I didn't realize that trail complexity had changed a bit, back in the day "trailsoffroad" had that as a 8. Either way, 7 or 8, that's right up there with the toughest in Colorado. I think the only one harder is Carnage Canyon out on the west slope. This was a ton of fun filming with you guys, I am legit impressed with the Bronco and can't wait to test it out myself on all the trails here in Colorado. Hopefully I have one by next summer. we'll see!! GREAT VIDEO!!

However, the overwhelming majority of those who will actually take their Jeeps and Broncos off road will never come close to running a trail that difficult. So whether it's stock for stock or modified versus modified, the differences would only be seen at such extremes that only a tiny fraction of buyers will ever see them. Truth is, a modded Bronco on 37's and a modded Wrangler on 37's will do far more difficult and dangerous terrain than anyone I know has ever done. I'd say you'd almost have to try a buggy line to find the winner.

Ford did very well with the new Bronco. I was impressed with the off-road performance of this particular model...Sasquatch with 35" tires off the assembly line. In addition, it is good to see that Ford addressed and resolved some of the nuisances of the Jeep Wrangler (exterior mirrors not mounted on the doors). I really do not get what all of the negative uproar is regarding a Solid Front Axle suspension / steering at highway speeds. I have no problem driving my Jeep Wrangler 75+ mph down the highway for 8 to 10 hours. I have never felt exhausted or tired. Sounds like whimpering complaints from city / urban guys to me. Although the Bronco will hold a line going 70+ mph down a highway better than the Wrangler, it is possible to greatly reduce the movement in steering with aftermarket upgrades ( PSC steering, Dynatrac ball joints, etc.). IMO, the Wrangler suspension with Dana 44 axles or Dana M210 and Dana M220 axles rides very well on pavement...so, the Bronco suspension with IFS axle offers only nominally more comfortable ride.....but, I am use to driving a Ford F350 SRW 4WD truck. The other drawback with the Bronco is the twin turbo to obtain HP from a small engine. Nice to have the weight reduction and extra ponies.....but definitely not at the expense of reliability, durability and longevity. I would definitely be in the market for a Bronco.....bit only IF Ford would place a place naturally aspirated "push rod" V8 under the hood. Ford would be wise to produce TWO smaller versions of the 7.3L Godzilla "push rod" V8.......a 6.5L for the F150 and a 5.7L for the Bronco.

@@15Jeep Good (potential) idea, however, ANY time that a "tried and true" engine design is modified in pretty much ANY way, (especially making it into a different displacement version, which is basically then an entirely different engine altogether), when changing the overall engine like that, (even if the modified version is basically the same basic "design"), doing that almost ALWAYS also totally changes the long term reliability and overall "robustness" of any engine. That simple fact has been shown to be the case MANY times over, with quite a few different engines from quite a few different manufacturers over the decades... I guess if Ford ever DID/DOES actually do anything like that, and actually makes smaller displacement versions of that V-8 like you mention, then time would definitely tell if them doing that was a good idea... or not... I would be open to that idea too, however, one can't automatically assume that any newer, or smaller versions of that engine would be anywhere close to as good or long term reliable as the original one! (unfortunately) (I mean maybe they could be, but who really knows, unless and until it's actually attempted and the new versions were around for awhile.)

  • @15Jeep

@@JoeJ-8282 I should have been more specific. Basically, the same 'concept' ..... meaning, two other versions of "push rod" V8 design with less displacement for lower weight applications. Engines that can provide low end torque for 4WD vehicles.. way better than high end forced induction...and more reliable, durable and increased longevity.

The Bronco seems great, and I'm glad it's out there because it'll keep Jeep working hard to continue to be the benchmark. There's way more to the IFS/solid axle debate that you guys aren't aware of. IFS is much, MUCH more expensive and complex to lift, and in the end simply does not offer the same articulation as a comparable solid axle setup. Yes, you can have lockers to help even the playing field, but the cost and complexity is something that the average joe needs to take into account. I mean for the cost of lifting an IFS rig you can usually get a lift, wheel, and tires for a solid axle vehicle. That's a big deal to us 99-percenters. Second, a HUGE benefit to solid axle setups is that, when the axle is being articulated one tire is being pushed up by an obstacle while the other tire on that axle is being forced down, ONTO THE GROUND to give better traction. You can see that not happening with the Bronco throughout your video. Watch it over again. You'll see the Bronco 'flexing' the front end and the front end will slide sideways off an obstacle. That's an inherent weakness of IFS, and a big deal to those of us who are 'wheeling our hard-earned dollars. Sliding sideways off an obstacle can be catastrophic.

