MRT Canopy Remote Central Locking Install | No more keys!

MRT Central Locking Kit: bit.ly/3vKZ1a1
Woohoo, the canopy finally gets central locking! This is an upgrade I've been wanting to do for a long time, so today we find out what comes in MRT's central locking conversion kits, and what's involved in getting it all installed. Over the next month or so I'll be testing it out properly and will check back in with how it fares after some real-world use. Long term review:bit.ly/3gL4RT2

    Very well detailed, Daniel....looks like a winner. I'm sick of having to run around locking and unlocking 6 locks. Central locking for my MRT canopy has gotta be on the cards.

    I just watched the 6 month review, so im back to watch the install. The editing, camera work and instructions in this was great! I'll have to hit up MRT at some point.

    Good job 👍 Stuff like the holes not lining up does my head in....I don’t think it was so much that your canopy is old, I think that’s more the joys with Chinese manufacturing. They just don’t have good quality control when they’re making them to a price 😟 great video though champ 😉👍

    Awesome vid as always. Definitely going to be investing in the central locking setup. Have you ever though about raptor coating your canopy?

  • @explorebound

    @explorebound

    Hey mate, sure have! I think black would offset the white quite nicely and raptor seems to be an easy to apply and hard wearing option 👍

    Great video. Your videography and presentation style is seek adventure esk. Such an easy watch. Could one just use a battery in the canopy to activate the locks, as opposed to hacking up the canopy with a grinder lol.

    Thanks mate, really appreciate that! Yep you could definitely power the locks with a battery, I just decided to cut the slot to demonstrate how to install the included power inlet, and also because I need power running in to charge my battery anyway, and I prefer the new inlet to my old connector because it fits flush. (I re-wired the power inlet shortly after this video so that the main purpose of the inlet is to run thick gauge wiring through to my DCDC charger inside the canopy, the central locking system is then tapped in to that).

    What happeneds to the locks when you have the canopy locked and remove the power from the canopy? The looks of the mechanism looks to be a 12v solenoid that requires constant power to lock? If so what would the battery draw on 6 x 12v solenoids to keep the canopy locked

  • @explorebound

    Hey mate, just ducked out to the garage to give that a test for you. Tested unplugging the power with the canopy locked and unlocked, there was no change either time when I removed the power. 👍

    Hi Gus, I bought the canopy from MRT and had it fitted by their team here in Perth. I would definitely recommend it, I've had it for just over 2 years now and have done a lot of trips with it - can't fault it! I actually did a full review of it if you're interested: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4qGrqeairWtqdo.html

    Couldn't you just run it to the power that's in your canopy? so you can still use the central locking feature when it's not hooked up to your ute?

  • @explorebound

    @explorebound

    Yeah you can, that's how I've got my current version hooked up actually. The only downside is that if your battery in the canopy goes flat you better have a spare key with you. 🤣

    Thank you for the time taken to make this video but these old T locks are terrible as they have some design flaws, the thread that rotates with the T handle is missing half it's threads and the adjustment nuts are way to thin consequently the threads stop out way to easily, the compression whale tail locks are far superior.
