There is a saying that are taught in Indonesia, "If you waste food, God will decrease your blessing" (aka God will give you less food next time in the future & give the blessing to someone else, for you are ungreatful of it's existance in front of you), this is to encourage people to take only as much as they need and eat their plate clean, accidental leftover is waste of low level sin, however destroying good food in general on purpose is not only wasteful but also a *taboo* level sin which is worse, and it seems the parents of these people never taught them this, there will come a time when their food decrease in amount at the dinner table due to circumstances as cosmic Karma, what goes around comes around.
