Israelis in Riyadh - Why the Saudis want to Normalise? with Sami Hamdi

Join our Patreon to get access to exclusive monthly calls: / thethinkingmuslim
The so-called Abraham Accords, delivered by the Trump Administration and embraced by Biden, has solidified Israel’s position in the Middle East. To date, normalisation has been enthusiastically embraced by the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco. But the United States knows that the ‘prize’ is Saudi Arabia. In recent weeks the mood music has been positive for Americans. It is suggested a deal may be concluded very soon, with the de-facto Saudi leader Muhammad Bin Salman holding out for concessions before he signs on the dotted line.
Our guest this week is Sami Hamdi, the Managing Director of the International Interest, a global risk and intelligence company. He advises governments on the geopolitical dynamics of Europe and the MENA region and has significant expertise in advising companies on commercial issues related to volatile political regions. Sami is also featured as a commentator for Al Jazeera (Arabic and English), Sky News, BBC and TRT World.

The weakness and division of the Muslim world is just disgusting. The Saudis and Iranians should engage each other to resolve disputes and security problems. Iran should make genuine efforts to stop antagonising the Saudis. The Saudis instead of a spending spree on Raves and football should improve education and invest in scientific development.

*Atheists claim that they are intellectually superior to religious people because they are willing to question their beliefs, whereas religious people are dogmatic and refuse to question their deepest beliefs and won't consider evidence that could potentially undermine those beliefs.* Well, have you ever heard an atheist say: "I wonder if constantly increasing individual freedom is a good thing." "I was wrong about democracy being a viable system." "Maybe the sexual revolution was a mistake." "The evidence shows that equality of the sexes is destructive." "Let's have a debate on if freedom of speech and religion is good for society." "Could it be that women need fewer rights?" I have never seen an atheist raise these questions or hold these positions up to serious scrutiny. Nor do they provide any evidence for their beliefs on these matters. They simply assert them and ridicule and mock anyone who disagrees with them.

Allah did not ask the Romans, Persian, or Arabs for permission to establish Islam. Rasul Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam did not ask permission from the Romans, Persians or Arabs to establish a state in medina. The companions may Allah be pleased with them, did not ask permission to establish and maintain the Khilafah. Rather, regardless of what was going on around them, the believers established Islam and changed the world, not change themselves to fit in with the world. It's all political theatre. Brother is a great political commentator, but lacks understanding of monetary history and who really controls the show. He's commenting on the actions and reactions of puppets who the masses think are the masters of the show. They all have a master. Once you've internalized this, politics become clear: It's a distraction and its aim is to divide one another and keep us arguing with one another while the puppet masters work towards achieving their goals. They mention deen and make reference to the importance of at least having a basic understanding of what is happening around the world. I don't disagree with this point. But take all of it with grain of salt. Politics is meant to deceive. Stick to the Qur'aan and sunnah. Make duaa for ourselves and one another and work on ourselves until we become the change that we want to see in the world.

Despite the Koran's prohibition, Jews were forced to convert to Islam or face death in Yemen (1165 and 1678), Morocco (1275, 1465 and 1790-92) and Baghdad (1333 and 1344)… What will happen if these Muslims have the power of Israel power today??? They still have memories of what happened to.their encestor in Arab countries..

As a Muslim, I bow to no man. All movements, which change the trajectory of the world and turn its order upside down are engendered from a series of ignoble oppressive acts. The last of which is so offensive to Allah (SWT), He inspires a small number of his most humble, uncompromising, and faithful vicegerents on earth to rise up against the earthly principalities oppressing the Ummah, and making evil fair-seeming to humanity. Normalization of relations between Israhell and the KSA will be the event to cause Allah (SWT) to call His humble uncompromising servants to lead the Ummah against those oppressive, hypocritical, and perverted principalities. Principalities who have secreted and placed their puppets in high level positions within the Ummah to facilitate the total destruction of Ummah. Allah (SWT) will not allow that to happen. Who is the best planner and lord of the worlds?

I get the verse 5:51. But it's not like the Abraham accords are the first relationship established between Muslims and the Jews. After the creation of Israel, plenty of other Muslim nations established diplomatic relations. So why focus on the Abraham accords in particular ? It's not like the ayah talks about the nation of Israel in specific. Prior to Aliyah, or the creation of Israel, there were plenty of times Muslims and Jews were allies. In Islamic Andalusia and Cordoba to be precise. In fact, Jewish philosopher Maimonides, who is often considered the father of modern Judaism, was the personal physician of Salah al Din. So does the verse refer to all of those relationships or just the Abraham accords in particular ? Are you going to place Salah al Din in the same league as the spearheads of the Abraham accords ? Quran 9:97 ..you might as well read 9:99..just the verse after the next. The verse talks about the nomads around Medinah who were giving the Prophet a hard time. That is not a prophecy. Stop Cherry picking Quran verses to fulfill your own myopic views.

