Most people who attend those fights are casuals who only want bloodbaths. Izzy always fights smart to not get KO'd, and Rob was too afraid to let loose and get check-hooked again. Therefore, you have two cautious fighters playing a chess game, and these people came for blood, not high level MMA.

When they advance forward, you knock them out when they keep distance, you destroy their legs. I guess because Jan marginally defeated you through take down, everyone is now investing in taking you down. You just have to find a way to be more destructive during their take down attempts. Yeah, I mean, it was razorsharp. Imo, Izzy had more output with more significant strikes in rounds 1 2 & 4. But Rob fought super solid as well. Had the takedowns but did not accomplish a lot afterwards aside from some light strikes, nice jabs that took Izzy by surprise sometimes and he had effective grappling in that one round where he took Izzy's back. To be fair, my overall feeling was 60% Izzy winning this. Though, Rob made viable changes to his game and made it a hard chess match. If it would have been a draw I wouldn't be mad. A draw would be very applicable to this specific fight and it would turn up the hype for the very potential third fight as well.

I have to say that this is a good example of respectful UFC / MMA fight from the press conference, weigh ins then the fight night. Both Izzy and Robert talked in a friendly manner, shook hands and respected each other as MMA opponents. Non of the trash talking. Also what a fight, super close result. I think the first round was the clearest round to Izzy, Robert did really well and got some good rounds in after and managed his time and energy. UFC 271 was all about the Aussies and Kiwis.

rob won this lmao ya'll think cause izzys champion you love to just suck his nuts bro omg💀 then you want call people casuals when you d-ride the champions of every division especially izzy, you call them casuals when you know your fighter had a difficult or semi difficult time or a close fight we've reached a point where a dominant chammpion is continuously dominant and when they're in a closr fight or is losing ya'll hate to admit it and especially cause they're champion and then call people casuals whittaker landed shots and took him down several times and before you say he did nothing with the takedown...it's still a takedown and having people on the cage and holding them is control time...which rob is given and besides that control time be striked well with israel and that's how rob won the rounds in my eyes i can see why rob thought he won 2-5 i thought it was 2,4,5 and debateably 3 as well.ADESANYA literally did nothing lmao he just threw leg kicks and jabbed here and there while rob did more and the control time and the striking made up for everything rather than leg kicks izzy took round 1 and dont even speal about bisping bro jesus christ💀 bro was sucking izzys nutsack,in what world was this 10-9 all 5 rounds and was always saying rob should throw the right hand and at least dc the more knowledgeable fighter knows if he did that he'd be open and get caught just like last time they fought, bisping should just shut the fuck up sometimes bro jesus christ BRO ADESANYA DID NOTHING lmaooo he threw leg kicks here and there with SOME jabs and then rob striked evenly with him and mixed in shit AND HAD 3:40 CONTROL TIME and the striking percentages were even LMAO what are you all on about it was 46%-43% with rob landing MORE TO THE HEAD izzy had 79 of 169 and rob 59 of 136 those are evenly equal if you do the maths and more of robs strikes were head strikes izzy threw leg kicks here and there AND SOME jabs and rob had a higher percentage to the head and people are saying he outstruck him when it's 46%-43% which is barely anything it was deadass equal and rob had takedowns and control time people forget control time is holding them against the cage as well bisping sucked izzys nuts during this commentary and rob won get your facts straight about him being "outstruck"

For a long time. We kept hearing about how this version of Rob was "the one". About how Rob would hold him down and out wrestle him at every turn about all these improvements. How much sharper Rob is now. That wasn't the case during this fight at all... I've been watching Israel fight for ages and he's improved so much more than Rob, Costa, Marvin and Brunson others. He didn't come out with anything new. Same double jab, same entry steal sidekick, same entry and exits. Same motions. Same counter ideas. Same inaccuracies and same choices with respect to shot application. Rob has not changed anywhere near as much as was advertised and it showed. To me. He fought scared in the first round and literally almost got put out. Israel has reached the point now where its a victory to go more than 3 rounds with him, it's a victory to "not get knocked out this time". That speaks much more about how good he's become than anything anyone else could bring. It was a good fight. There were numerous points, especially regarding Israels instincts where he could have gone towards setting up a finish. I train and fight too. Have for 16 yrs. A few things were different I liked his kicking. His chaining and bridging. Was feeling the footwork too. Rob is a good fighter don't get me wrong. But he won't be Champ again while Izzy is there. Knowing this will help both of them.

Before this fight: "Rob's wrestling is better, he's a national champ, Jan was able to do it!" After this fight: " Izzy's too big, Rob came up from WW" But y'know what? I'll take those guys over the idiots who think Rob's takedowns merited winning rounds. He held him down for seconds at a time, because the champ immediately scrambled to the fence and to his feet. His "total control time" was all holding Izzy against the fence, and I don't think anyone's won a round against Izzy by clinching with him against the fence.

Controversial opinion. I think Izzy's respect for his coaches holds him back. He's mentioned quite a few times now that he felt the instinct/desire to go at someone, get more aggressive, and he's corner held him back. I think he should trust his instincts more.

Go for it just so you can get knockout dont think so sometimes your instincts can lead you into obvious traps this is not some kind of street fight these are trained opponents and once you follow your instincts you bound to get your ass beat.

@@NevilleHanabeb it's a double edged sword obviously taking risks in the pocket can be huge or can be dangerous. I'd be happy for him to fight with instinct at points but not against people like whittaker who come in game planned to capitalize on openings. He fought how he had to can't blame the guy

Love to see izzy man. Calm, cool and collected. Just worried in the past 2 fights each opponent has managed to take his back in very compromising positions although the said he was never threatened, if someone has the jiu jitsu background that choke is the easiest thing for them. Love to see the last style bender doing his reviews. Keep working the ground like he has and just getting better and better. Get that LHW strap. 5th title defence in the bag.

These MW boys talk but once they are in there locked wiyn him they realise is a different ball game to this strength shit . @@bernardlartims9114 You aren’t wrong at all izzy shows better and better take down defence and ring awareness when the take downs come in every time he steps in the octagon but if you think it isn’t concerning 3/4 fighters have managed to take his back and just because that choke hasnt been locked in there isn’t a high chance everyone is seeing this and thinking the same. I think he is unbeatable at 185 but when he steps up to 205 again he needs to put 6 months in to gain that size and strength to deal with the big boys and get the lhw strap.

I find it weird when people say izzy lost ... whittaker wasnt rushing and was playing it safe imo,, he seemed to be more scared and forgot about his belt in the octagon. Which to me suggests that izzy won the mental battle as well as the fight. But thats just my opinion. Good job izzy!! Big fan of you keep it up!

@nøc but thats why i mentionned that whittaker is the one seeking the belt. Izzy has done his work through the division to get his belt, if anybody else wants it then go for it, dont expect the champ to do the work for you and rush for you. Thats the challenger's job in my opinion. You know what i mean?

Its kind of like someone taking ur lunch money, if you could beat their ass you would right? Well the belt is the lunch money and whittaker was scared to get his lunch money back and didnt beat his ass. My best comparison ever hahaha

There's sadly a bit of recency bias with how people judge fights. Rob got smoked in their last encounter, so compared to that, this looks like a victory. Similarly, if this fight had come after Izzy somehow got dominated by Rob on the ground, the narrative of this fight would probably be how great Izzy's grappling defense had become. The only problem is that Izzy is basically improving too fast for us to fully recognize 😄
