I despair at what Israel does. Lebanon is already suffering. How can Israel expect to ever have a peaceful existence if they permanently seek war with their neighbours? Why don't they look for peaceful ways to coexist? I am no military expert, but I can't see this delivering anything other than endless conflict. It is literally MAD.

For 8+ months tens of thousands of Israeli citizens have been displaced in their own country, homes have been being blown up, fires are raging... 2006 did create mutual deterrence, so in that sense it upped the stakes for Hezbollah with Nasrallah later saying that had he known what devastation would follow, Hezbollah would have acted differently, most probably referring to its initial cross-border raid that led to massive indiscriminate israeli response.
