Clips from spring break. Finished my lift by installing springs from the front of a V8 jeep in the rear of the trooper. Gave me about two inches. took these clips and threw them together.

    There's something about these trucks I missed...the simple yet elegant box styling...and the name Trooper. Wow!

    they were very well equipped from the factory too. compare a base model trooper to a base model jeep product of the time period and the trooper will always kick butt! Also fully boxed frame, limited slip, powerful motor. they are pretty sweet!

    Cody, Thank you so much for all the great information on your Isuzu Trooper. I worked putting on events for the American Isuzu Motor Crop. of El Monty Ca. We did what we called the Isuzu Lift-A-Truck contest at many car shows and some Muscle Expos. We would remove the rear bumper and add an olympic bar where the bumper would be. The strongmen would like the truck of the ground for time. The winner would get $500 to $1000 cash from Isuzu Corp...... I have owned Isuzu vehicles from Pups, space cabs, trooper's. I now have a 1998 Trooper fro my fitness business. After reading your information on installing springs from the front of a V8 jeep in the rear of my trooper. I will be sending you photos soon. Again thank you! My Name is Mike Glass of Mike Glass Productions(R) Since 1977. I am on face book.

    No. I used to live in the US but I recently moved to the Dominican Republic. My Trooper was imported from the Philippines. It has a 4JG2 engine. Go on Google and Wikipedia Isuzu Trooper. You'll see all the versions they have.

    At the worst I'll get 12 mpg, at best I'll get 19. Not the worst but could be better. Adding manual hubs to the front end helped my mileage the most

    Cody Shell yea that kinda gas mileage would bother me lol. It’s a beautiful truck though, reminds me of the land cruiser with the shape and size. If it had better gas mileage I would definitely pick one up and keep it for a long time!

    It's a fun area, There are lots of interesting little places around the southwest. the trooper... is a trooper! it will get through anything! My oil burning problem is getting worse though. I'm starting to see smoke (the CAT is probably pretty roasted). I have 164,000 miles. I'll keep it topped off with oil for the meantime. Considering rebuilding my motor and fixing the issue, or getting a rebuild from a 2002 troop. i just with isuzu got their dang motor right. other than that it's solid!

    Mine burns oil too. All Isuzu's burn. My 88 burned, my girlfriends 97 trooper burns, and my 98 burns a quart every 150 miles! the problem is the drain back holes in the rings, the issue was fixed in 2002. there are a few pages on planet isuzu forums with ways to keep your motor clean and try to slow down the burning. nothing has really worked for me though, i just need a rebuild. with more drain back holes! either pistons from a 2002 or have them drilled with a drill press on your current ones.

    Looks like a great place for the Trooper. I have a stock '99... interesting beasts aren't they? There are things I want to improve, other things that annoy me about it (or make me worry about repairs, costs...) but damn it surprises me with what it can climb and go through also. Where is this video shot? What size tires? Are you in 4 high or 4 low on the rocks? 4high on the sand?

    Cody Shell Thanks for the quick reply! How much lift did those coils give you? You recommend going that route instead of using coil spacers?

  • @CodyShell

    @CodyShell

    9 жыл бұрын

    ***** No worries! It gave me about 1.5 to 2 inches of lift. It's cheaper than OME springs! I like them more than spacers because they are stiffer. All you have to do is grind the little pigtails off on the springs. of course the front is super easy to lift. Crank the torsion bars and get an alignment

  • @CodyShell

    @CodyShell

    9 жыл бұрын

    Freddie Lopez It was a little pricey, $3,000. But that was becasue I kept my old motor (it still ran) the core on that was $500. the motor came with a 3 year unlimited mile warranty. it seemed like the best option

    this trooper is a 1998. They are great trucks. if you are going to get one make sure you check how much oil it burns. mine drinks oil. look for one up to 1997, and a 2002. dont get a 1998, 99, 00, or an 01. bad motors.

    to all of you that use this model trooper don't go over 3000 rpm use no smoke sticky stuff and your trooper will stop drinking oil like crazy you will more or less make 2000 miles and use only 1/2 q of oil

    what is no smoke sticky stuff? it's hard to keep it at low rpms all the time, especially with all the power that the 3.5 has. but i have noticed that if you keep it down the consumption is less

    im sure its your baby and you didn't want to wreck it but ill tell ya you can absolutely burn things down to the ground (metaphor for recklessly driving like a crazy person at unsafe speeds) and they don't give one singular shit. on my may long I spent the weekend at the bogs ripping through 4 feet of mud, scrambling up steep loose gravely hills, burning 100+ kilometers an hour over sand dunes, smashing my own path through tight forests, sending it over huge jumps and at the end of it all ramming mercilessly it through old camping trailers and boats at a local dump and it still refused to die. it was one hundred percent stock. just saying dude.
