash it, it may disintegrate....I guess that would be one way to get rid of it for sure 👍

You’re going to put a Hellcat in front of a 904? I’ll say a prayer for it. I do realize that it must already be built to the hilt - but still. I have no idea what that swap will cost. A lot. So, so much. $20k in parts and labor would be a good place to start.
