Israel Dagg - Attacking Crusader

Спорт

Israel Dagg recently announced his retirement, which is way too soon for someone who has his skill. He was a tremendous attacker and will be remembered for the way he could cut a defensive line to pieces. He as quick and ran straight with a brilliant swerve to beat the opposition.
He scored some amazing tries, and here are the best of them.
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

"I love how he runs like a cartoon character" Heheh. Who are you thinking of: the Road Runner or Wile Y Coyote? 12:08 I was at this game and Dagg scored in front of me. As he came galloping down the field towards where I was sitting - actually, standing by this time - he looked tired. In fact, he looked completely knackered

On attack he was amazing. A bit suspect defensively. Since I've been watching rugby (I'm 30) only Cullen and Ben Smith have been clearly better in an ABs 15 jersey. Toss up between him and Muliaina. BTW you have to do a Ben Smith vid. Legend

I'd definitely say Dagg over Muliaina. Mils was a good reliable fullback but didn't create attacks anything like Dagg did, and wasn't anything special in defense either.

Muliaina wasn’t the most flashy player but his defence was solid and he did his job well.. dagg was awesome on attack but defence wasn’t that bad imo thought it wasn’t the greatest and Cullen was just a freak of nature to this day I say he’s the greatest fullback the All Blacks ever produced

Fair enough. I agree that Dagg was an amazing creative attacking player. Injuries really robbed him of having a longer career. At his peak he was a better player than Muliaina. I just think the consistency and longevity that Muliaina counts for something. Definitely not as flashy but was always solid. I agree that Cullen is the greatest full back the ABs have ever produced. I didn't get to see much of his peak career but just from the highlights it's obvious he was special. I reckon Ben Smith is very underrated. He almost had no weaknesses as a full back.

For those commenting on his defence, remember that his attack far outweighed his weakness there. He wasn’t great in front on tackling but high ball and positioning was world class. Also, when you have a strong defensive wing, scrum half and a flyhalf like the all blacks usually do, they had great cover in the backfield.

He had a prodigious punt as well. I couldn't believe it when every time the opposition would kick for territory they would end up kicking it to him. What did they think was going to happen?