@@jamieammar6131 Thanks for reading and commenting, you mean QURAN 5:51 and QURAN 9:97 have been abrogated? If not , under which circumstances do they apply? @@hassandiallo5326 The concept of abrogation means when a ruling is superseded by another. Verses from 9:97 onwards are not rulings but statements. And 5:51 is a ruling. But my point was, you are paralleling the verse with the Abraham accords. But my point is, there were plenty of times when Muslims and jews were 'friends'. Al Wala al Bara concept means not to mistreat the 'dhimmis'. But Muslims are jews were 'good' friends over the history. But setting aside Jews under Muslim rule. There were plenty of times in history where Muslim empires allied with the Christian ones. Now if you say those were strategic..Abraham accords are pretty much strategic as well. Should all the Muslim nations in the world severe ties with the Vatican and the Red Cross and all the Christian nations ? I didn't include 9:98 because it's just a continuation of 9:97..there's no point. All these verses pretty much talk about bedouins of Medinah of that time, not bedouins of now. In the same same chapter, 29th verse..it says to fight the non believers until they accept Islam or pay Jizya. So, are you gonna fight ? Are you gonna justify the way of ISIS who also use verses like you are doing now ? Or are you going to focus on the tafsir of said verse and understand it a bit more ?

People keep talking about how Shahid Bolsen 'destroyed' Sami in his last interview. How his (Shahid's) ideas are great, etc. No doubt, Shahid's ideas are some of the most logical and practical but they lack the single most important ingredient: adhering to the shari'ah. If I'm not mistaken (and correct me if I'm wrong), but his opinion of the 'developments' currently on the way in Saudi Arabia is that the ends justify the means (I'm just paraphrasing). As Muslims, we (should) completely reject that mindset. The means must NEVER go against the Qur'an and Sunnah. Otherwise, the benefits will only be short term -- if at all. Shadid is a truly gifted speaker, but his greatest flaw, at least when it comes to matters of the Deen, is he tends to compromise in areas that should never be compromised. There is no commiting haram to eventually get a presumably 'halal' outcome.

I think I agree in part that there shouldn't be a blanket acceptance of any means to an end, despite the best of intentions, as there is no guarantee that the positive means will even be reached through compromises along the way. But in the same video you had paraphrased, he does assert that a different strategy is required than the status quo of continued disunity, animosity, and scapegoating. For example, the public outcry of the plight of the Uyghur have not affected diplomacy or economic ties between China and 'Islamic' countries. Asserting force through hard power simply isn't an option for Muslim majority countries at the moment. The war in Ukraine seems to demonstrate that soft power and economic power plays are more convincing than claiming to be the most 'righteous'. Not to mention hostility toward Israel is precisely what they want to justify their subjugation of Muslims.

@TheThinkingMuslim you can fool people but the truth is visible!! There is no such a thing as Palestine, in Quran!.. On December 30, 1066, Joseph HaNagid, the Jewish vizier of Granada, Spain, was crucified by an Arab mob that proceeded to raze the Jewish quarter of the city and slaughter its 5,000 inhabitants. The riot was incited by Muslim preachers who had angrily objected to what they saw as inordinate Jewish political power.. -Similarly, in 1465, Arab mobs in Fez slaughtered thousands of Jews, leaving only 11 alive, after a Jewish deputy vizier treated a Muslim woman in an offensive manner. The killings touched off a wave of similar massacres throughout Morocco… -Other mass murders of Jews in Arab lands occurred in Morocco in the 8th century, where whole communities were wiped out by Muslim ruler Idris I; North Africa in the 12th century, where the Almohads either forcibly converted or decimated several communities; Libya in 1785, where Ali Burzi Pasha murdered hundreds of Jews; Algiers, where Jews were massacred in 1805, 1815 and 1830 and Marrakesh, Morocco, where more than 300 hundred Jews were murdered between 1864 and 1880… To close: A Decrees ordering the destruction of synagogues were enacted in Egypt and Syria (1014, 1293-4, 1301-2), Iraq (854-859, 1344) and Yemen (1676).
