@@metagross9092 It's even worse. One of the loading texts in GH2 is something like 'Now with improved HOPOs!'. They're not lying. They're completely fucked in GH1. In GH2 you have to not only consider the tiny hit window, but after you hit the note before the first hopo, you can't even press down any fret without breaking the hopo combo. That sucks. Anchoring is basically impossible with hopos in the first two games. GH3, on the other hand, is so much better than the first two in terms of technology.

*Also worth noting for the intro:* Guitar Hero 2 has a bug known as the "strumming limit": The game is incapable of registering all strums if you strum over a certain speed (roughly 15.5 NPS). This bug is what causes the strumming solo of this song to be so difficult since it's hard to coordinate precise strumming speed in groups of two notes, especially alongside HOPOs. It also causes one song - "Trogdor" - to be more or less unFCable on the North American version of the game. In Europe, the limit is raised as a consequence of PAL conversion, so songs like this and "Trogdor" are easier - though still hard - on the EU version.

@@kelleroid No, it isnt. It's simply a number that is based off the video format (thus the difference between PAL and NAT versions). An oversight is me coding in a health potion that you have to jump to but forgetting I put a limit on that area that you cannot jump. A bug is me coding in a health potion but due to an error it spawns outside the map. Note that the NPS cap issue also happens in RB with Green Grass and High Tides. It's simply Harmonix style of programming and not paying attention to the NPS they place in the games.

The timing in this game should be the default for any of the the guitar heroes, the amount of time you get in the later games and clone hero is just fucking ridiculous, you don't need that much to hit a note in a rhythm game.

Yeah, I really want them to have an engine modifier akin to what FoFiX had, but with an indicator on the screen so you can tell whether it's being used and an engine that isn't just performance mode more or less.

I'm legitimately curious if a mode where the song charter would be able to define the valid hit space on a per note basis (so they could lay back on crazy solos, but more technical rhythmic sections could be tightened up) with visible hitboxes throughout the whole song would make sense or be too finicky for it to be useful...

It only took me 11 years to learn how mafia works.

I remember this being my first big boy FC after Raining Blood, got it like 40 min after first playing GH2 and it's arguably the biggest fluke of my GH "career". Good job, any GH2 FC is a pain in the ass to get lol.

What's the actual timing window in time? Like, how many milliseconds ahead or behind a note could I strum and still have it count? I looked up and got answers of about 80 milliseconds of windows width, but I'd like to get this confirmed (mainly because I play stepmania and want to have a good comparison).

It's funny how accustomed we become to the more forgiving engines. I remember this being the only 8th tier song I could FC back in the day (I think this was before Guitar Hero 3 came out?) . You're infinitely better than I ever was, but I definitely had the strum timing down back then.

With GH2 being the first GH I played, and then seeing you hit notes on Clone Hero that are way off what I would consider the mark, I kinda figured the window for hitting notes in GH2 was smaller. Thanks for confirming what I thought before with that bit at the beginning.

I heard it was a creative decision to use covers because originally they wanted the game to have a serious story about a band rising to fame and that doesn't make much sense when you have a different sounding vocalist for every song. As a story it makes more sense having the same band play every song but people don't really play the game for that so they changed direction later on.

GH2 is my favorite, it brings back so many memories, it was my first GH and I was 6 years old and my whole family played it was great. My dad had to help me beat free bird on medium. Never got to expert on this one. But by GH3 I was getting 5 stars on expert. Wish I could play this one again
