Bushcraft, exploring, wild camping, shelter builds and hiking outdoors around Wales.
I camp out in a tent or tarp at mountain streams or woodland, cook gourmet food and do some wild swimming. It usually involves lighting a fire, gourmet food and a few craft beers, wine or whiskey to wash it down. I enjoy checking out ancient ruins and wrecks around the countryside and finding out the history. My usual wild camping spots are in the Brecon Beacons or Snowdonia.
You may see me backpacking or doing thru-hikes on trails.

Excellent, now that's what I was talking about 👍😁 Good work buddy! Filters have a use by life, has the Lifestraw passed its best?
What tent was it @2:50 I could not see it BUT i want one :)
Here you go bud! amzn.to/3LLD4lA
Sweet music.
Nice one mate looked a great wee camp spot with the lads 👌, keep up the great work. Atb Wullie ✊🏻🏴
You should have bought the Iceland Quarter Pounders, 100% beef! 🐄
I'll have a go of those. I shouldn't have expected much at £1 for 4 🤣
The meter tests for bacteria, virus, nitrite, TDS, micro plastic and heavy metals. It shows exactly how much of each is in there and gives an overall percentage rating.
The Grayl is a purifier while the others are only filters. Big difference. That’s why the results were so different. See the water purification video series from GearSkeptic. Also, what is the meter specifically testing?

Nice test and incredible results by the Grayl. Anyone know what sort of lifespan you get out of the filter in that? I have a HydraMate I've yet to use, be curious what results that one gets
I was really surprised at that! I think my friend says a filter lasts 250 uses before it needs replacing
Think I seen u all on ur way did you walk through Craig cerrig glesiad with a speaker attached to one of ur back packs playing music
Nah we don't walk with music! You'll probably bump into us at some point though ☺️
Nice adventure. Great camp setup and the food looks really good too 😊😊😊 This is the good life 😊
It was a really good night chatting about all sorts with the boys! Thanks for watching and commenting
I have the katadin it works ok😊
👌😀
Very good👌 I like this butty👏👏👍
Awesome test, would be interesting to see the "pure clear" tested like this. I have the grayl and the pureclear, apparently they use the same filter technology. Surprising results for thelifestraw, would it be better to get the later lifestraw as you can connect it to a bottle to avoid any flow by of contaminated water into your steel mug.
Thanks pal I will look into the pureclear as well. It's possible some water contaminated the lifestraws result but the majority of it went through so I was expecting some sort of improvement
Welcome to the band wagon
I haven't seen anyone else doing this 🤔
@@MrWildWales I did a 365 day grayl review the other day and there's a mate of mine doing a test on a very affordable Amazon version today . I love the grayl .. it's changed my entire hiking world .
Oh I see! I couldn't believe the results it gave, that thing is incredible!
@@MrWildWales Drop in some day. S good community from Wales and UK
Katodyn's hiker would be great against the Sawyer mini would be great buddy! Any of the Katodyn pump ones would be good and interesting to see it put through it's paces. Ive a feeling the Lifesaver Jerrycan or the cube would come out on top there. Be interesting to see maybe these up against maybe the GRAYL
I'll see what I can get hold of! Cheers for the suggestions
@@MrWildWales Thank you for the video...not enough independent videos with tests like this and especially here in the UK. Best wishes buddy
Water drop filter if you can please. Definitely investing in that Grayl filter, nice one. 🖖🏕️
I've got a feeling my friends got the water drop! Yes I defo want one of those now myself
What is the difference between qidian and qidian pro?
Higher quality material and weight is lighter
@@MrWildWales Is the main compartment capacity/ volume the same?
@siwywarszawka I'm not sure but probably
Evening mi mate... Sounds like a very good idea.. Nice one.
Cheers pal it's a cracker I think
Love it, bought it as my first wildcamping tent, liked it more than the 1p coffins we all see. Had mine for 5years now and still use it as my solo camping tent.
Much better with a tent you can sit up in glad it's served you well 👊
Hi, just got myself one of these, love it, looks great. BUT. The top of the chain is touching the tyre when in gear 1, is this normal. All Engwe tell me is to adjust the derailleur, that is not going to work. In fact the rear wheel is not even in the centre of the frame hence too clos to the chain. Did you find this with yours?
No mine doesn't do that. Check the wheel to see if there's a wobble left and right it might need reseating.
That's a trip it uses a tiny 100mAh 10180 battery. That's like half the size of a AAA battery. Interesting there's a 4000K version.
The battery is miniscule but it still works for a few hours on low
Great perfect really but I'm looking for one with a hat clip
Hat clip would be ideal I've only seen bigger torches with that
@@MrWildWales yes me too type c too no Idea why they don't have a clip 👍👍👍
Nice as a backup 💪
That's true I might keep it on my pouch zip
Got 1 on order they look awesome 👌 thanks for the review never fancied a smart watch but its perfect for trekking and camping and looks cool for a everyday watch....
I've found it brilliant mate think you will like it 👌
Dare I ask which bothy this is?
The bothy name was shown in the video for the eagle eyed 😉 Sorry I can't say its secret otherwise 😆
Looks decent. Been considering finally giving in and getting a smartwatch for the first time. Don’t want all the call and phone stuff though. Just the fitness, heart rate and sleep etc. Can you use all that without getting calls and stuff on it?
Ah, just covered it at the end. Ha. Shame. Gotta be able to turn that off
You can turn the vibration/notifications off on the watch app but I wish it would go off automatically when my phone is on silent
That baffle would make a difference.I might buy the 3 season one that is rated down to 0c.I have camped out in -8 once in a Summer sleeping bag I think rated down to 10c better than nothing but you feel the cold!
It really does, you cinch that and you can feel the difference. Damned good bag
Hey do you think this setup with a tarp will work in the mountains for Tour Du Mont Blanc during September? Also, how durable is the tyvek? And can one's body breathe in it?
I don't know what the temperature is like but it cuts out drafts well and adds a few degrees of comfort. Goretex is better for breathability but this is a lighter and cheaper option
@@MrWildWales for goretex, I have also been reluctant because I saw some videos saying goretex is only breathable when humidity is low (which seems to sort of defy the purpose). I read temperatures at Mont Blanc will be warm during the days and are likely to drop to 10 degrees at night while in lower sections and valleys and once we get up higher possibly down to around 0 celcius at night or just below at the max. I fancy carrying a light setup and see if I can trap some heat. Strangely, I pretty much have the same exact equipment you have in this video and I'd wear thermals and Patagonia Micro Puff jacket but I have no prior experience with the mountains.
@hooptroopers I'd give it a go first for a one nighter see how you get on. Just take extra clothing to make sure for the first time and you will know where you stand 👍
@@MrWildWales perfect, I'm stoked to give it a try! Thank you for the advice on this ultralight setup! Cheers
More SMART CONTROL for the slaves...when are you all going to wake up to their agenda of total control.

