Island Silver! Metal Detecting an Old House Site on the River

Come join my dad and me for some metal detecting on the river back in the Midwest. The river is especially low this year, so it was a good time to try detecting some areas that are usually underwater. We headed out a few times and were fortunate enough to find old silver coins! I hope you enjoy the video, and if you have any idea what either of the two mystery objects are (one looks like a big salt shaker cap and the other like a coiled spring), please let me know in the comments. Thanks for watching and take care!
I was running my usual settings on the Teknetics Patriot:
DISC LEVEL: 18
SPEED: dE
SENSITIVITY: 69
THRESHOLD: -1
OF TONES: 1F
Dad was using a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV:
SENSITIVITY: 3 o'clock
DISC/NOTCH: 3 o'clock
MODE: TONE
And just FYI, my watch at the end is a Seiko SNKL43 on a NATO strap from Crown & Buckle.

Thank you! I just checked out your channel. Metal detecting and fishing? Count me in! I just subscribed. I would love to metal detect out there on the east coast someday; lots of potential for finding really old coins and other relics. Take care.

5:15 could it be part of an old thermostat? It looks like it could be a coiled bimetal strip.

@@gus473 Haha, I guess our three great minds must think alike! When I was putting together the video I edited out the last part of that clip in which I said, "It looks like maybe it's from a thermostat." My dad was thinking it might be a spring from a clock. Who knows? Either way, it's always fun to find mystery objects and try to determine what they are.

Hey Theodore good to hear from you again! And I didn't clarify it in the video, but we were recently back in the Midwest to visit my family there--this is actually the Mississippi River. But now that you mention it, I wonder how metal detecting on the lower Columbia might be. Hmm... Anyhow, I hope all is well in your world! 😊

@@WesternEclectic My first guess was Tilamook Bay, at the old BayOcean Resort, which is now a public park after the last house washed away in 1947. But you can drive there ever since they put in the dike to keep the rest from washing away.
