ISUZU D-MAX HSP Tailgate Lock Central Locking Install - 2021 DMAX X-TERRAIN Build Series #2

In this vid we show how to install a HSP Tailgate Lock Central Locking Install on our 2021 Isuzu D-Max. For some crazy reason on the D-Max and other utes like Ford Ranger ute, Toyota Hilux ute, Nissan Narvara ute not all the ute tail gates are part of the central locking. This is made even worse if you have yet another key for the roller shutter. But never fear, HSP is here to solve all our problems!! :)

😀 About VideoShowMeHow
-----------------------------------------------
⏩ Where did this start?
I really enjoy tinkering with different projects - they usually require a whole bunch of research and learning along the way. It's satisfying on doing a thing and standing back and going 'Yeah! Totally did that!'. I had a bunch of mates asking 'how did you know how to do that?' and 'I couldn't never do that myself so I thought; I need to start something where I can help others that might be thinking the same thing :)
⏩ What will you find here?
The purpose is simply to make these videos as top quality and helpful as I can. They will always be free, there's ZERO agenda and the only motive is to try and upload what I would want to watch to help with that particular project. I'm also keen to keep building this little community and will try to answer all questions when asked - fire away :)
⏩ What's with the gloves?
Not after any KZread fame here which is why I'm not in the vids - they're not about me they're about the how-to! I used the gloves for the first couple of projects I filmed which just happened to be messy ones and it kinda just became a thing. Plus adds a little more personality I guess :)
New videos are being uploaded regularly so if there's something you'd like to see, have Questions and/or Comments drop me a line.
Cheers guys.

Had a small issue with this one (I got my car on Thursday) I cannot for the life of me get the loom through that bloody rubber grommet on the firewall. So I have stopped and reset and I will look at it later. I also put in the tailgate storage, bit of a pain getting the alignment sorted correctly, but it is in and finished now. Tailgate struts, on the left hand side, one of the screws was so tight it stripped the face, so now I will have to drill it out and replace it before I can put the left side strut in. Fuel filter in and done, putting the inline adapter into the original pipe, what a pain. Window module in and done. Perfect. Bonnet struts in and done. Munji hard intercooler pipes, in and done. Rear indicators and rear lights replaced with led's. Have the catch can and the UHF sitting on the table, but I'm a bit over it now so I think I will go out and have a few beers with mates before I continue. Don't think I would have got through it all without your excellent videos, so thanks for the help mate. Got an EGR Dust Defence Kit on order, as well as well as some MaxPro Floor Liners.

A great mod for a great vehicle. Can’t wait to get this and the tailgate assist installed when my MY21XT arrives. The after-market market would suffer if all these extras were added from factory and the new DMax range certainly have a lot of inclusions, but a proper fully automatic central locking system should be standard. Great vid, too 👍🏻

When putting the original lock metal parts together, push the actuator into the metal part as far as you can get it. If it doesnt go in far enough it wont lock properly. With the rear tailgate liner, once you have unscrewed the four screws just unhook the right or left tailgate bar and slide it out rather than trying to fight with the rubber seal. Prevents damaging the seal. As far as the grommet goes in the firewall, I would not pop it out, just cut a slot in it to get the loom head through and seal it with silicone at the end. It is impossible to get the grommet back on particularly with large hands. I have been going at it for an hour and a half and am giving up on it for the moment. I have no idea how I'm going to get it back on.

Great video, straight to the point with no useless information. I would like to see a vid on tailgate seals as there seems to be a few different universal and model specific kits about and it's hard to tell which one to buy without trying them. I've ordered the Trac folding mirror module which I think should also be included standard for a top spec X-Terrain. A lot of the extras people on here are asking for seems to be standard on overseas models. I've added gas bonnet struts to mine, but they are a custom made setup I designed and made and not like the ones on Ebay that run along the sides of the engine bay. Mine sit right at the back near the hinges so the engine bay is completely clear of obstructions with the bonnet up, best mod i've done so far. The standard bonnet stay is a joke on a 2021 vehicle and a pet hate of mine being a mechanic, as they always seem to be in the way when working on the engine.

I have a question - can you still use your car key to physically lock the tailgate even if you have successfully installed the tailgate central locking? For my situation, I can use the remote key to lock all car doors including the tailgate but i cannot use my car key to lock the tailgate (although i can use my car key to lock the driverside door).

Hey Adam, just finished the install on my new bus. Loved the easy instructions. Wanting to know what your tip is for getting the grommet back on? Pretty simple to get off but trying to feed it back onto the plastic thing is proving a bit challenging. Even took it to my local Isuzu dealership and they couldn’t get it back on.

  • @tylerjones3875

Did just finish getting the grommet back on. Ended up pushing the white plastic off the firewall and putting (most of) the grommet back on that way. Still required a very skilful left handed approach and LOTS of time. 100% would NOT recommend pulling that grommet off. A HUGE pain in the arse. And I ended up siliconing the last 1/4 I couldn’t get back on.

Hey mate thanks for the reminder. Yes, an absolute PITA. Had another crack just now.. turns out the white plastic bracket can come out, twist it 180 and you can see how it clips together. Jam a flat head in there and it clips apart for removal. I spent a good hour (maybe I'm just slow haha) on it and can't for the life of me work out how it is mean to be assembled. The bracket to me is obviously mean to clip on somehow after to loom would be fed through in factory assembly but buggers me how. The upside is it's dead easy without the white plastic bracket to just push the rubber grommet into the firewall hole (you know, like every-other-firewall-grommet-in-the-world!) so it seals up. Have left the white bracket out for the moment until I can build up the patience to give it another go. At least it's sealed I figure!

@@VideoShowMeHow haha should’ve warned you not to take it off again. It’s honestly one of the worst grommets I’ve dealt with. Every other grommet just pops right back in as you said, but nope, not this one. A lot of patience and luck got mine mostly back to factory. Might have to take off the plastic housing if my rush job doesn’t hold up. Thanks for revisiting the pain with me though 😂 Hope you can get it back together again!

Better without your device, if you give key fob to repairman person or anyone else, they can open your tailgate, because you gave them your key fob. Before, you could have locked your tailgate, because you kept key, and repair person had key fob (to start car and work on it).
