Attach a collection bag to that sawmill and keep all the sawdust. 100% better for the mill that it's contained and not left to clog up every working part of the mill. You can use the sawdust in outdoor toilets , on garden beds, in chicken coops, on snow paths, or sell /trade with locals. A multitude of uses for sawdust.. use it , instead of clogging up everything with it and its dust. You're so good and versatile already ,this will just add to your family business/ channel running ever more efficiently!🇦🇺🤗🙏💞👌👍✌️👏🇺🇸

Absolutely! We're trying out different ways of collecting it! This particular day, we collected on a tarp, which worked...but wasn't very efficient. We actually rigged up a bucket the next time we ran the mill and were able to collect a whole garbage can full of sawdust! It's still not perfect...but it's working! We actually only have composting toilets here on the Ridge, so yea...it comes in perfectly handy for that! We also use it around the homestead for various purposes! Great minds think alike! Thank You!

That piece of machinery was probably costly but in the long you can make money off it!! Selling lumber? ❤ Mamma Carolyn
@WhiteRockNATION
4 ай бұрын
Good Morning Mamma Carolyn!!! It honestly was not as costly as you would think!!! With the extension, all the tools, a pack of blades, etc... it was under $4500! WAY cheaper than we thought! We'd spend that and then some on lumber needed for the homestead. Still not a price to just throw away or sneeze at. But in the grand scheme of things, not a bad investment for sure! And MAYBE sell some...but I don't know if that's anything we'd like to do? Mill for others, or sell projects we make with it...absolutely!
Milling is so cool 😎 😊❤

Can you use the forks to put logs on the mill??? Would definitely make things go a little quicker and easier for you.
@WhiteRockNATION
4 ай бұрын
We've held off using the forks because it would be more dangerous for Tara. If they started to roll, she couldn't stop them. They're just clamp on forks, so the control of them is just done with the bucket. We're definitely open for new ways to make it easier though for sure! Maybe a combination of ways will eventually end up working!

I honestly just depends on the log??? Some logs are punkier than others. These logs were mostly cut around the 16ft mark cause that's all the track that we have. And if it's JUST cleaning down to a cant, and we're lucky, we can get 5ish 2x6x16 out of one log. But with the age of the logs, some logs would only give us 3-4. Thanks!!

Hello Annetta! That young man is Jackson! Jackson's mom still lives in Arizona and he has a rental back in Arizona...so he went back there for the winter. We're in touch daily/weekly and we miss him dearly! He's hoping to be back on the Ridge by late March early April! And the young lady is Jenna! She's our daughter! She's still here and you'll see her from time to time on camera and in our LIVES. Jacob is also here with us and is our oldest son. They both work and doing their thing, but you'll occasionally see Jacob on camera also!

@@annettafick2100 Ohhhh...yea...she ended up ghosting Jackson as he was trying to help her. He had all sorts of appt set up for her for assistance and found her a Womans shelter. We later saw her back on the streets. He was pretty upset. We had a long talk about not letting it stop him from helping, but maybe be a little more discerning in the future? His heart was in the right place. But sometimes people don't really want the help if it's a HAND UP vs a HAND OUT.

I hope this doesn’t offend you. But…. I watch you tube for the entertainment and personalities of the creators. The learning is wonderful as well. The music however….if I wanted to listen to the radio I wouldn’t be on you tube. Seemingly, that seems to be the new trend. I personally don’t care for it one bit. Thank You!!! We truly appreciate your feedback! We TRY to do a good mix of both. But with sawmilling and running the tractor...there's not a lot of opportunity to actually hear what we're saying. FOR US, we are music lovers...and try to use what inspires us while still getting work done on the Ridge. We've always said that BUILDING our homestead is our first priority...and the camera takes second place. Sometimes we just get at it and forget we have cameras rolling. That's when the music comes in handy! :) I know there are a lot of channels that are more instructional in nature. We are not instructional by any means. Half the time we don't know WHAT we're doing. lol The channels are our "video diary" for our kids and grandkids to get to know us when we aren't around any more. Through music, and our videos...they might know us just a little bit more!

We've only gotten one nasty comment late fall that really hurt Tara's feelings and was just meant to be mean and hateful. We fully realize that as we grow, the keyboard warriors will come out of the woodwork. So Tara's trying to mentally prepare for a little thicker skin! lol Thankfully, this was not one of them!