Some additional notes -------------> Ford did very well with the new Bronco. I would definitely be in the market for a Bronco.....but only IF Ford would place a naturally aspirated "push rod" V8 under the hood. Ford would be wise to produce TWO smaller versions of the 7.3L Godzilla "push rod" V8.......a 6.5L for the F150 and a 5.7L for the Bronco.

@@15Jeep I agree. I love turbos, but not in this application. Off road I don't want to wait for forced induction to spool up. I need torque from idle. And yes, the reliability isn't as good when an engine is high-strung. In 10 years the Wrangler will still be in production, the Bronco probably won't.

One thing that Jeep has more or less, sometimes more, sometimes less, kept in sight is ease of repair in the field if need be. More parts means more to break. I liked the old Bronco. I also think Roman's analogy of wide receiver to line backer worked well. Both vehicles did the job.

@@theeddorian I have to agree with you. Since Jeep has been doing this since the '40's they intimately know what is best out there in the trail. Ford is jumping on the bandwagon (third time) to cash in. Trust me, when Jeep is releasing the 90th anniversary Wrangler, the Bronco won't be in the picture. I hope it will be, but I doubt it will be.

The best part...the absolute best part....When you Roman told your son Tommy you were proud of him and having the balls to off road the Bronco. I, growing up got beaten, yelled at and told so many times how stupid I was by my old man. I am not asking for pity, just showing how bad and good it can be with Father/son relationships. Roman, you are more man than probably many by just one kind gesture.👍👍🥂

What I always appreciate most is someone who respects his/her vehicle enough so as to not abuse it while off-road (or on-road) driving. Tommy gets the job done. And his vehicle never looks as if it's been abused! Way to go, Tommy!

Great content guys! One of the guys made a comment on the way up the obstacle to lock it into first gear. You dont really need to do that with the bronco, the goat modes and the 10 speed have enough gearing and power band to make an easy transition of torque so that you keep in an ideal torque range. I thought I was the only one with a first edition hitting the trails, but glad to see more of them. Looking forward to see you guys out there! 👍

If I had not started the build I might still want a base sasquatch manual but it is 20grand more than my estimate for my current build. Probably wouldn't like all the electronics. Have 1995 Jeep 2.5 YJ, 1998 S10 4.3 2wd, and 1982 K10 350 with new Silver Sport .

Finally, a great challenge for the Bronco. Up untill this point there has been milder trails that kept all vehicles near the same level. It gave fuel for trolls to argue that lesser capable vehicles were just as good for less money. If they did the same as the Bronco on mild trails, it must be as good? Flawed thinking people for sure. Those very same vehicles wouldn't fair well here at all. Great video TFL.

For all who keep trying to compare Bronco to Wrangler, there is not comparison! A jeep is a jeep and started life as a jeep back in the WWII days and the bronco was never jeep like until they copied the JK / JL and added refinements. That said I'm actually not putting down the bronco. I think it will do well, ride better on road due to the IFS and still allow people to feel like they're in a jeep even if they never go off road. But fact still remains, a jeep is a jeep and only those who understand that get it. Great video and good way to highlight the differences everyone talks about (wheels up, etc). I love my JLUR on 4.5 inch lift and 39's, but I"ll probably have Bronco added to the garage just to say I own one and eventually when the aftermarket catches up, I'll do a solid front axle conversion (because you know it's coming) and put it on 42's and take it to the mall Lol. Just kidding about the mall. I'll drive the mess out of either the jeep or the bronco. Hey we only live once, live life to the fullest. At least with live in the greatest country in the world and have the options of what vehicle we want to buy assuming we work hard and prioritize life priorities. God Bless us all.!!!!

IMHO you're wrong, there is a clear comparison and it's more than obvious to even Mopar because the brand hasn't seen so many sudden changes until someone actually made them get off their ass and do something. Ford built roughly half of your WW2 Jeeps so they happen to know a thing or two about the market and will continue to push it further and further - Jeep didn't have a V8 since AMC owned them! The mentality of it's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand, is part of what is wrong with that community, plain and simple - we wheelers all have a lot in common, how we decided to get out and challenge ourselves and enjoy the outdoors is more important than how we get there. This 6th gen Bronco is still in it's development infancy and I'm curious on how far the IFS can be pushed, IFS cars do win KOH, so there is something to it. Throwing superduty axles under one of these is the obvious simple choice but I want to give IFS a go before making that leap - smashing over everything in front of you on 43's gets old and I'm actually having more fun in smaller tire rigs, 37's seem to be the sweet spot to keep things challenging. Either way, the Bronco is good for Jeep and vice versa, hopefully all of this attention will draw other manufactures back into the game and we can really see how far the OEM's push things.