What's the gps like on it..? Can it be used offline ?.
It does have GPS which you can get to through the workout setting. I will have to investigate it more next time I'm out
What happened about your mates that fcked off and left you.😂😂😂
I took his tent back to him yesterday! Too many drinks were to blame I think
I have the Opalus 3, in which I have just spent a fortnight, its size, porch and relative lightweight is what made me buy it and those are all positive. However, the flysheet does collect masses of condensation and whilst this doesn't come through to the inner tent and problem arises when you are packing up, when despite giving as much ventilation as possible and leaving it a couple of hours with both doors open the tent is still very wet on a warm sunny morning.
Thanks for the info mate. I've stopped worrying about condensation really but I can imagine it's harder to air out with the shape of it. My tents all just get shaked off and hung up to dry as soon as I get home
Out of interest, who took Ed's stuff home? or we're they just left there?
Go up there and get yourself an expensive tent for free 😂 I took his tent which I then reviewed! Gave it back to him today.
Two of us bailed early for reasons which cannot be named 😆 I think it was mainly due to the Jack Daniels...
You guys must be weird mates. 1 leaves without saying anything during a camp, and then you pack up and leave before your other mate wakes up.
Sometimes you gotta do what you got do for reasons you can't go into
@@MrWildWales I get that mate, hope you're all fine.
Looked like a great lads camp 🏕 i hope your mate is ok ? I saw you in Tescos buddy but you looked to busy to talk 😢 looking forward to the next video 👍🏻🏕
I always look like I'm in a rush but never mind saying hello ☺️ Yeah my mate is ok going to go meet him later
Interesting watch 😮😮😮
Nice one man
good we video mate great location, something definitely got to you lol must have been the burgers haha, keep up the good work. Atb Wullie.
Dodgy burgers for sure 😆 or maybe it was the Jack Daniels 🤣
Not all bad you and poppy looked well happy with the burgers 🍔 😊🏕️🔥
The burgers were banging and we still had a good laugh
Give us an update mate, what happened 😂? Looked like a jolly boys outing and the mushies sent you west. Went all Blair Witch towards the end there 😂😂😂
Must have been something dodgy in those burgers 🤣 Think we just had a few too many bevvies to be honest!
It happens Adam 😂😂🇮🇪
😁👍
How odd!
Nice looking tent with some good features, and especially like the drawstring stuff sack. I had a Vango Scafell which it looks to be an upgrade of, just the tunnel tent I found painful getting in and out of having a bad back!
Yeah that's the only thing with front entry tents a little harder to get in and out
You may have sold me on this. I've got a zenith 200 which ive used for 8 years now but i'd like a little more headroom. I actually have the Vango Meteor Pro 300 too which is the same style of tent, just the 3 man version which I bought to use with the mrs and it's absolutely brilliant. It's the price i've been hesitant about but i should probably just go for it given I have got 8 years from my trusty zenith 200 haha.
You get what you pay for normally. Brilliant your zenith has done well all that time though 👍
I really like mine. If you get the angles right the wind just slides over the top. You can tighten the TBS at the front by sliding the knots down (sorry if you've already figured that out).
No I didn't work out the tensioning cheers for that 😊🙌
I left my rucksack at the campsite that morning! Mike came to the rescue and retrieved it later that day and luckily it was still there with another guy pitching in the same spot.
Shout to you and yours.
👍👍
How many zips on the front door ? Please
Just one which opens from bottom and top
