    Hot take: Kawhi leaving the raptors was low key one of the biggest butterfly affects ever and no one talks about it. My take: This is about as stacked a league as we've ever had. Something like 26/30 teams have at least 1 star player worthy of building a franchise around in the long run, many teams have multiple. Very exciting

    i had the same feeling some time ago, normally half of the teams wouldnt have any intangible talent in their rosters, but today even bottomfeeders like rockets have jalen green, pacers have haliburton, even wagner/anthony makes it promising and detroit has cade, all of these guys have all star potential. not adding the 1000 picks thunder ahs aswell.

  • @SDesWriter

    @SDesWriter

    My take.....the league is mostly full of players who specialize in something that keeps them in the game at this level while the overall ability of the player is half-ass at best. The league is soft with multiple rule changes to discourage defense and the possibility of stars getting hurt. For every KD that goes into traffic to take a higher percentage mid-range shot, you've got 5 hacks who are afraid to go to the rim on a fast break so they pull up at the 3 point line and shoot with 3 defenders under in the lane. A handful of real great and well rounded players, and a bunch of guys putting up stats while not being guarded or who padded their stats for years by excessive traveling and kicking their legs out to get get foul calls. LeBron is the current generation's "GOAT" and he flops like a European soccer hack.

    Hot take: Luka is the literal definition of MVP. When he can drag a team of role players to the 4th seed, and then to the WCF. Without Luka, that certainly doesn't happen, as the mavericks eat sleep and breathe Luka. Hot take: there aren't enough teams in the NBA for how much talent there is and how much the game has grown in the past few decades. There were 27 teams in 1989 to 29 teams in 1995 to 30 teams all the way since 2004. However, the NBA has no reason to make more teams and try to start new franchises as economically it wouldn't benefit them much to start over with new teams that would take a while for anybody to actually get invested in.

    The thing about that '08 Celtics team? And maybe my favorite thing to ever happen in the NBA? They flat out made the Lakers quit in game 6 of the Finals. Let me repeat that. They made Kobe Bryant, one of THE all-time NBA greats with one of the fiercest competitive streaks and killer instincts to ever lace 'em up just quit. Like, not take it a little bit easy in a game they were clearly going to lose. They made them lay down and die, like a dog who goes and hides under the porch when he knows his time is up. From the wiki: "Boston dominated in numerous statistical categories, including rebounds (48-29, with a 14-2 disparity in offensive boards), turnovers (7-19), steals (18-4), assists (33-16) and blocks (4-0). Five Celtics finished in double figures....the Celtics only turned the ball over seven times and set a Finals record with 18 steals, and every Boston player who saw action scored."

    Most NBA stars don't care about the fans. MJ famously said how he could never take a game off b/c there were people in those stands who waited/saved up for years, just to see him play once. In addition, I think back in the day, most athletes played different sports year round, meaning different muscles were getting worked out at different times and no particular body parts/muscles/tendons were being overworked. Today's athletes are mostly made to focus on the one sport that gives them the best shot at a scholarship and directed by their parents to just focus on that, 365 days a year, which means certain body parts getting over worked and susceptible to injury.

    i second this. I believe that sports have evolved so much that there’s no such thing as a bad team anymore. There’s at least one All-Star type caliber player in every single NBA team. players chemistry is not a problem anymore as most of these players have played together or against each other one In high school &/or in college. look at the regular season stats. look at how competitive the East is now when five years ago people could say the East was not competitive at all. Look at the Nets. Have one of the best rosters yet they have to compete in the playing in order to make it to the playoffs. Now look at the suns. Three years ago they were one of if not the worst team in the league. No they have the best record in the league. Same thing with my Milwaukee Bucks. We literally developed one of the best players to ever play in this league and went from one of the worst to the NBA champions. And now is serious contender every year for the championship. The only difference between the Suns and the Bucks is that the Suns acquired a veteran all star, and most likely a Hall of Famer, who instilled resilience and confidence in a young team. But Devin Booker is their developed star and they would not be anything without him in the roster. The league is in its best years and I don’t see it going down anytime soon.

If my assignment has to do a reverse, fade away, pivot 30 times, whatever EVERY single bucket then I'm doing my job. By the time 4th quarter hits, they're tired as hell or have been sitting more than usual to rest up and I just hope my team capitalized off that and we're up 20+. Eh. Duncan played 100+ more games than Shaq. He has the benefit of longevity (which is outside of the consideration of being a better rebounder) so obviously Duncan will have a better rate. That's the same logic as with the point averages vs total points, it's unfair to say that Duncan is the better rebounder than Shaq just because of the total number of rebounds alone if we factor in their games played.

    Thats not quite true. Rebounding rate (= Rebounding percentage) includes the number of games played ( or even more exactly : the minutes played) in the formula.

    @@fabianstohr1080 So rate = the proportion of rebounds per game and games played? If that's the case then I concede.

    The formula is is bit complicated: 100 x Player Rebounds x Team Minutes Played) ÷ (Player Minutes Played x (Team Total Rebounds + Opposing Team Total Rebounds)) Nevertheless it does cover, the minutes a player has played ( and so the number of games a player has played if you look at it career wise). So yes

    It's really hard to judge, because in different eras, rebounds have been different. For example, in the 60's and 70's, because it was a big man's league, often rebounds were harder to get around the rim because players worked harder for them (because they often resulted in scoring so boards were more valuable). In the modern 3pt era, on average rebounds are longer, so you can't just park under the hoop to get every board. So I don't think you can really debate rebounds across eras.
