This great game, thanks to Vic, the community, & streamers like you Das, appears to have no boundaries to how much better this game keeps getting. Btw, now you can even rename one's leaders!

The beastmen and demons have a lot of HP, those would be rough to deal with early on before you get better techs in

The one thing I dislike is the nerf to Gas Powered Small Arms. They already had a hard time competing where they were before.

Are those like AI generated images for the potraits and such? Hmmgh. Either way, I like the old ones better

So, this is like civ1 on steroids?

It's still a shame that you can't just load the game as at least one of the majors (if not minors). While I suspect this stems from AI majors playing by different rules (like no stratagem generation), it's still weird to not have this when basically every other 4X does - for instance (modded?) Civ4 even has a challenge setting where once you become the strongest player you are forced to then jump civ to lead the weakest one, and do this several times in order to win the challenge ! Or in MP, being able to easily replace human players by AI, or vice-versa (they do make a mess, but it's often still better than having the MP game abandoned).

Is there a way to get the beta via GOG? Or is this limited to direct purchase copies?

This definately needs to be addressed. Apparently it is too much work to update GOG but I don't really follow this logic as surely the game files are the same regardless of whether it is Steam, GOG or direct purchase

@@grahambarnet750 They are not. That's why GOG is so often is behind in the patch versions of games they are selling - devs have to make a special GOG version each time.

@@memyshelfandeye318 As far as I can tell the GOG version isn't even up to 1.25d yet. So that's a mess. Seems not to have been worth getting the game at all.

I just want to be able to get diplo agreements where I can move troops through another’s territory without being at war with them. I can’t even spy on an empire with a recon plane without first being at war with them. Kind of negates the usefulness of a recon plane.

I just wished the game doesn't give the AI such a huge cheating advantage. I don't have the time to get 100% expert level in the game, in order to be competitive.

Green planetoids are easy mode. The world's so tiny you can steal half the territory on the map in like 3 turns.

It's not as bad as it sounds. The manual goes through in detail the differences (the player also gets some advantages the AI doesn't get). But the game overall isn't easy - even on easy mode. :)

@@Vogt156 I do not frequent 'Discord' that often & am not very adept at navigating it. My source per communicating about Shadow Empire is via the Matrix (preferred) & Steam forums. Multiplayer, for me, is done through email...very easy to transfer files this way.

Update, after it called me back out of autistic obsession, and I've played a good several hundred hours more indulging myself, largely in debug mode. The UI is still horrible, but the game's rather stunning depth has somewhat trumped my reticence to put up with such issues, and having cheated my way into a deeper understanding of the game, I feel much more okay about its weaknesses in presentation. The manual and in-game directions are pretty thick, but using debug mode as its own sort of tutorial, I've reached a pretty decent understanding of the game's intricacies. It's a pretty fun game, once I got past my utter incomprehension of the poorly localized text, and such. Original post: "The game's UI is kind of ugly and very monotonous to click through. It feels about as well thought-out as Master of Orion III. Makes sense in a vacuum, from a narrow perspective. I like a lot of what it tries to do, and I spent perhaps 50-60 hour messing about in it, but I don't think I'd call it a good game. Maybe in a few years I'll try it again."

Yes, the UI/UX is a bit clunky but I think most wargame games tend to be like that. I guess I'm just used to it now. :)
