Isle of Skye Trail - 7 Days, 80 Miles - Wild Camping Scotland
The full Skye trail in one video, south to north. 80 miles backpacking and wild camping the Isle of Skye, Scotland in a Lanshan. I undertook this thru-hike starting at Broadford and made a vlog of the entire trip. I wild camped at Boreraig on night one having started pretty late at 6pm.
The second day I hiked through Suisnish and past Loch Slapin to Torrin where I found Mrs Mack's food van for a bacon and egg roll. I turned right at Kilmarie, over the top and wild camped at Camasunary next to Bla Bheinn.
Next morning I walked around the coast past the bad step at Loch nan Leachd, then to Loch Corusik where I spotted a person camping using their aeroplane! I headed over the mountain pass and up the River Sligachan past Marsco and Sgurr Nan Gillean at stopped at Seumas' Bar for a beer and a burger. I then and camped right next to Loch Sligachan as the campsite was closed.
On the fourth day was a long road walk on the B883 towards Portree where I was glad to put my head down for the night in a real bed at Tongadale hotel!
After that was a hike over the mountain ridge towards Bearreraig and I was lucky enough to set up my tent right next to the old man of storr.
The Trotternish ridge on day 6 was presented the biggest challenge and it was also the roughest day with extreme winds and mist covering the peaks. I climbed Beinn Edra and Hartaval that day amongst many other peaks. I then hiked through the Quirang, but had to carry on through until I found a water supply in the valley beyond.
For the final day of walking I headed down the hillside towards Kilmaluag bay and my final desination for the night was "The Lookout" bothy at Rubha Hunish.
I officially finished up next morning at the red phone box a mile away.

love the quip about keeping something out / in (fences) a delightful place to visit/stay. So where is your 4 legged friend this time? - midgee's galore & no insect repellant?? Wonderful exploration of the the Hillsides & Loch's, encountering cows & I found your tale of a poor guy getting trampled, so sad, there is a moral somewhere in that tale. Having buildings available to stay is definite a Plus for travellers. Nice big & clean. You Saying, 'down there where I came from' my dear father-in-law would say hubby's dad & I love the accent. I wouldn't say the water is any less fresh in Skye than anywhere else. I treated it myself with chlorine tabs or boiled 🤟
Great video! And thank you for sharing. What time of the year was this? Just starting to plan a trip for next June mostly by train and by foot around Scotland (coming from the US), hoping to save money by mostly camping, occasionally staying in hostels or even a bed-and-breakfast here and there. Would love to avoid the midges, but will have to go when I have time to go, which is mid June. Also, Is it possible to take a train from Glasgow to the Isle of Skye, or would I need to stop before the Isle of Skye and get a ride by car the rest of the way? I would imagine you have to go onto the island by car. Just don’t want to have to rent a car because we want to just be able to backpack to wherever we want to stop each time and then hitch a ride back to the train station or wherever we got dropped off after getting a ride from the nearest train station. :-) but if needs be, I’ll just rent a car and do backpacking loops back to the car each time. Thanks for any help or advice you can give me on this! Fellow KZread hikers are usually the best helpers!
@MrWildWales
2 жыл бұрын
Hi there thanks for watching this was hiked in August. I think midges are unavoidable there just make sure you've got some sprays and mesh to hide behind! The train you need to take gets you as far as Kyle of Lochalsh which is just over the bridge to Skye. There are buses to take you onto the island and they circulate it pretty often you won't need a car. The hotels tend to be pretty expensive so camping is definitely preferred (and allowed) trying to stay away from the main tourist areas.

It’s been a long time (2010) since I had to plan international transportation, but I’m so looking forward to seeing Scotland again, the land of my ancestors. It’s good news that we won’t need a car, perhaps we will be able to do what I hoped, and just take trains and buses everywhere and then walk from stations to anywhere else we want to go. @@MrWildWales that’s a lot cheaper than I thought prefer spending £350 on that then going to a holiday camp site you know the type I always get the site with the muppets on it lol

Tnhk you sir
Firstly congrats for completing the trail bud & hope you enjoyed those well deserved beers in Inverness. Really enjoyed watching this & definitely added skye to my list.
